Wobbly
Depending on its contruction and use, wouldn't the use of a solar cover reduce UV depletion of chlorine? If so, wouldn't a lower concentration of CYA suffice to reduce UV depletion of chlorine? Our pool is typically covered about 23 hours a day, We swim in the late afternoon. We use a blue 12 mil cover. chem geek
Solar covers reduce the amount of loss from the UV in sunlight, but not by as much as you think since they tend to still let a lot of UV through. Nevertheless, they do cut it down somewhat. As for your using a lower CYA level, that's up to you. If your daily chlorine loss rate is low, then you can try lowering the CYA and see if the loss rate is still acceptable to you. With a lower CYA, you can have a lower FC target -- the minimum FC for a non-SWG pool is 7.5% of the CYA level (that's a minimum at ALL times, so often it will be higher when manually dosing).
