Razorhog
The dealer gave me a container of SpaGuard Oxidizer "Enhanced Shock". The active ingredient is Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione at 58.2%. "Other ingredients" make up 41.8%. Description: SpaGuard's Enhanced Shock provides spa owners with a powerful, effective shock treatment to eliminate contaminants that build-up with use, while taking just 15 minutes to work. Oxidizers break down and remove organic compounds and their odors, as well as featuring a clarifier to help the filtering system detect and remove particles that remain. Enhanced Shock is compatible with chlorine, bromine, ozone, and ionization sanitizing systems, as well as being pH buffered to prevent changes to the delicate pH balance of your spa. They also gave me SpaGuard Sanitizer "Chlorinating Concentrate". It says the active ingredient is Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione at 99%. Description: SpaGuard's Chlorinating Concentrate provides spa owners with the sanitizing power of chlorine in a quick-dissolving granular form, making application quick and easy. Simply add to spa water while the pump is running, and they dissolve completely to start disinfecting your spa. Chlorinating Concentrate is also pH neutral to ensure no affect on your chemically-balanced spa water. This concentrate can be used in regular doses as a sanitizer, and in shock doses as an oxidizer. When using the pool calculator, it does not specify the concentration of dichlor. Does it mean the 58% dichlor or the 99% dichlor? I've been using the 58% "Enhanced Shock". chem geek
The Pool Calculator assumes that the Dichlor is dihydrate and is nearly 100% pure. So it has an available chlorine of 55-56%. So you can use The Pool Calculator for Dichlor if you are using the Chlorinating Concentrate since that is 99% Dichlor dihydrate. The Enhanced Shock is far weaker in chlorine though may have another oxidizer in it (hard to tell -- the MSDS doesn't list the other ingredients). quantumchromodynamics
I think that the "Enhanced Shock" is similar to DuPont Pool Care Multifunctional Shock.(1) (2), which is a blend of dichlor and MPS. This reference indicates that it also contains "sodium tetraborate-pentahydrate as a pH buffer". MSDS for Dupont Multifunctional shock. Oxone® blends with DichlorDuPont offers two patent pending Oxone® Dichlor blends. These blends are excellent multifunctional shocks for pool maintenance. • D15 – Use as a 4 in 1 multifunctional shock. This blend adds 1 ppm of free chlorine (1 lb per 10,000 gallons). Perfect for hot weather or high use pools. • D45 – Use as a 3 in 1 multifunctional shock. This blend adds 3 ppm of free chlorine (1 lb per 10,000 gallons). This product can be used as a weekly shock or as a primary sanitizer. Reference The D15 contains 15 % dichlor and the D45 contains 45 % dichlor. Razorhog
Awesome information, thanks again Quantum. I should probably stick with the Chlorine Concentrate so I know what I'm dealing with. I'll also pull that Proclear mineral sanitizer out of the filter area.
