  2. Hello everyone, First time pool owner, it was installed in September. My kids are loving it. Happy I got the heater so we are able to enjoy the pool this fall. But I need to figure out how to close this thing cause "Winters Coming"...lol I need help with closing my pool it's a doughboy above ground 16x32 with a main drain and 7ft deep end. My problem that I'm having is that I don't know what to do with the main drain and the stand pipe that goes to the pump.
  3. Need some more help please. We're working through the engineering and we have a 4ft sheer on a raised elevation (used to be 10'). This sheer will be a CMP Brilliant Wonders LED waterfall and I was telling the engineer that the wall had to be 24" thick because one pool builder told me that and this was her response "The pool shell does not have to necessarily 24 inches thick to fit the water feature. I have seen many go in an 8 inch shell, it depends on the product you are using and the means and methods of the builder.' I can't find and information on the wall thickness for the sheer but
  4. Greetings. We have a new Latham Gemini series tanning ledge for $2000. It's "Vega" blue at 18' 1" wide, 8' 10" front to back, and 10" deep with 2 spillways in the mold. The returns are standard position - in back, 1 on each side at 10 and 2 o'clock positions. It's unused and ready to ship at a considerable discount. Message me if interested. We're in IA/IL/WI area. -Aaron
  5. I have an outdoor above ground endless pool which is nearing completion, I am concerned about heat loss. The pool sits on a 20cm fibre reinforced slab and has 15cm of wall cavity insulation and 40 cm of brick all round. The pool is 5M x 2.5M 9000 litres which I would like to keep at 2- to 23 degrees all year round, I have a heat exchanger on my boiler and a 17Kw air heat pump . My issue is heat loss through the water surface so I need a cost effective lid, I can't find one that will fit and be easy to remove, is there a simple solution? Rob

  8. Where is a good place to buy a cheap solar pool heating system? I'm in Sydney, NSW but I don't mind ordering from the net if the cost is right. I have had some expensive quotes from some of the local stores, I'm just questioning if there are good deals out there. Even I am looking for such supplier/ manufacturer who take personal interest on my requirement and give me the best option to buy solar pool heater. The pool I'm looking at will be approx 10m x 20m with a structured deep end.
  9. I have a pool light (no others) which will not turn on. The GFCI would trip immediately after I flip the switch on. My setup is this: I have a timer box with circuit breakers and one GFCI receptacle. The light and pool pump are not tied to the timer, only my chlorine generator is. The pump is not connected to the GFCI, only the light is. I turned off the circuit breaker that is dedicated to the light. I was going to plug a hair dryer into the circuit breaker and leave the light switch off to see if something other than the light would trip the GFCI. However, after turning the circui
  10. Anyone know how I can setup a new round Intex 10'x30" above ground pool on a rectangular 7'x13' concrete slab that is surrounded by grass? Can I just use ~20 bags of mason sand and fill the cement area up to meet the grass height? Then put some sand on the grass to make it more level too? Is there a better way to do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I also purchased a pool pad as well. This will be my first pool setup and want it to be nice for the kids.
  11. We opened our pool after two years, we moved to our house two years back and last summer did not open the pool. This year we got a pool guy who opened the pool and I explained to him everything, he said he will work with us. So after opening he suggested to shock it, we shocked it almost a month everyday Algae in the pool cleared up to some extend but still could not see the bottom of the pool, so then the pool guy suggested to add Phoshfree but after we stopped shock and put phosfree the pool got worse, and after that I gave up since we already spent $600. Now we just want to close the pool,
  12. Hi, I have an inground pool with waterfall, with attached spa with another waterfall from the spa to the pool. I'm trying to figure out how to heat the spa only. There are a series of valves: 1. Switches suction from the spa to the pool. 2. Opens up/turns off flow to the pool waterfall (teed into the the return line. 3. Opens up /turns off flow to the spa waterfall, also teed into the return line. If I open up the suction to the spa (turning it off to the pool), close off the pool waterfall return, and open up the spa return flow, my assumption is the water is circulating through th
  13. sorry, if this is a daft question, but I've bought this 12ft diameter outdoor metal framed swimming pool. However, when i got it out and measured it- it measured 10ft but the box says 12ft! Do these things expand a little when completeely filled with water?
  14. i have a new 12ft diameter outdoor pool, just bought a solar cover for it. However, I'd like to use a chlorinator as i've been told they're good at keeping the levels just right. can a chlorinator be anchored down in the middle of the pool (a bit like a bouy) so it doesn't touch the solar cover. If the filter is on and the water is moving, then i can't see the problem.
