slxspa Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I bought a used (approx 4 year old) hot springs "hot spot" slx tub (115volt) and got it home yesterday. Filled it up and plugged it in at around 9pm. 12 hours later it is only at 74 degrees according to my infrared thermometer. The manual says that it should reach 102 degrees in 18-24 hours but I am sort of worried that it is not going to heat up. Should I just be patient? Quote

Yes be patient, and if you can or want a quicker heat up time and that tub is convertable, switch it to 220v it will heat twice as fast. What is it like 5-7 degrees per hour for 220V (depending on the heater KW) versus 2-3 for a 110V Quote

Chas Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Actually, that spa has a 1000 watt heater. If you want to convert it, you can convert it to 30Amp 110volt. Not a typo - that's 30A 110V. There is no 220 conversion for this spa. It will NOT heat any faster that way, however you can run jets and heat at the same time. It takes longer to heat this tub the first time than it will after a water change, especially if you leave the cover on while draining and filling. Quote

Hopefully by Monday night it will get up to temp and my TA & PH will be good. My wife wants to know why I spent the $500 bucks on this thing. Hopefully she will like it once it is warmed up. Quote

That's a good price. It is a simple, reliable tub. Once you get it to temperature, it will stay there. I have sold a bunch of these over the years, and they do a fine job. Enjoy. BTW - each time you open the lid to check the temperature adds at least one hour to the heating time. Quote

I did not think it would apply here I hope it is a good tub. Out of curiosity ... what did they sell for new (street price)? Quote

Chas Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Monday morning at 6am. Tub is at 100 degrees. Wahoo! If your water is balanced (pH and TA) and you have some chlorine in it, I would say its time to add people. The street price on that tub varies by area, and that model is discontinued, but I have sold them for around $3600 to $3900 plus tax, give or take. That would be with a cover and start up supplies, delivered. Quote
