nanell Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 We had a cold winter day today with high winds. The spa cover was left unlatched and blew open. We're not sure how long it had been open; we're guessing several hours. When we went out to close the lid we realized the spa was not running at all and the water is cold. We tried tripping the breaker inside the house as well as the one outside that connects to the spa. Nothing. We expect very cold temperatures tonight, 9 degrees, and we're worried about the pipes freezing to the spa. It is New Year's Day and no servicemen are available. Any idea what happened to our spa and any advice on what we should do? We are thinking to empty the spa of it's water until a day when we can get a serviceman out here. Would that be a good or bad idea? Quote
Chas Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I would sure look for a reset button - try turning the power off and back on with a minute or two in between. If you cannot find anything to get her going again, you can drain her down. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions on getting all the water out of the plumbing system and pumps/heater. Or, if you're sure the tech can come tomorrow, just run some hot water into the tub from a hot water tap in the house - be sure to force some of the hot water through the system to warm the equipment. TonyF Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 What is the make, model and age of your spa and the current water temperature. Check your owners manual for location or method of restting the spa. Iwould not be too quick to empty the spa; there is good insulation and it probably would not freeze if it is somewhat tepid. As suggest, put some really hot water into the spa. IN any event, whether you empty it or not, I would put a 100 watt lighted bulb in the pump area to keep some warmth in there. Tony Quote
wireman Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Go buy some kinda heat lamp. Put it inside the enclosure if there is room. Like the other guy said, check the temp. If you drain 70 degree water now you're left with very little water above 32 to keep whats left from freezing. Quote
