  1. Hello, I recently bought a 2009 Marquis Epic spas (with circuit board: s/n 54278-04x, Marquise MQ2KU EL2 M3). I'm having trouble with my heater and need to troubleshoot my connections and dip switch settings but I'm missing the control system wiring diagram from the control box lid & so far I can't find this online anywhere. If anyone can share a picture or .pdf etc. of the system wiring diagram for a 2009 Balboa Marquis Epic spa it would help me out greatly. If everything is set correctly, I'll probably need a new heater, sensors, &/or a new circuit board, but want to take it one step at a time. I'll attach pics showing the circuit board info., chip, and current dip settings in case it helps. Thank you, -Kenneth
  2. 2009 Marquis Epic Spa Arrived at spa to find it cold and no power. Found GFI tripped. Reset GFI and panel powered up and displayed HOT. No controls will work. Set dip switch one to ON, cycled power. Set dip switch one to OFF and cycled power. HOT code cleared and now displays OHH. Found #1 Spa Pump failed with bearing locked up. Replaced Pump with new. Cleaned spa and filters. New pump turned on and ran for 1 min and shut down with flashing OHH code. Using meter, measured spa heater element disconnected at 10.5 ohms. With heater disconnected it has no effect or change to code. Measured water temp in tub at 65 deg. Measured water temp inside heater core at 65 deg. Measured Balboa M7 sensors at 36,100 ohms (69.3 degrees) and other at 37,210 ohms (68.1 degrees). I am using Balboa Temp & High Limit Sensor Chart. At one point the pumps turned on and I had full control from top control panel. Temp set for 89 deg. Temp indicated 111 deg. It then went to 112 deg and pump turned off and OHS code appeared. While it was working I had the filters removed and had excellent flow from both pumps. Cycled power again and OHS code cleared and OHH code immediately appeared. At this point I have no control at top panel and nothing works. Approximately every two hours pump 1 turns on low for 1 minute with OHH code flashing and pump turns off within 1 minute. I replaced upper control panel at the same time as pump. Checked all fuses and all check good. Power to GFI checks good. Power at Spa Circuit board checks good at 241.9 volts. Red to White 120.8 volts. Black to white 120.8 volts. Could my circuit board be causing the problem?
  3. Hello everybody! During these strange times we are in the process of buying our first hot tub. And it has come down to the Marquis Wish or Reward, mainly owing to availability and being recommended the dealer, who also sells Artesian. We are primarily looking for a hot tub with an excellent lower back massage as I suffer with chronic lower back pain. The secondary requirement is a good neck/shoulder massage as that's playing up as well - grumble. We intend on using it as a couple at the same time, but it would be nice to have room for a visiting couple or future children. That's a nice to have though. The right massage is key. I like the ability in the Wish to have both the lower back and shoulder HOT zones active at the same time, as the two main seats are the lounger and Captain's Chair and are in different zones. The only downside I can see is that the lower back hot zone on the Wish is just three jets in a triangle, whereas on the Reward it's five. The Reward has two great therapy seats, but you can only use the HOT zone jets in one of these at a time, as they are in the same zone. The lounger whilst in a separate zone does not have any HOT jets. So at the moment we are going for the Wish so that we can enjoy a pump each. But I am worried that the lower back massage won't be as good as in the Reward. Has anyone out there had the good fortune of having been in both models? Or what do owners think - in particular about the lower back massage capabilities? We can't even find a model to sit in dry let alone experience the jets sadly at this time. Wet testing is a pipe dream in covid times. We've also been told that the Wish is being discontinued, whilst the Reward will be cosmetically altered a bit in an upcoming rebrand. So this is our last chance to get a Wish it seems. In terms of price we can get the Reward for just £700 more than the Wish currently and with a lifelong cover thrown in to boot, but I want the right tub for us, not the best deal. In terms of height I'm 5'7 and my wife is 5'4. I have read that the Reward is good for taller people which obviously concerns me regarding jet positions being a bit off for us tiny people. Another positive perhaps for the Wish being that the shoulder HOT zone is in the lounge so a bit easier to adjust your position against them Vs being in a seat in the Reward if they are too high. Really appreciate any help and opinions out there. So lucky to be able to get a hot tub at this moment, but it is also a terrible time to get a true idea of what you are buying!
