Wow, you're in a tight spot. Pulling your plugs is the best place to start. remove your pump lid. If you have jandy valves you can open them up too. Is your equipment at higher or lower elevation from your pool water height. Hopefully it is higher, and this should be sufficient. I'm in dallas an we're getting down into the single digits tonight. Since you didn't "winterize" your pool I'm assuming you are in a normally warm climate and the freeze your discussing is short term. But we need to know where you are, and if you can determine your freeze depth (sorry I don't know the technical term) then that may come into play. For instance. In DFW tx our freeze line is somewhere around 6", in other words, water 6" below surface level doesn't freeze, further north... It may be several feet.

Our region is typically about 18" depth. This is why footers typically need to be 24" deep to prevent frost heaves.
