  1. Hi, I have recently replaced my pool vinyl liner, my pool is rectangle shape like this one: https://www.lathampool.com/products/rectangle/. I recently discovered on the shallow flat side of the pool (3 ft underwater ) there is a piece of debri under the liner, it might be a rock, twig, or a piece of metal (may be a screw or something lying flat). Whatever is under the liner, is large enough to cause a ridge on the liner surface which is 1-2 inch long and 0.2 to 0.4 inch high. I am concerned if that is problematic, what problems it can cause, can it damage the liner or reduce the life of liner? Any suggestions on how to take that piece of debris out would be highly appreciated? Thank you in advance for any guidance and help.
  2. Recently remodeled our pool. When we put the pool in spa mode the jets don't create any disturbance (no bubbles). The heater still works and the Jandy e-pump is on highest rpm possible. Just not enough pressure to make the bubbles come when the spa is in spa mode. Any possible problems come to mind?
  3. I hope this is the right section for this. We have had a major problem with our spa jets for over a year and a half now. The pool/spa combo was built in 2008. I am a young adult child of my father who owns this pool along with my mother. I am a disabled dependent and this spa is what I utilize for physical therapy and pain relief, it is not just a simple tool of leisure. My father has always been horrible at maintenance. He never maintenanced our pool until summer 2019. He never changed the pool filters, never changed the heater (which finally busted a few months back and was leaking gas fumes all over the place), and he didn't get a new pump until the same time he changed the filters when it was chugging to its death. He was surprised to learn these things had life-spans and needed to be changed out, and of course never listened to me whenever I told him something was wrong with our pool. The jets had lost a lot of strength, reasonably, as our old pump started to die. However, when we got our new pump they were stronger than they had ever been. They were so strong you couldn't put your hand flat up against them and stop the flow of water when on high (3300 rpm). When the jets were like that it was extremely helpful to me as I have myofascial pain syndrome in my back and wake up filled with knots everyday. The jets being so strong got them out in no time. Just a couple weeks later though I noticed the jets seemed maybe 10% less strong. I use this spa everyday and can easily tell the most minute difference in jet strength. I'd say it went down to about maybe 25% less strength before my dad decided to clean the filters and see if that would help. They were very dirty and would get dirty very quickly now with this new pump. About as dirty in 2 weeks as they used to get in months (according to my father). For a while it was like that, the strength would go down, my dad would clean the filters, and the jets would return to pretty much full strength. Now, this far down the line the jets are at about 30% strength now, you can cover the jets with your hand so easily a baby could do it. Now my knots are extremely difficult to get out and take much longer and fewer get released. We had someone look at the jets and say the pressure was fine, which told me this guy had no clue what he was doing. He did this thing where he said he cleared out the jets by turning them on when the spa is empty or something like that (I'm not quite sure, I wasn't there), and he said that helped (it did not). He also said to use a degreaser on the filters which we have already done before. Something else to note, just before summer 2020 we had someone come to repair the solar panels for the pool. The guy who did that said when he popped open whichever pipe he needed to on a panel the water was trickling out, and he said it should've been shooting out, so there was some kind of problem going on. The pump pressure meanwhile read in a normal range. So, it isn't me making this up like my father says, a guy came and said there was an issue with the water pressure! My father says the jets are plenty strong for him, but he doesn't understand how important it is that they work how they are supposed to so I can get pain relief and gain mobility. He doesn't really care. Now, if anyone possibly knows what the issue is with our spa it would be a massive help. A spa should be in 100% working order all the time, I don't see how that is some crazy concept. This spa cost and continues to cost money and my father seems to not care that he's paying for something that barely works. He doesn't really use it so out of sight out of mind, but I don't have that luxury. Also, if anyone knows of a tool that can measure the rpm of the jets directly from the jets that would help a great deal too because I need a reading on that to show the jets are not at the pressure the pump is. Thanks.

  6. Hello everyone, First time pool owner, it was installed in September. My kids are loving it. Happy I got the heater so we are able to enjoy the pool this fall. But I need to figure out how to close this thing cause "Winters Coming"...lol I need help with closing my pool it's a doughboy above ground 16x32 with a main drain and 7ft deep end. My problem that I'm having is that I don't know what to do with the main drain and the stand pipe that goes to the pump.
