  1. I have a 2 year old Arctic Spa hot tub and I just finished troubleshooting a water flow issue. Turns out the filter bypass flapper valve broke off and was stuck at the face of the impeller. Is this thing even necessary or should I just leave it out?
  2. I just changed my sand, however, the valve won't go back on. Any ideas what I can try? The pipe appears flush and centered?? Any help would be appreciated!
  3. I have a very old (20+) years Garden Leisure spa. It's circular and only seats four people at the most. I recently replaced the GFCI plug receptacle successfully, but upon filing, there is a small leak from the pipe connection just before the valve. The water drips off the bottom of the valve, but is in fact coming from the pipe connection to it. See photos. I'm not sure what valve this is, as we no longer have the manual and information online is impossible to find, but it appears to be a gate valve. There's only one pump. Is there an easy way to patch this leak without replacing the valve? If I do have to replace the valve, can it be replaced with only PVC pipe and forget about the valve? Thanks for your help. 4. I have a 2009 Artesian island Grand Bahama that needs a new pump. Problem is, I can't get the slice valves to close all the way no matter how hard I press. The valve goes down, but stops like 1/4" or so from the end..... any idea why both of them would do this? I think it's a 2" waterway valve.
  5. I had a leak in the AquaFlo XP2 pump in my Morgan Oceanside Spa. The leak was between motor and the wet end. I ordered a seal kit from amazon and received it yesterday. I closed the slice valves and started to remove the pump, but a significant amount of water started draining and did not stop promptly, like the valves didn't close. So I drained the tub, removed motor and wet end, and separated the two. I found a great video on youtube from Spa Superman describing this process. The motor and pump are relatively new; only 2-3 years old, so everything came apart easily. The impeller was a little hard, but not too bad. I replaced the o-rings and shaft seals, no problem. I reinstalled everything back into the tub, filled it up, and powered it on. I didn't break anything during this process. All the plastic parts are intact. The whole process went very smoothly. The pump ran for 2-3 minutes, then I got a bright orange spark inside the motor. It tripped the breaker. There was no whine from the motor, and the pump was running in low speed. I flipped the breaker back on, and tried to start the motor, but all I get is a "click" sound when I press the pump button. I think the click is coming from the panel. Any ideas what went wrong? I am suspicious of one of the valves. When I opened it, the handle came off in my hand, and some water shot out in a stream. Could that be stuck closed, which would have constricted output from the pump? Like I said, there was no unusual or scary sound from the motor, and the pump was running in low speed. I see no obvious sign of anything being fried on the board, and the two buss fuses look fine.
  6. Hi, i have a cracked valve that I need to repair (photo). Is there a way to separate these joints to get the valve out? Thanks, George
  7. I have an inground indoor pool with Aquaspeed 1.5hp pump. This runs 24/7 and is costing me a fortune, especially as I hardly use the pool. The issue is how long the pump should run for (the pool is covered when not in use). If the answer to this question is anything less than 24/7 then my concern is this: If I put the pump on a timer, then when it goes off, there will be no suction on the inlet pipe (bringing the water towards the pump from the pool), and hence I wonder whether I thus also need an auto closing/opening valve (to go just before the pump) that closes when the pump turns off. In that way, no suction would be lost, and when the pump starts again (and the valve opens) full suction power will remain. Any ideas please anyone? Many thanks Daisy
  8. Good morning, We recently purchased a home with a pool. Having never owns a pool before, we are slowly figuring it all out - or so we thought until we tried to heat up the spa for the first time last night. We have a pool with an attached spa with spillover into the pool. The spa also has a hole in the middle for a screw in fountain ( which we have taken out). With the filter on the spa fills up and spills over into the pool. With the filter off the spa drains down to pool level. Not ideal, but it has been ok - the spa always fills back up when we turn the filter on. So last night we turned the valves to what we thought we were supposed to do, turn the heater on and the jets came on and the spa heated up, BUT it slowly drained down to pool level. I have tried all morning to attach photos of our set up but can't seem to figure it out. Help on all fronts would be appreciated http://flic.kr/p/e3N5H6 http://flic.kr/p/e3N5E8 http://flic.kr/p/e3THAs I can't get them to show up as pictures, but here are links to the pictures - I hope this works....
  9. I used the hot tub (built in, overflow fountain into pool and little fountain in the middle of hot tub) for the first time, and it took a lot of guessing to figure out how to turn jets on/fountain off, etc. Finally got that figured out but now that I am trying to return it to normal I'm having trouble. I'm not sure if all the valves are turned right, but I figured out how to get all things solved... fountain at right height, small fountain in pool on, and jets off, but when I turn the valve that way the hot tub drains really quickly. Tried turning different valves different ways to see if drain was open when that valve turned, but no matter what I tried it's still draining. When I turn it back to how it was before draining, the fountain in hot tub is at the right height, but the jets are still on and the pool fountain is off. I don't know the names of certain pipes or any of that, so what I have googled hasn't been much help, or I thought it helped but hot tub still is draining. Could get pictures if needed. Help!
  10. This is my second year with a vintage Buster Crabbe inground pool. Last year was a successful one learning all the basics. At the beginning of this season I decided I should change the sand in my 270T filter. All went well and I've been filtering (with a few backflushes) for a couple of days. Today, however, I started vacuuming the bottom and at point the return flow diminished (I was using a skimmer basket and of course the pump basket, and not using the was setting--this is how I did it last year). I turned off the pump, cleaned all the baskets, backwashed and rinsed, and then restarted filtering. The return flow was strong for about 30 seconds and then went to just about zero. I backflushed and rinsed a couple of more times with the same results. Trying to determine where the problem is, I checked flow on backwash and waste settings, with positive results--the water flows properly. Then I ran the rinse for a minute or so and monitored flow, and just as with the filter setting, the flow (this time away from the pool) diminished. So, I know that the problem is within the filter and not within the return line to the pool. Any thoughts? Could I have put too much sand in the filter? I was a little more than the recommended six inches from the top (more like eight). I used standard filter sand. Could it be a problem with the laterals? Could they somehow have been crushed? Why would it work for four days before this problem. And why after vacuuming? Have I put really bad slugde into the filter that won't come out? Also, the pump is working well, pulling/pushing as it should (when the settings are backwash and waste.
