Replacement Motor For 4.5Hp Magnetek? Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm brand new to this forum and to owning a hot tub. Hopefully someone can help!

I just adopted an old hot tub, brand name Blue Pacific. It's 220 volt, and I had an electrician neighbor wire it up for me. When he turned it on, he said that the filter pump didn't work, and if I took it apart I may be able to put new bearing in, etc., for cheap. I tried to take it apart but I can't get the plastic impeller off due to the bolt being part of the plastic and stripping from the wrench head.

Anyway, what I need to know is where can I get a replacement pump that matches this one? Both pumps are 4.5hp - .50 SPL, and again this is for the filter. The jet motor works fine(so far).

The company/info on the pump is Magnetek Century Lasar Pool/Spa Motor, 1081/1563 Pump Duty.

I will try to upload a pic of the label and pump.

Now my question is this: do I need the same style of pump or can I get a smaller one? The guy at the local spa store said 4.5 is way too big, all I need is 2.0 hp.

If this is the setup that came with it though, I want to make sure it performs correctly.

The spa has 22 jets, and 10 other metal screened things that might be different kinds of jets or bubblers? Not sure how many gallons it holds, I have no info on the spa and the company seems to have gone out of business, so I haven't been able to get a manual.

If anyone has any help on this it would be amazing. If you need more info, just let me know.

Thanks in advance!IMAG0357.jpgIMAG0423.jpg

Ah, I'm starting to realize that. Thank you both! I read the labels and started to see/understand the vital info to find the correct motor. I've found the motor that matches on a few sites, but they don't come with the wet end and impeller attached, so now I have to find the right ones to match them...should be easy, right? Famous last words.

Can you recommend any companies to trust or stay away from for this kind of purchase? Hate to buy a clunker. If not, thanks anyway :)

Funny you should say that, I can't get the impeller off, due to the nut being plastic and brittle, it's just stripping. That's where it's binding too. The shaft seems to spin freely within the motor body, so if I could just get a replacement impeller there's a chance that the motor might still be salvageable. I just have to find a match first.

It wasn't working, so I tried to take it apart but I couldn't get the impeller off. It doesn't spin but I can turn the impeller by hand with enough effort. I tried to soak the rusted shaft with WD-40 so that maybe after a few days it would free up, but it's still pretty tight. It does rotate though, so I was thinking about doing exactly what you said and plugging it back in to see if it spins at all.

Silly question but does it need water in it to run? My spa is drained right now so would I have to fill it back up, or can I just unplug the jet motor and only power up the filter motor to see if it at least works?

Thanks for all your help, I wouldn't know how to do this stuff on my own..

9 year old post. Please start your own post and include photos of the white sticker on the motor that shows the hi and low speed AMP draw as well we need to know/see what size the plumbing is going into the face of the pump wet end and also out of the side of the pump wet end