  7. Need some more help please. We're working through the engineering and we have a 4ft sheer on a raised elevation (used to be 10'). This sheer will be a CMP Brilliant Wonders LED waterfall and I was telling the engineer that the wall had to be 24" thick because one pool builder told me that and this was her response "The pool shell does not have to necessarily 24 inches thick to fit the water feature. I have seen many go in an 8 inch shell, it depends on the product you are using and the means and methods of the builder.' I can't find and information on the wall thickness for the sheer but I need all the plumbing and electrical to be in the wall because it's the outer wall of the pool and I don't want it exposed and prone to damage from lawn equipment and such. Can anyone help me figure out what to tell the engineer or should this be a custom block wall or something after gunnite? Pictures below for reference and the columns are a similar question.
  8. I have an outdoor above ground endless pool which is nearing completion, I am concerned about heat loss. The pool sits on a 20cm fibre reinforced slab and has 15cm of wall cavity insulation and 40 cm of brick all round. The pool is 5M x 2.5M 9000 litres which I would like to keep at 2- to 23 degrees all year round, I have a heat exchanger on my boiler and a 17Kw air heat pump . My issue is heat loss through the water surface so I need a cost effective lid, I can't find one that will fit and be easy to remove, is there a simple solution? Rob

  11. Where is a good place to buy a cheap solar pool heating system? I'm in Sydney, NSW but I don't mind ordering from the net if the cost is right. I have had some expensive quotes from some of the local stores, I'm just questioning if there are good deals out there. Even I am looking for such supplier/ manufacturer who take personal interest on my requirement and give me the best option to buy solar pool heater. The pool I'm looking at will be approx 10m x 20m with a structured deep end.
  12. I have a pool light (no others) which will not turn on. The GFCI would trip immediately after I flip the switch on. My setup is this: I have a timer box with circuit breakers and one GFCI receptacle. The light and pool pump are not tied to the timer, only my chlorine generator is. The pump is not connected to the GFCI, only the light is. I turned off the circuit breaker that is dedicated to the light. I was going to plug a hair dryer into the circuit breaker and leave the light switch off to see if something other than the light would trip the GFCI. However, after turning the circuit breaker back on with the light switch off (several times), the GFCI acted like it had no power. The reset button would stay in and the test button would do nothing. I tried the hair dryer and it would not turn on. I measured the circuit breaker from the input to neutral and got 118 v when it was turned on. I cannot immediately measure at the GFCI due to its positioning. I will have to remove it. With this symptom, can the issue still be downstream of the GFCI or is it more likely that the GFCI is broken, especially since it initially would trip and the test button would work? Should I remove the load wires to test this?
  13. Anyone know how I can setup a new round Intex 10'x30" above ground pool on a rectangular 7'x13' concrete slab that is surrounded by grass? Can I just use ~20 bags of mason sand and fill the cement area up to meet the grass height? Then put some sand on the grass to make it more level too? Is there a better way to do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I also purchased a pool pad as well. This will be my first pool setup and want it to be nice for the kids.
  14. We opened our pool after two years, we moved to our house two years back and last summer did not open the pool. This year we got a pool guy who opened the pool and I explained to him everything, he said he will work with us. So after opening he suggested to shock it, we shocked it almost a month everyday Algae in the pool cleared up to some extend but still could not see the bottom of the pool, so then the pool guy suggested to add Phoshfree but after we stopped shock and put phosfree the pool got worse, and after that I gave up since we already spent $600. Now we just want to close the pool, what chemicals can we add so we can just close it and deal with this next summer since we really can not afford to spend more. I checked estimate of draining the pool which costs $1200 so for now we can not do that. I am not sure we should drain it ourselves without experts, as its a vinyl pool, 14,000 gallons of water and Sand filter. So can we drain the pool and use some chemicals to clean the pool and refill water, I know everyone recommends that we should not completely drain vinyl pool but there does not seem to any other choice.
  15. sorry, if this is a daft question, but I've bought this 12ft diameter outdoor metal framed swimming pool. However, when i got it out and measured it- it measured 10ft but the box says 12ft! Do these things expand a little when completeely filled with water?
