slimmy pool

A Slimy or slippery pool is the beginning of an algae growth. First step is to brush the walls and floor- get the algae out into the pool where the chemicals can kill it better, and you should probably bring a sample to a dealer. If you are using chlorine, you may have a chloramine situation, where your at home tests show that you have a good free chlorine reading, but your total chlorine reading may be different. If your Total and Free Chlorine readings are different, then your levels are not good. The chlorine is trapped and can't kill bacteria, in which case you will need to shock the pool. Oh, and you may want to pick up an algicide from the dealer you go to to get the water test from (Unless you already have an algicide, in which case you should do a double dose of what the recommended maintenance dose is to help kill this beginning form of algae)- they will appreciate the business. Oh, and remember to clean your filter regularly to get the bacteria caught in it out of the water.
