mag357
I have a leak at the union where the water comes from the pump into the filter (Jandy system). It is black ring that looks like it should be tighten by hand but I can not turn it. Is there a tool that can be used to tighten this thing? Thanks
Pool Clown
First, turn off the pump before you do any work to the filter. I use large channel locks to break stubborn unions loose and HAND tighten to assemble. If it still leaks when hand tight, then there is a problem with the sealing oring, or the plumbing isn't lining up correctly.
mag357
Thanks Pool Clown for the reply. It was fine for a whole year and then all of a sudden it starts to drip. Like you say the seal might be going. I will try the channel lock open it a see if I can change the seal. Thanks again for the help.
AFiremanFirst
Channel lock pliers are great, and big ones like we carry are expensive... Grab a cheap pair of adjustable oil filter pliers at the automotive store, they will resemble channel locks with a bigger jaw, and they are curved and give you a better grip. I saw this once when my head was in a dark place on the back side of my body. I was moving valves around inadvertently shut all water off to the pump while it was running. Oops. Take the union off and good luck finding the o-ring, not meaning to sound angry, but I liked to never found just the o-ring, and the union is sold with the heater, so it's a hard item to get your hands on! South Central Pool supply did have it (a wholesaler all over the US)
