  1. Looking for advice/suggestions for a DIY in-ground pool install using fiberglass panels and a poured concrete bottom. Have an opportunity to purchase (CHEAP) a 20x24 fiberglass panel pool. All info online I can find about these suggest they where used years ago? Can find no new manufactures of these panels (any suggestions?). Some questions I have are: What are the steps of installation? How does the fiberglass panel meet the concrete bottom? What supports panels during back filling outside panel & water filling interior of pool? Pour bottom first and set panels on top or set panels and pour concrete inside up to fiberglass? Need expansion joint material? What caulk or sealer for all joints? I consider myself very capable to tackle DIY projects and have access to excavators and concrete professionals to complete/assist with work. Just really need instruction on how to proceed from start to finish. Anyone ever do one of these or have experience with type? Or would you not even recommend it? I sure would appreciate all your advice, support and suggestions. Thanks,
  2. I'm getting ready to get a concrete pad poured for a new hot tub any suggestions on what the size and specification should be. What's a reasonable cost to pay in the Northeast. Also should we run conduit inside the concrete
  3. Greetings, Sensei of swimology. I have a concrete pool-about 10 years old. This year (I think possibly due to the extraordinarily mild winter), our algae was a nightmare to get under control. To achieve clear water, we did a few rounds of shock at 100oz Day 1, 70 oz Day 2 , and 30 oz Day 3. Our pool is 39,000 gallons. Finally, the pool is clear and the water is well balanced. But we have a lot of algae that is adhered to the walls & floor that simply will not brush off-and is still green. We do brush it & the water clouds up until the filter pulls out the algae that is floating, but we still have algae embedded. Our filter is a DE system, about 2-3 years old. For the last couple of years, we moved away from the stabilized tablets because our water was "over-stabilized" to quote our local guy. How do we remove the embedded algae? Thank you.
  4. The Pool - Concrete bowl, fiberglass panel sides 20x40 oval shaped in ground. 3' shallow, 10' deep. Two jet returns fed from one line One working skimmer, one dead skimmer Bottom Drain DE Filter The problem - Loses water all summer long. Each fall we drain down to first step and leave for summer. Last two years it self drained over a period of six years passed the walls exposing the first few inches of the bowl. Other symptoms. If we pull from drain (and not skimmer) we lose A LOT less water. The returns are spitting out a fine, pale (tan) sandlike substance that collects near the spray pattern. Also, sizeable cracks and even some concrete missing in the shallow end of the bowl. Though the water stops draining before it gets to these.