  16. i have a new 12ft diameter outdoor pool, just bought a solar cover for it. However, I'd like to use a chlorinator as i've been told they're good at keeping the levels just right. can a chlorinator be anchored down in the middle of the pool (a bit like a bouy) so it doesn't touch the solar cover. If the filter is on and the water is moving, then i can't see the problem.
  17. Hi, I have an inground pool with waterfall, with attached spa with another waterfall from the spa to the pool. I'm trying to figure out how to heat the spa only. There are a series of valves: 1. Switches suction from the spa to the pool. 2. Opens up/turns off flow to the pool waterfall (teed into the the return line. 3. Opens up /turns off flow to the spa waterfall, also teed into the return line. If I open up the suction to the spa (turning it off to the pool), close off the pool waterfall return, and open up the spa return flow, my assumption is the water is circulating through the heater and through the spa and then back. However, the spa just drains...please help!!
  18. I just bought a house with an in ground pool and spa combo. This my first time owning either. There is a small (1 1/2" - 2") pipe in the wall in between the two, which allows water flow (I assume). The pool is much colder than the spa. As I am attempting to heat up the spa, cold water from the pool just keeps rising in through that tube. I'd like my spa to operate between 100-103 degrees, but I cannot seem to get it past the low 90's with the cold (70-72 degree) pool water flowing in. The NG heater keeps running (set to max temp) without the ability to reach the desired temp in the spa. Is that pipe supposed to be there, is there supposed to be a cap... I'm freaking out... PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!
  19. Hi everyone. We bought a house that came with an AG 15,000 gallon pool almost 3 years ago. When we got it, we finished up the season knowing nothing but were given simple instructions and we managed fine and we closed it up fine. Last year, we opened it fine, chemicals were good for a month-ish and the pool looked inviting. Last year was a terrible year for our family, my husband lost his sister as well as he was diagnosed with cancer. The pool took a back burner. Between our normal jobs and appointments and you name it...it developed algae due to us #1)not knowing what we were doing #2)trusting the pool companies #3)not having time to commit to it. We unfortunately relied on the pool companies and all they did was have us spend a ton of money on things that didn't 100% work. We ended up closing the pool early (yes it was still a mess). When it came time to open it this year, we paid a company a come out and install a new sand filter (we previously had an old cartridge filter) and open the pool and get the chemicals off on the right foot for us. I can't say we were completely pleased, when he opened the pool, he dumped everything that was on the cover of the pool into the pool! That was nasty sitting water/leaves/etc that had been accumulating for over 6 months! By the time he was "done", the water was almost clear, it was a pretty blue, and you could see piles of debris sitting in the bottom, which he told us to use our Polaris to get out or scoop it out. As soon as we started this project, everything got stirred up. We've vacuumed the pool, used the Polaris, scooped out as much as we can...and we have this cloudy aquamarine/teal color and you can't see the bottom. I tested the pool about an hour ago and here were the results, we use a Taylor K2006 kit to do it ourselves since we found we got different results when we took the same pool sample to 3 different pool companies. FC: 2.8ppm CC: 1.2ppm Ph: 7.2 TA: 70ppm CH: 170ppm CYA: 60ppm We just received this test kit at the beginning of the month and we've been able to successfully raise and lower results as needed thanks to the treatment guide provided with the kit. This result was the highest the CC has been since we started testing. TA, CH, and CYA have been very stable since we originally got them corrected. The only things we're closely monitoring and adding are chlorine and soda ash as needed. The big question is how to be get our pool sparkling blue?