  15. I just bought a house with an in ground pool and spa combo. This my first time owning either. There is a small (1 1/2" - 2") pipe in the wall in between the two, which allows water flow (I assume). The pool is much colder than the spa. As I am attempting to heat up the spa, cold water from the pool just keeps rising in through that tube. I'd like my spa to operate between 100-103 degrees, but I cannot seem to get it past the low 90's with the cold (70-72 degree) pool water flowing in. The NG heater keeps running (set to max temp) without the ability to reach the desired temp in the spa. Is tha
  16. Hi everyone. We bought a house that came with an AG 15,000 gallon pool almost 3 years ago. When we got it, we finished up the season knowing nothing but were given simple instructions and we managed fine and we closed it up fine. Last year, we opened it fine, chemicals were good for a month-ish and the pool looked inviting. Last year was a terrible year for our family, my husband lost his sister as well as he was diagnosed with cancer. The pool took a back burner. Between our normal jobs and appointments and you name it...it developed algae due to us #1)not knowing what we were doing #2)trusti
  17. Hi, It's my first post on this forum and I hope the experts here can help me. I've just opened the pool after the winter, and as you can see from the pictures below, the pool wall that connects to the pool coping has deteriorated. Last year some patch work was done by a friend of mine (not professional) with hydraulic cement and it seems that it has fallen off again. http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3729.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3730.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3731.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3732.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/ph
  18. I Have a Jandy Aqualink RS, the pool and spa lights turn on without any scheduled programs. This has been happening ever since the pool was built in 2005. No pool guy has been able to figure out the problem. The following actions have proven a failure: HARD REST RESET, AND CLEAR ALL PROGRAMS (THE HARD RESET IS WHEN YOU HOLD DOWN THE RESET BUTTON FOR 10 SECS AND TURN OF BREAKER WHILE STILL HOLDING BUTTON IT, THEN TURN POWER ON WHILE STILL HOLDING RESET BUTTON 10 SECS then lettting go) DISABLED THE SPA SIDE CONTROL TO RULE OUT THAT AS WELL The lights come on every night at around 9PM and o
  19. I have a natural gas lrz heater that is reading the wrong temp. Reads 93 when water is 80 ish, it turns on if I set the dial higher than 93 but its getting worse so I would like to fix it. Should I just replace the temp sensor or can I clean it or someething? Or is it another issue entirely? Thanks a lot
  20. I had a new Lonestar Fiberglass Pool installed in August 2013. It has leaked somewhere since. The installer has pressurized lines, replaced skimmer, we've tried everything. The pool drops at least 1 inch a day, regardless of humidity. It seems to slow or stop after it gets lower than the skimmer, and lower than the lights and discharge and suction line. It has one skimmer, three lights, four jet spas (over the two seats), one suction/vacumn line and 3 discharge lines. I've done the bucket test many many times and it fails every time. Any ideas out there? Cal
  21. Hi, I'm new to the forum - nice to meet you guys. I've recently purchased a home (in November) and I've been slowly getting the pool into order. When i moved in it was a swamp - i've since gotten it pretty much pristine. The previous owners had the bottom of the pool repainted at one point and it really looks great when it's in top shape. That said, right now the skimmer line is clogged (tons of trees, so i'm assuming it's leaves) and I'm likely going to need someone with a co2 gun come out and clear it - so it's a bit murky right now. But that's not why I'm here. I'm here to show you gu
  22. Hi I have a "paddling" pool, 8 foot diameter, about 3 foot deep. I filled it 2 weeks ago and the water's not looking great now. It's still reasonably clear but there are a few tiny bugs in it (larvae of some sort??). I'm a bit reluctant to drain it all and start again, so is there anything I can use to treat the water at this late stage? I'd like something which isn't going to damage the garden when I drain it. Any suggestions?? Thanks
  23. Hello. My name is Erik Martin and I'm working on a new story for The Costco Connection (the consumer magazine for members of Costco stores) on the following topic: DIVING IN (WITHOUT TAKING A BATH): How to save money on maintaining and closing your pool this season: tips on the best supplies to switch to, routine care and upkeep practices that can prevent costly repairs, and why pool owners should learn to close a pool themselves, and how to do it, to save hundreds of dollars a year. For this story, I’m looking to interview homeowners who own and maintain their own pools. I can either conduc
  24. I used the hot tub (built in, overflow fountain into pool and little fountain in the middle of hot tub) for the first time, and it took a lot of guessing to figure out how to turn jets on/fountain off, etc. Finally got that figured out but now that I am trying to return it to normal I'm having trouble. I'm not sure if all the valves are turned right, but I figured out how to get all things solved... fountain at right height, small fountain in pool on, and jets off, but when I turn the valve that way the hot tub drains really quickly. Tried turning different valves different ways to see if drai
  25. I am building a new home at the moment and am putting in a pool at the same time. This will be my first time owning a pool and I am trying to understand what I should preemptively consider/buy now during this process. We have to use the pool company the builder has contracted with in order to have it done by close. Of course those prices are higher, so I am trying to get the most for my money. I know I could go with another pool builder, but honestly I don't want to deal with the hassle/mess afterwords! Here are a few questions I need help with: Is it easy to add on a wireless remote control
