Hot Tub Heat Exchanger And Alkalinity

HI All,

I recently replaced my hot tub's heat exchanger and 60 days later it is leaking. The pool guy said it was from the hot tub's alkalinity being too low therefore the part would not be under warranty. How long would the low alkalinity of the hot tub take to damage the heat exchanger?

Thank You!!

10 would generally be too low, most especially if the pH were to drop say by use of acidic source of disinfection such as Dichlor (or Trichlor, but that's not normally used in spas), non-chlorine shock (MPS) or bromine tabs.
