  1. Hi everyone I need to upgrade my pool filter. it's btwn 20,000-25k gallons. Two skimmers with 1.5inch pvc plumbing, but these join together and run about 10 ft in 1 pipe to the pump. So this means max gpm is around 42? I originally bought a hayward 325sqft star clear c3030. Ive seen "you can't be too big", but I think this is too big/waste of money. Is the hayward 175sqft swim clear plus better, because the flowrate is restricted due to pipes anyway?
  2. I'm looking to upgrade my pool pump from a 32mm (1 1/4 inch) to accept a 50mm (2 inch) flow. I'm doing it because i want to use a heat pump (3kw hydro-s) which uses 50mm pipes. My pool is a 12ft diameter 2ft deep Jilong above ground pool with 32mm inlet and outlet (typical to intex/bestway style). I'm also upgrading filter pump to a sand filter (Hydro-Fit Filter Set) - this accepts both 32mm and 38mm. However the heat pump only accepts 50mm. I've been told about a couple of options so far: 1. (using type B adaptors at inlet/outlet and more rigid pipe) Intex type b adaptor on to pool £21.99 x 2 Large Intex hose £21.99 Pipe and fittings for heat pump £50 bypass kit 50mm to match heat pump £79 2. (using t piece hosetails) bypass kit £44 (38mm)6m of hose £18 (@£3 per/m)T piece hosetails x2 (32mm) £2.20 each (£4.40) I think I would need more stuff than no2 method above (dont think the company who quoted me that stuff fully understood my requirements). i've heard some cut into the pool lining to avoid downsizing the pipes, but i dont want to mess this up. the max flow from the heat pump is a bout 2.5m3 and 4m3 from the filter pump. would reducing the pipes from 50mm down to 32mm limit the performance of my heat pump? Or would the velecity increase and make up for it? any ideas please?
  3. I have an old hot tub that is nameless. It has a Baker Hydro Spa Pack model S7A Econo Catalina. Catalog-ABC2250 with serial # 84177. Top-side dual air control made by Len Gordon. Can you recommend an upgrade replacement package?
  4. I recently bought a home which had a hot tub included with the sale. We finally got it up and running and have noticed it loses heat more than we expected it to. We are in eastern Canada and have had some nights down to -4C already. For example a night not long ago it was -3C and we had 4 bathers in the tub for approx 1 - 1.5 hours and the tub was down to 100 (from 104 set) when we got out. I left the cover off for another half hour after we got out to add chemical and the tub was then down to 98. One set of jets was running most of the time, 1 bather had the air turned on for most of the time. The tub model is Legend by Platinum Hot Tubs. The spa pack is a Balboa HS200VS with a 4.0kW heater. I've noticed in researching tubs this is on the low end of heater ratings, with 5.5kW being more common. So I have a few questions... 1. Is this amount of heat loss normal? I hope not because its only going to get colder here, often down to -15C or -20C. 2. Is a heater upgrade possible on this pack? I've seen some recommendations elsewhere saying its never a good idea to upgrade a heater but what makes me think its possible is that the circuit board (P/N 55098) used in this spa pack is the same as a VS510SZ by Balboa which has a 5.5kW heater. And would it make a difference as far as heat loss is concerned? My spa is wired up to a 60A breaker. I've also noticed Balboa sells secondary auxillary heaters in various kW ratings, obviously one of these would require additional wiring but is it possible to retrofit these or are they only installed by spa manufacturers? Any help would be great, thanks.
