Good morning,

I purchased a home a few weeks ago and have had enough time to start to get settled in. The home came with a hot tube and I've never owned one before. The person who owned the home didn't leave with me with any instructions, all he said was that it worked. I'm looking for some help on what to do to test everything on the hot tub to verify it works and get me going for the winter months. Check for leaks? Verify Heating element works? Verify Pumps work? Verify sprayers work?

I'm just looking at how to do all this stuff and anything else i might need to do to verify I have a good, working order hot tub. I suppose a manual might help give me information on all of this, but any help from anyone who's done all this before, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Pictures Below of what I have. I think the last picture is the nameplate on the tub, and it says spring Harbor acrylic spas.

since none of the experts replied yet i'll take a shot.

1) You are going to want to run a decontamination process on the tub. See the Hot Tub Chemistry section of this forum for the sticky thread on that.

2) You have to fill the tub to run the decontamination so that would be a good time to check for function. I'd fill it up, check to see the heater works correctly, and check for leaks. To check for leaks make sure when you fill it to not spill any water around it so you know if there's water it leaks. Leave it over night and see if it holds it's level. Run the jets for a while and see if it holds it's level. While doing this put in the spa flush for the decontamination and a small amount of dichlor.

The only way to know if it works it to try and turn it on and it needs water in it to do that.

Once you know it works then pick a sanitation method (chlorine, bromine, or nature2) from the hot tub chemistry section here and have at it.

I would also check on electrical ... have a pro come in and look at the whole she-bang.

And if you know the person who owned the home -- why not call him?

My daughter was in the same situation -she bought a home that had a hot tub in the basement -- a REALLY old one. She called the previous owner - but was out of luck "oh, WE never used it, either!" Since it was "that" old, they junked it.

But I'd call the previous owner, and ask.
