Heath Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Alright, we found a guy who had a hot tub for sale, he said it had minor leaks in it and pretty much he moved in with it there and wanted it gone. so we bought it, We had to run electrical wire from the breaker of the house through the attic and down into its own breaker box which we mounted beside where the hot tub is now located, I'm not sure on the exact model of the tub, i know it's a Catalina, and after browsing around a bit, basically just looking at images and comparing them, i found the Catalina XL Series 12000 Spa, from this website http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-Pool_and_Pati...eries_12000_Spa That image is exactly what it looks like, so i guess that's the one. now, my problem: it has a stereo and speakers in it, but when we got it the stereo wasn't hooked up (he said not working) and the speakers were all rusted out... so we installed new speakers, took the stereo out cleaned it up a bit hooked everything up and it worked great, for about an hour after it got to a temperature of 102°F and it just shut off. neither breaker was flipped and i think the display for it was working, or at least it was after someone flipped the breaker off for a minute then back on. So, we took the entire switchboard out of it, made sure it was all mounted properly, changed the fuse, and hooked it all back up except the stereo... and turned it on to heat, it made it this time to 98°F and then did the same thing. it has one heater, and two pumps. does anyone have any idea what could be going on? The first thing I would try is disconecting one item at a time. You have the stereo dissconected so start there and move to the Ozonator if it has one. Them air blower, then heater. Once you have everything disconected from the control box except the filter pump and if it is still doing it, then we have a problem with flow, temp sensor or filter pump. Quote
Heath Posted March 13, 2007 Author Report Posted March 13, 2007 Yeah but there's no telling when it'll do it, the first time we heated it up it was on for over 14 hours, it could be longer, that method could take well over a week to figure out... i'll definitely try that while i wait on another response that could be a bit faster. Thanks for your help =] Quote

Thanks for your help =] But as you go through the componants it will be heating and running correct? And if it is still doing it after you are down to heater and filter pump you will have narrowed your possibilitys tremendously. So once you get to the heater and unplug that if it continues to run and filter after that the water will cool but not much, and you will have found your problem. A few days max. If it still kicks out after the heater is unpluged then you also know your problem is in your filter pump, or flow/temp sensors. Did you look at the pump seal and see if it was leaking and spitting water into the filter pump motor to short it out? Between the filter pump motor and pump head there is a seal look for a white residue or water dripping. Quote