  4. Looking at a Marquis Vector21 (V84), definitely a higher tier than initially intended, but price is ON PAR with entry level Caldera and HotSprings (Vanto. Rhythm, shocker!). Can anyone with experience confirm if $11,500+ is a good buy for Marquis V84 in SW Ontario? No matter how we look at it, other models with few accessories add up to nearly $12,000 so may as well splurge, right? Thanks in advance!
  5. Just purchased a fully loaded Marquis Spirit - bluetooth radio, wifi, micro silk, etc. Can't wait for it to be delivered and to get into it! We are in NJ, and the tub will be in a 3-season room (concrete slab, roof, but 3-sides are open) Question: Should we plug it into the existing 120V outlet, or would it be worth the extra expense to have a dedicated 240V line ? From research, it seems there are only two benefits of a 240V line: 1) hot tub will heat up faster 2) heater can run when jets are on high (but will run when jets are on low) What should we do ? Is the time to heat up only an issue when you initially fill the tub ? I had another tub along time ago, i would keep at 90 or so, and then heat up to 103F when we wanted to use it. Is that not a workable strategy with 120V, and we'd need to keep the water near 100F all the time ? Any other differences in performance ? thanks!
  6. We have a very small space - at most 7 x 7'. I am interested in a 2-3 person tub for our moderate climate home. I will use it the most (and maintain it, my husband is not as interested) and am average size with back, knee and shoulder/neck problems. A corner unit would fit best but am concerned about proper jet positions and if they are deep enough. Lucky to have well-reviewed dealers locally - but haven't found a filled corner unit to test. Considering Hot Springs, Caldera and Marquis. Grateful for your advice.
  7. Greetings, All. We bought our Marquis Epic on 10/12 and love it. Filled it with our well-water (which is high-alkaline), shocked it with their recommended start-up shock, are using the @Ease Frog In-line Smart-Chlor system (in tandem with their Mineral cartridge) and feel like it is doing a good job of keeping things clean. As directed, I've tested the water regularly and it has shown to be high Alkalinity and sometimes higher Ph. We've used their Alkalinity Lowerer balancer (1/4 cup) and....the water is cloudy. How often can I attempt to reduce the alkalinity with that chemical? How long does it take to show results? The chlorine leves, by the way, are perfect. Or....must I empty it all, refill, and start from scratch? I've been assuring my wife the water is clean, but wish it weren't cloudy!! Any/all advice is appreciated but know that I truly prefer the Smart-Chlor/lower chlorine alternative to bromine....I'm believing this is a water/alkanity problem. Thank you!
