  1. It's finally time for me to update my inground pool. At 17 years of age, the liner was still the original (RIP - literally). I wanted to fill the thing in, but my wife feels it could be a thing of beauty once again. I lost the battle. My conditions for keeping the pool included spending money on a robotic bottom/side cleaner, and a robotic solar surface skimmer. I also got a Pentair SuperFlow VS pump and a Hayward saltwater chlorinator. Keeping my Sta-rite filter and heater. I know I won't be maintenance free - but as close as you can get in Pennsylvania with lots of trees and shrubs around the pool. To my topical question, has anybody had experience with the Solar Breeze NX? It seems like it should be a valuable unit for a pool with lots of surrounding vegetation, pollen, pine needles, and periodic mammal carcasses. Every year I have issues with pine needles getting into the pump impeller and I'm really sick of ripping it apart, not to mention frequent filter wahing. My goal here is to reduce the amount of cleaning. Evidently, you let it charge daily with its own built-in solar cells and let it run. I have a committed order with the company for one but wanted any input you folks might have. The website of the company is https://solar-breeze.com/. Te thing is pretty expensive, but COULD be worth it if it works. Thanks ahead of time from a new member
  2. I have a In-ground Pool that was built sometime in the early 90s. I am replacing the Tile, the Coping, the Plaster and the Concrete Deck around the pool. My question is, should I replace the Skimmer with a newer model while I have everything torn up? How hard is it to replace the Skimmer? Also how do you tell what kind of skimmer I have? I need new parts. (I have (2) holes in the bottom and one has a screw-in Plug, the other works my pool sweeper.) The only number I could find was B37 on the skimmer basket. Please help> Wayne
  3. Hi, It's my first post on this forum and I hope the experts here can help me. I've just opened the pool after the winter, and as you can see from the pictures below, the pool wall that connects to the pool coping has deteriorated. Last year some patch work was done by a friend of mine (not professional) with hydraulic cement and it seems that it has fallen off again. http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3729.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3730.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3731.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3732.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3733.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3734.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3735.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3736.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3737.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3738.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3739.JPG http://www.netbyair.com/photos/pool/IMG_3740.JPG I called around, and a company quoted me $1500 to drain the water, put on some marble mix to fix the cracks, and gurantee the work for 15 years. He said it would take 2 guys a full day's work and come back again the next day. My questions are: 1. What is the proper way to fix this issue? 2. Can I tackle it by myself? 3. Why is hydraulic cement not working, is it because the crack is too big (as the company told me)? Or is it because it wasn't done properly last time? 4. Do I need special expansion additive to mix into the hydraulic cement? 5. Should I drain the pool and use regular cement to make it stronger? 6. How do I fix the cement around the skimmer? 7. The shallow end has smaller cracks from the previous patch, should I remove the previous patch and fix it again properly too? Thanks a lot and appreciate for your help! Regards, Fei
  4. Hi I have in-ground vinyl liner pool that is in the process of liner replacement , I decided to replace the skimmer , since it has been there for at least 20 years . So I broke the patio concrete , dug up the skimmer , and discovered that an opening in the steal wall where skimmer mounts to is corroded , especially the bottom portion , the clearance holes where screws goes through are rusted out to the point that i can't mount thew skimmer . My few questions are as follows : Can I cut new opening for a just a few inches over in the steal wall and drill new clearance holes ? Plug old one with a piece of sheet metal and move the skimmer over ??? Can I use a piece of flex pipe to connect the skimmer to an existing rigid pipe that is coming out of the ground ?? I would appreciate some input from you guys
  5. I have a In Ground Pool that after the automatic cleaning system is engaged or regular filter is used sucks all the water out of the out take containment area that goes to the pump until it is sucking air. When this happens the pump is running air at this point and i have to shut the pump off. What I've done so far is: 1. Filled pool above the water line in water containment area that goes to the pump for filtering. 2. Cleaned both the trap filter and the paper filter. 3. Ran it using the auto cleaning system and without using the skimmer. 4. I've filled the pool up several times repeating this and water seems to going somewhere somehow. 5. Uncovered all the pipes up to where they go under the concrete and found no leaks. Please help and if not enough info let me know. David
  6. I hate to pull out the hose, kneel down on the aggregate stone (ouch!) hold the hose over an return to fill the line and then finally put the hose into the skimmer. Seems there has to be a better way. I have devised in my head away to plumb in a 3 way valve that I would connect to the vac hose. In one position, it will send water out the line to purge the air and in the other position, it will then reverse and suck from the pool. If it works, I just hook up the hose to the vac head and drop it in the pool. Purge, then vac. This seems reasonable on paper. Has anyone done this? Am over looking something that spells impending doom? Other solutions? Let me hear what you have done. DSipp
  7. I am having my deck resurfaced with EuroTile (a high strength concret overlay). I don't know the model for my skimmer, but need to replace the skimmer cover. Is there a generic cover that can be grouted into the deck?
  8. Hi, We just replaced the liner in an older (12-15 yrs) 15 x 30 ABG Oval Atlantic Pool and were going to use a Haward Wide Mouth skimmer as our new skimmer, but then realized the old skimmer was an odd size with different holes. Only a few of the new screw holes matched up with the old pattern. I have been looking online for different skimmers, but they all seem to be the same measurements and have the same hole pattern. The skimmer in question has a standard wide mouth pattern that measures 13-7/8" wide x 7-1/4" high. The screw pattern is three on the sides and five on the top and bottom each. It looks similar to this ___O O______ O _______ O O ___ I I I I O O O O O O I I I___O O______ O________ O O __ I On the outside of this pattern is another pattern and the total skimmer face plate measures 16-1/8" wide x 9-3/4" high. It is so old that there is no longer any names or model numbers located on the skimmer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