  20. Hi, It's my first post on this forum and I hope the experts here can help me. I've just opened the pool after the winter, and as you can see from the pictures below, the pool wall that connects to the pool coping has deteriorated. Last year some patch work was done by a friend of mine (not professional) with hydraulic cement and it seems that it has fallen off again. http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3729.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3730.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3731.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3732.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3733.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3734.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3735.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3736.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3737.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3738.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3739.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3740.JPG I called around, and a company quoted me $1500 to drain the water, put on some marble mix to fix the cracks, and gurantee the work for 15 years. He said it would take 2 guys a full day's work and come back again the next day. My questions are: 1. What is the proper way to fix this issue? 2. Can I tackle it by myself? 3. Why is hydraulic cement not working, is it because the crack is too big (as the company told me)? Or is it because it wasn't done properly last time? 4. Do I need special expansion additive to mix into the hydraulic cement? 5. Should I drain the pool and use regular cement to make it stronger? 6. How do I fix the cement around the skimmer? 7. The shallow end has smaller cracks from the previous patch, should I remove the previous patch and fix it again properly too? Thanks a lot and appreciate for your help! Regards, Fei
  21. I Have a Jandy Aqualink RS, the pool and spa lights turn on without any scheduled programs. This has been happening ever since the pool was built in 2005. No pool guy has been able to figure out the problem. The following actions have proven a failure: HARD REST RESET, AND CLEAR ALL PROGRAMS (THE HARD RESET IS WHEN YOU HOLD DOWN THE RESET BUTTON FOR 10 SECS AND TURN OF BREAKER WHILE STILL HOLDING BUTTON IT, THEN TURN POWER ON WHILE STILL HOLDING RESET BUTTON 10 SECS then lettting go) DISABLED THE SPA SIDE CONTROL TO RULE OUT THAT AS WELL The lights come on every night at around 9PM and off at around 11PM, i usually just turn it off by the remote. Just so you know, there are 0 programs for the pool or spa lights, they just randomly come on without any program. Please help. Thanks in advance.
  22. I have a natural gas lrz heater that is reading the wrong temp. Reads 93 when water is 80 ish, it turns on if I set the dial higher than 93 but its getting worse so I would like to fix it. Should I just replace the temp sensor or can I clean it or someething? Or is it another issue entirely? Thanks a lot
  23. I had a new Lonestar Fiberglass Pool installed in August 2013. It has leaked somewhere since. The installer has pressurized lines, replaced skimmer, we've tried everything. The pool drops at least 1 inch a day, regardless of humidity. It seems to slow or stop after it gets lower than the skimmer, and lower than the lights and discharge and suction line. It has one skimmer, three lights, four jet spas (over the two seats), one suction/vacumn line and 3 discharge lines. I've done the bucket test many many times and it fails every time. Any ideas out there? Cal
  24. Hi, I'm new to the forum - nice to meet you guys. I've recently purchased a home (in November) and I've been slowly getting the pool into order. When i moved in it was a swamp - i've since gotten it pretty much pristine. The previous owners had the bottom of the pool repainted at one point and it really looks great when it's in top shape. That said, right now the skimmer line is clogged (tons of trees, so i'm assuming it's leaves) and I'm likely going to need someone with a co2 gun come out and clear it - so it's a bit murky right now. But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to show you guys some of the plumbing and ask some questions about it, so here we go! First, here's a picture of when it's look good: Ok, so here's my skimmer: and here's some weird hole, water doesn't come out of it - it might be threaded, i was told it might be for a vaccum which would be great because im tired of running the kreepy krauly and manual vaccum from the skimmer: here's the plumbing: Some of the equipment: New wisperflow pump for the pool and spa circulation Old (i forget the brand name) black spa jet pump (under the bubbler) Two Chardonnay valves A very old filter An equally old heater A bubbler Some X10 stuff (X10 sucks) not shown Close of of the plumbing: From left to right: from the spa to the pump from the skimmer to the pool from the heater to the spa from the bubbler Here's from another angle, AND some weird capped off pipes (could this be for that vaccum hole?): So here are my questions: How might i go about determining what those capped off things are in the last picture. How might i determine what the mysterious hole is How can i tell if the bubbler is working - i guess i do so air in the spa, but the water\air only comes out about a foot, it's not very strong - do i need a better pump for that perhaps? How do you service a bubbler? What can you guys recomend in lieu of X10, preferably something that doesnt' require me to go over to the equipment and manually change valves. Should i bother re-doing all of the PVC here - it looks terrible and it's obvious that a lot of changes have been made over the years. I'd like to add the 'screw on' (for lack of a better word) connectors at various places to keep things nice when changing out components. Thanks!
  25. Hi I have a "paddling" pool, 8 foot diameter, about 3 foot deep. I filled it 2 weeks ago and the water's not looking great now. It's still reasonably clear but there are a few tiny bugs in it (larvae of some sort??). I'm a bit reluctant to drain it all and start again, so is there anything I can use to treat the water at this late stage? I'd like something which isn't going to damage the garden when I drain it. Any suggestions?? Thanks
