Samdy
Greetings, I am taking a 1 week vacation. What precautions should I take so as to not come back to a tub full of nasty water? Thanks,
Even Further
Might want to include what sanitizer you use, and existing habits. I had to switch to Bromine because of my schedule. I couldn't leave the the tub for 4-5 days using Dichlor/Bleach. I can leave the tub for 5 days no problem with Bromine & floater.
endorfin
I know this topic has been discussed a lot in the past. But I was wondering, how low do you need to drop the temperature for a pool floater to be effective (assuming chlorine sanitizer and need to leave for a week)? If you drop to 85 degrees, can you use trichlor floater to maintain FC and then just continue with bleach when you can?

You run the risk of depleting the TA and having the pH crash very low which can cause damage to heat exchangers and other spa parts. You still are dealing with a very small volume of water. If you have added borates then you should not have any major problems and just need to superchlorinate and make sure there is not CC when you return before using the tub. Even without borates in the water i would just shut the tub off and then shock and rebalance when you return. Algae growth should not be a problem because the tub is covered and algae needs sunlight to grow and since there is no bather load you are not adding any more organics. Superclorinating and testing to make sure that CC is o ppm should get your water ready to soak in again.

What other habits would be helpful to answer? I plan on filling the floater with tabs, adding some shock and setting the temp at the lowest possible, mid 80's I think, without shutting it off. Well, that worked just fine.
