Flock My Pool! Question On Flocking.

Recommended Posts

2 days ago I used flock to turn my swamp pool clear. It worked perfectly, however I had to take out tons of leaves from the bottom stirring up the mess and making the pool awful again. My question is:

Will I need to flock again or will this stuff settle down to the bottom a second time? Flock ain't cheap!

You normally remove physical material first when clearing a pool. If you have to use a product for this purpose, then ProTeam® System Support is a product that will help lift debris. After physically removing debris, filtration is usually enough to clear a pool, though you may need to add DE to your sand filter to get the finer particles removed. Flock or clarifier is not normally needed and as you noted it is expensive, though it can be faster.

Here's the backstory.

The pool was so green that I simply couldn't see the bottom well enough to remove the leaves. It had turned to a swamp from neglect so I had to do what I could.

I have a DE filter and it's a serious pain when a pool is this dirty. You literally have to take three days off to just babysit it.

Bleach (or other form of unstabilized chlorine such as cal hypo) would have cleared the green allowing you to see the debris on the bottom. So would the Proteam system support. Floc (correct spelling, short for flocculant) is usually not needed unless there is finely suspended particulate matter that will not flter out clouding the water. You can try turning off the pump and letting the pool sit for 24-48 hours to see if everything settles again so you can vacuum to waste but if not post back here so we can advise you on your next step.
