1tanna1 Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 How do I bring the total alkalinity up, without raising the ph? When I first fill my hot tub the ph is perfect (7.6) but the total alkalinity is somewhere between 20 and 30 (should be between 80-120)? I use alkalinity increaser, then my ph goes thru the roof. When I decrease the ph, down goes the alkalinity. I constantly have this yo-yo effect. Any suggestions? Quote
waterbear Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 pH increaser, which is just baking soda btw, will cause pH to increase. However, when you add acid to lower the pH it should not have any appreciable effect on the TA if you are NOT OVERDOSING ON THE ACID since pH moves much faster than TA does. http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28846 has some info that you might find useful Quote
