djs Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Hi all, I'm new to this forum, just not hottub'n. We bought our first tub in 93 (HotSpring Grandee) and had it for about 7 years before we sold it to a relative. My wife and I were expecting our second child and we didn't think we would use the tub for an extended period of time so we thought lets get rid of it. Biggest mistake we could have made. Every since we got rid of the tub we missed it. Any how we recently purchased an LA Spa Concord. Nice tub, big and roomy like the Grandee was, just considerably less money. Hopefully this tub will be as matainance free as the Grandee has been for my cousin. Later DJS Quote

Welcome aboard. Quote

I went and looked online at both models...seems like the HS Grandee looks better imo. Was there something about it you didnt like to make you look at the other model? granted I am only going by looks but was just curious why after having a tub with such a track record you would switch to another model. I paid $6,300.00 14 years ago for the Grandee. I went back to the same dealer to look at another one and was having a hard time spending another 10K + for a new one. This particular Hotspring dealer also carries LA Spas. So my wife and I decided to test out the Concord, so we did and we liked it. Not to mention it was 3k less. So far so good. I would say if money wasen't an object I would have bought another Grandee. But it was so I didn't Quote

Roger, My cousin is talking about getting rid of the tub and buying an new one. Don't know what brand. He has replaced the heater, circulation pump and cover. I believe he had a crack in the endurol shell a few years back, which he fixed. Tiles have fallen off around the water line. I'll admit the tub has seen better days, but it has seen alot of use. I wish I knew the answer to that. IMO the HotSpring is a better made tub. The "fit-n-finish" seems nicer on the HotSpring. I guess only time will tell so I'm keeping my finger crossed. I've read good and bad reviews on both companies so I guess like most things it's a crap shoot. I'm fairly methodical with matainence on the tubs, so hopefully that will help to prolong it's life. I tell everyone I do service for, maintenence is a very very important factor in the longevity of any tub. After 5-6-7 years we have a tendency to let our tubs be, test our water less, and maintain the surfaces less ofter, this can be very detrimental and should always be considered. Still to get 13 years with little trouble is not bad and I have seen them over 20 years old with minumal problems. For him that;s a little over 500 bucks a year for some relaxation and hundreds of hours of enjoyment. If it's ten grand which is a grand or two high in my area for that tub thats less than 1000 bucks a year or 80-90 bucks a month or 2.50 3.00 a soak if you soak every day 5-6 bucks if you soak 3-4 times a week. Well worth it. Quote

Well worth it. good way of looking at it. haha We just sold a Coleman spa to a customer that purchased one in 1987 from us and the tub is in excellent condition and we only went twice to service it in 20 years. This guy is maticulous with his water chemestry and took very good care of his tub. Now the 20 year old tub is going to be re-sold as used because it is that nice. Also I have a tiger river HS spa from 1989 and the thing works immaculate. Just take care of the tub and it will take care of you Quote
