Intellitouch System Cycles Pump Every 15 Minutes

I have an IntelliTouch i9+3 controller, and an Intelliflo VS pump.

Since day 1, it turns off the main filter pump after 14 and 1/2 minutes, waits 30 seconds, then restarts the cycle, over and over again.

This has occurred with 2 different pumps, so I assume the Intellitouch controller is doing this. Why?

Thanks for the help.

Have you tried disconnecting the control cable from the pump so the pump runs as a stand alone as a test of the pump?

Have you reset the I9+3 to factory defaults and reprogrammed it?

Have you called Pentair support?

Thanks, Scott.

I've had identical behavior with 2 different pumps, so don't believe problem is with the pump.

Hadn't thought of resetting to defaults and reprogramming. Will try that as a last resort.

I'll try to get thru to tech support, first. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sounds like a bug...

Erase EEPROM. Pentair should be able to walk you through that over the phone. Copy all your settings down(unfortunately on paper) before you call, to save time.

Thanks, Pool Clown. Yep, that fixed it. Basically, I initialized the IntelliTouch Outdoor Control Panel to factory default settings, after which the system is SUPPOSED to automatically load the previous parameters that remain on the Indoor Control Panel. Very slick design, makes it easy to reflash firmware or replace system boards without reprogramming everything from scratch.

Either I didn't perform the steps properly, or the system just didn't quite make it that easy. After the reset the Indoor Control Panel wouldn't respond, AND the Intelliflo pump wouldn't communicate with the system either. After thrashing about for awhile, I got the Indoor panel back to normal by performing the LOCK ON ADDRESS procedure suggested in the Troubleshooting section of the manual. Unfortunately the info is spread around throughout the manual, but I got it done.

The pump still didn't respond to commands, so I got that fixed by using the Indoor panel to specifiy it as an "Intelliflo 4" pump, and assigning it some Circuit Names and associated pump speeds. That was CRITICAL. Without the Circuit Names the system had no way to find the pump and communicate with it.

Now it works perfectly for extended periods, with NO PAUSES! Fantastic. I'm delighted.

Thanks to all for the suggestions that pointed me in the right direction.

I am really intrigued with this intellitouch system and I would like to see how it would work just like that.

Though when it comes to the time that it would need for every single iteration of them working out, it would be really nice and interesting to see them work flawlessly.

Any thoughts on how you are going to be able to pull this one of that way.

I would break out the manal, and look at the possibilities of programing. the pump is doing what it is told to do. I would like to follow up on this. let me know what you find out. Many controll products have default filtration cycles of example 2 hours every 12 hours,... Balboa for example. Depending on bather load these perameters can be changed. Do you have the owners manual, and have you read it?