  8. Thanks to Itchy & Scratchy, I don't even have my spa yet but after reading his experience with a used Marquis Spirit, I joined this Forum before going any further with my research in purchasing a spa. I have determined I want a Marquis. I would LOVE to have the Spirit, but a big price difference for me ON TOP of the costs for the concrete pad, electrical, rerouting my irrigation lines, etc., it is not doable. I originally wanted the Rendezvous. I love the size! I would be the only person using basically. I like the shape. Did not do a wet test, so uncertain as to how it actually performs. I did sit in ithe Rendezvous dry. I then got blindsighted by the Spirit. WOW. So, if $$ was not an object, I would purchase the Spirit. I am having a hard time finding anyone out there that actually owns a Rendezvous or can recommend yay or nay. I mainly just find information from dealers & Marquis. There are two versions of the Marquis Rendezvous, with the Discovery being the basic or lower end version, no water feature, etc. (Be careful when looking at the brochure, need to read the fine print to figure this out). LOL. So the discounted floor model would cost approximately $5200 (that does not include tax, etc.). That does include delivery & steps, some chemicals. That is a lot of money in my mind to spend to possibly be disappointed in performance. Also, interior of the Discovery only comes in white which would not be my first choice but that is really not important. I would love ANY feedback/opinions of the Rendezvous. I do not need any positive reinforcement on the Spirit, I just can't afford it and wish I would get the Rendezvous for a bit less to be honest. In the meantime, thank you for letting me join. I plan to lurk and soak up knowledge on the care and feeding of my potential purchase! While I am at it, if anyone wants to weigh in with their opinion on a woman, 68 years old, with some mobility issues....the practicability of being able to own/properly maintain a spa in the first place, please feel free to be blunt. I live in AZ so mild climate and would not be using the heater in the summer, would be using to chillax from the over 100 degree temps. I also promise not to EVER write another long post! LOL
  9. I'm down to these 3 manufacturers for my new hot tub, replacing a 12yr old Cal Spa. Wet tested all. Most concerned about Marquis being the smallest local shop. The debates over all foam or no foam for insulation is still a bit confusing. I'm looking for any pro's or con's with recent experience on any of these (warranty support, energy use, leaks, jet problems or other operational issues) Tubs being considered are J375 for Jacuzzi, Utopia for Caldera and Marquis Signature Epic. Thanks. Paul
  10. Hi everyone: I am doing research like I do on everything and think I have narrowed it down to 2 manufactures. Caldera & Marquis They both seem like higher end brands and I am trying to find what the real differences are performance wise quality of pump, jets, maintenance and insulation since I live in New England. One thing that stands out is the Marquis in made in the USA, but they seems more expensive? I work in the manufacturing industry and appreciate products made here. If there is anyone out there that has some pros and cons of the 2 brands it would be greatly appreciated. I will wet test both at the end of the day but I tend to focus on how things are built and perform. I also wanted to mention this purchase is more for therapy than leisure. I do have achy knees and shoulders so if one has better aspects in that department it would be good to know. I am also looking at a cost of 8 to 10k. Thank you for any advise.
  11. I purchased a used 2002 Marquis Spa Coastal Series Euphoria tub. The previous owner got it with his house and mentioned he had replaced the heater sometime in the 7 years he owned it. Everything worked well the first day and the water got up to 104. When trying out the tub for the first time, it appeared to be in a cleaning cycle. The top side panel was not responding to button presses for the jets or light. It appeared I could change settings related to the cleaning cycle times, and being a hot tub newb, I assumed I had just timed things badly and needed to wait until the cycle was over. The pumps started going crazy basically powering on and off for a few seconds at a time. I still thought this was a cleaning cycle, but it was so intense I shut the tub down. The next day after work, I turned it back on. "Pr" (priming) would display on the panel, and I would hear a relay click. It started clicking on and off, timed just like a car signal (I took a video!). I removed the cover of my Balboa SUV1U panel and realized there was some moisture. It turns out the heater tube had a tiny pinhole and water was spraying into the electronics. I used JB marine weld to close up the pin hole (at least for now) and I was told these boards can be fairly resilient even when wet, so I used a blow dryer to dry things out. That did not work. Currently the same thing happens, with the "Pr" message, a single click of a relay, and nothing else. The light still will turn on and off, but pumps don't seem to attempt to engage. I obviously know that water did some damage to the board, but I am trying to find out if anyone can think of the most likely issue on the board itself. If there was a transformer issue, would the panel still work? Would I still be able to use the light? I have checked all the fuses for continuity. They all seem fine (2 pump fuses, and 2 other fuses) It really seems like the panel is trying to prime the pumps, but they haven't engaged at all, so it can't get past that mode. Would there be something on the board that engages the pumps? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Hello Spa Experts, I have narrowed my search down to two Marquis Spas but the dealer was unable to answer my questions to my satisfaction (he just didn't know). The Epic holds 450 gallon of water and has 5 seats. The Reward is slightly smaller in size, hold 100 less gallons (350) and has 6 seats. Both have on lounger, and 3 Hot Zones. Unless the Reward is designed for 6 small people and the Epic 5 large people I don't understand the logic. Second, with the pumps the same size, and the reward has considerably less water.... can I hope to have more jet power? Lower operating costs? Fewer filter changes? Cleaner water? And has anyone used the Microsilk feature, and is it beneficial?
