  1. I have an 8 person arctic spa and I live in alberta. I use my hot tub 3 to 4 times a week for about 45 minutes to an hour each time. I keep it at 102 degrees. I was told it would raise my electric bill by about 30 a month during winter, but I have seen it raise my electric bill by closer to 80 per month. I am trying to figure out if this is normal. Thank you for any help.
  2. Just purchased a fully loaded Marquis Spirit - bluetooth radio, wifi, micro silk, etc. Can't wait for it to be delivered and to get into it! We are in NJ, and the tub will be in a 3-season room (concrete slab, roof, but 3-sides are open) Question: Should we plug it into the existing 120V outlet, or would it be worth the extra expense to have a dedicated 240V line ? From research, it seems there are only two benefits of a 240V line: 1) hot tub will heat up faster 2) heater can run when jets are on high (but will run when jets are on low) What should we do ? Is the time to heat up only an issue when you initially fill the tub ? I had another tub along time ago, i would keep at 90 or so, and then heat up to 103F when we wanted to use it. Is that not a workable strategy with 120V, and we'd need to keep the water near 100F all the time ? Any other differences in performance ? thanks!
  3. Let me first say that I am not attempting to do any electrical work myself, but my landlord sends his general maintenance guy to do the electric work on the pool. I'd like to be able to know if he's doing the work correctly. Our light went out a few months ago and a pool guy came out last week to replace it. He tried to check the GFCI but we don't have one. He wouldn't replace the light and recommended an electrician. The junction box is a few feet from the pool and is a box with a front cover (no GFCI). The light switch is in a breaker box that is dedicated to the pump and light. Do I just need a GFCI receptacle in the junction box, or is it not that simple? The house was built in the 60's. I don't know how old the pool is but it's possibly as old as the house. I am purchasing the house soon and want the work done correctly. Also, the front cover has not been on the junction box. Ii think it's been off for a few months and I'm wondering if water got in and behind the light. Would that cause the light to go out? I got a cover and fixed it yesterday. Thanks for any feedback....
  4. I would like to extend my pool season and am not sure which route to go when thinking of heaters. We live in Newport News Virginia. Regular season is probably June through September. I would like to try and extend our enjoyment from maybe mid April till mid October. I checked on solar heaters and they run around $3000.00 installed (low end) for my pool. I have a 12 x 24 kidney shaped pool. Somewhere around 8000-10000 gallons. 3 1/2' deep to 5 1/2' deep. Just seems high to me. Also, since the front of my house faces south, the panels will be facing the street. What happens when you have to do roof work? Can the panels get damaged in wind storms? Oh well...My other thought is gas heaters. Found a Hayward 150 for around $1300. How well do gas heaters work? How much does it cost? I wouldn't have it on all the time, just when I know we are getting in it on certain days. How much is the contractor to hook up the electrical for this? How much is it to hook up the gas? Thanks in advance. Just trying to get advice and numbers. Steve and Jodi Henderson Newport News, Va.
