TimberWoofie
Best bet is that the heater is not working. If you run the pumps, the spa gets heat energy from the churnning of the impellers. If the spa is covered and you let the pump run for a long time, the temperature will rise to a fairly high value before equilibrium is reached. Chas
Your circulation pump is bad. That's the little pump, not the big jet pump. Or - it could be a clogged filter.
PreservedSwine
What Chas said- the heater is actually working fine, don't replace it. The circ pump has failed (As Chas said, the little one), or the filter is clogged. With a dead circ pump, the heater is overheating and tripping the "heater high limit" after a minute or two. When you reset it and hit the jets button, the heater circuit does not energize, and you're just getting heat from the large jet pump and heat generated by the friction of the water, with no way to control it.
