fairportfive
All, Test Kits! Currently I just have a simple 4 test kit from Pentair but was wanting to "geek" it up a little bit. I've seen a little bit about the Taylor kits and was curious as to the differences between the K-2005 and K-2006. I would love to hear everybody's pros/cons, do's/don'ts, etc. etc. etc. Thanks, Phil
poolyeti
Hey, Pretty much the only difference between the 2005 and 2006 is the method used for testing chlorine. the 2005 is DPD (color-based) and the 2006 is FAS-DPD (titrating or drop based). The 2006 is more accurate and less subjective.
fairportfive
Thanks. So would the 2006 be the best to get? Or is there something better? I don't really want to spend much more than $75 or thereabouts.
chem geek
The FAS-DPD chlorine test in the 2006 kit will let you test with an accuracy to 0.2 ppm and up to 50 ppm FC while the DPD test in the 2005 will bleach out above 10 ppm FC (so not great for testing chlorine levels if you need to shock). You can get the Taylor K-2006 at a good price here or you can get the TF100 test kit from tftestkits.com here which has 36% more volume of reagents so is comparably priced to the 2006 kit link I gave. Both are excellent kits and based on the same reagents (the TF100 is repackaged Taylor components in a more logical quantity -- you can read about differences in the kits here).
