Hi,

I have just added chlorine to my pool and the floor of the pool has turned black. The chlorine that I used has an active ingredient of Calcium Hypochlorite 650g/kg.

I have tested the PH and found it to be a little low, requiring some alkali to be added. Will raising the PH solve my problem.

I do not have any water test results for metals etc.

Can anybody help me. Please

The chlorine may have oxidized ferrous iron to ferric iron and produced black iron oxides (though usually they are reddish-black). Was the water from a well? If so, it may have had high iron content. Usually there is more metal staining when the pH is higher, but if you had a lot of metals in the water then staining can occur even at lower pH.
