Dnepr Dave
Does it stay on or does it run for ten minutes and shut itself of again? My Caldera (same manufacturer as Hotspring), Does that a couple of times a day, it just a filtering cycle. Dave
Hot Spring Ace
The brother-in-law's Hotspring Envoy has started to turn its pumps on itself. They woke this morning to the tub pumping away. Any ideas??? What year? There was a problem with the auxiliary panels 3+ years ago before switching to a different supplier. Maybe its a model that vintage which would have gotten that older type original aux panel. If unsure, they could temporarily disconnect the aux panel to see if the problem goes away and if so replace it. If they are sure they have the original aux panel and the spa if 3 or 4 or more years old (not sure of the exact time of the change) then I'd bet thats it. footie
I'll need to ask if it turned off after so many minutes or remained on. It's about 5 and 1/2 years old I believe and no panels have ever been replaced as far as I'm aware. You say aux panel which one is that, the one you operate from inside the tub or on the outside panel?
PreservedSwine
From inside the tub. They had two rounds of bad auxilary controls- the fiber optic units from the mid to late 90's- after many failures, they were retrofitted to current style milli-volt systems, and performed wonderful after the conversion. They continued to use the same vendor until 2004/2005, then switched to another vendor, and very troublesome product. After multiple issues, multiple failures, and a half dozen or so product revisions, they went back to the original vendor they were using pre-'04/05, and since then aux panels are again performing with no trouble. If you have an original that's about five years old, after turing off the power, simply unplug the aux at the IQ2020, as Hot Spring Ace recommends. It's the only phone jack type receptacle, located in the upper right hand side of the IQ2020. If you're uncomfortable taking the cover off the IQ2020, just use the "spa lock" feature of the control panel, to lock the spa while you're not using it. There are no purge or filter cycles on your Hot Springs Spa.
footie
^ He don't fancy a big repair bill this side of his holidays but wants to still use the tub, can this aux panel be by-passed and allow only the main panel outside to tub to control everything? Hot Spring Ace
^ He don't fancy a big repair bill this side of his holidays but wants to still use the tub, can this aux panel be by-passed and allow only the main panel outside to tub to control everything? Its simply a matter of unplugging that phone jack. Its simple to do so, all you need to do is; 1) shut off both breakers for safety, 2) remove the spa door, 3) remove the cover to the black control box (phillips head screwdriver) 4) look for a cord with a phone jack (there is literally only one in there) and unplug it, 4) put the control box cover back on, 5) put the spa door back on, 6) flip the breakers back on and you're all set. That disables the auxiliary control. Its really as simple as that. If after doing this you find the problem has gone away (almost for sure that is it) replace the auxilary control at a later date when you get the time/money to do so but you can run just fine without it by simply using the main control in the meantime (or forever if you so chose). footie
^Thanks for this. He's currently aboard at his mother-in-law's funeral and due back on Wednesday so will report back once he tries it out. Hope it works for him.
footie
Sorry for the late reply back with results. The disconnecting the other control board worked a treat so he's waiting until after the summer and then get it fixed. Thanks.
Norm Snow III
I bought a used 2010 Prodigy and it is starting and stopping randomly and abruptly. I think this has also caused the tub to trip the breaker a couple times. Thanks for this post - I just took aux jack out and I will see if behavior changes
RDspaguy
Hey Norm. If that's not it you should start a new thread of your own. It will get more notice than reviving an 8 year dead thread.