  13. Hi everyone, we have a 2006 marquis destiny that is showing an error code of HOt. We searched all over and can't find an explanation to this code. We checked and the gfci is working. The control pad won't accept any command and the water temp is at 65 so it must be preventing freezing. We also reset the breaker and it doesn't clear anything. The water level is fine and balanced. Any suggestions? Thank you
  14. Hello! We are buying our first hot tub and are considering three models: the Marquis Reward, the Artesian Antigua and the Jacuzzi 355. So far we've wet tested the Artesian, and my 5'2 self could not stay put in the lounge. The salesman suggested I turn off some of the leg jets to fix it, which seems to defeat the purpose. Price is around $8,100 out the door with steps and a cover lift. The Jacuzzi dealer doesn't have a lounge model filled to wet test (the two they have filled have regular seats), but the salesman doesn't think I'll have a problem in the lounger because of how deep the butt sits compared to how high the legs go. Price is around $8,200 out the door with steps and a cover lift. The Reward is one of the dealer's last two Marquis models left. We haven't been to the dealer yet to see it (so not sure if we can wet test yet), but it's around $8,600 out the door with steps, no cover lift. I'm worried about buying something with a lounge that we can't wet test in case I can't stay put in it. Anyone have these that can speak to this? Also open to other models that address this concern. Any thoughts on the pricing? Thanks for your help!
  15. A local seller is offering to sell his 2004(!) Marquis Euphoria for $1,500, including local delivery and a 3 month warranty. He says it includes a "newer" cover, and the Synthetic Cedar siding was replaced in 2011. (That has me a bit nervous, because I wonder what it looked like before he replaced it!) The interior is Taupe granite. $1,500 sounds to me like a good price, but I'd sure appreciate the collective wisdom of the group. What do you think?
  16. Does the circulation pump run 24/7 in these models (Sundance Chelsee and Marquis Promise) or only certain times of the day? I have been told two different things and need clarification.
  17. I'm purchasing my first hot tub. I've researched for awhile and based on size desired, dealer availability and cost have narrowed down to the Marquis Spirit or the HotSprings Jetsetter. Both of these are 3/4 person tubs, which is all I need. - I've wet-tested the Spirit and like it. I've found posts here and elsewhere about the Jetsetter but haven't wet-tested yet. Though I haven't wet-tested both yet, comments lead me to believe the jets on the Spirit are more what I'm looking for - there are low-back jets and leg jets on the Spirit, which the Jetsetter doesn't have. - I've read that I should look for a tub with a circulation pump, which the Jetsetter does have; the Spirit has "one HP120 dual speed, 120GPM jet pump and "ConstantClean in-line sanitation system". (Is this the same thing?) - The Spirit has 1 filter; the Jetsetter has 3. Is more better, as far as filters go? - The Jetsetter has an optional ACE Salt Water Sanitizing System. Would this be worth the extra cost? - I've checked both dealers on BBB and neither appears red-flagged. Though I don't particularly care for the car dealer-type hounding, I've been discouraged by the lack of pursuit by either dealer. We've discussed price and availability at the Marquis dealer, but I have to contact them for any update or follow-up. The Hotsprings dealer has never requested contact information, though I've visited twice. Just seems a bit weird. If they don't care about the business, how is the customer service after the sale? - I checked at Tradecertified to see if the dealers were listed as "Certified" Spa Dealers and/or "Certified" Spa Service providers. Only the HotSprings dealer was listed as "Certified" as a dealer; neither was listed as certified spa service. Should I be concerned about this? Especially since there were no dealers listed as certified spa service? What am I missing? Can someone give me any tips on making the final decision? Any pros/cons to Marquis vs HotSprings as far as the manufacturers standing behind their products? Thanks!
