I have a Calypso II spa, and pump #1 is running on low speed, 24/7. The spa has two large pumps (1 and 2 stage), and a circ pump that is wired into the Ozone accessory. The Circ pump should run all the time, but not Pump #1. See page 15 under Jets: http://www.sundancespas.ca/Communications/InstructionManuals/1997650.pdf Any ideas for troubleshooting? I am wondering if a solenoid may be failing (and how to test it), or if it is the electronics.

I have a 2003 Sundance Altamar. Awhile back my blower stopped working, but I never used it, so just left that alone. However yesterday I tried to turn on the main pump (2 speed one) and the indicators light up on the display, but pump doesn't come on. I hear a low humming/buzzing instead. Is the pump dead? If so, I know the part to replace it with (Jacuzzi 6500-261) but I'm also curious if I could just replace it with a 1 speed pump and save money. I never run it in low speed anyway, so having a single speed would be fine. That leads me to 2 questions.... 1. Will it mess up the board in any way if I replace the 2 speed pump with a single speed one 2. The outlet is at a 45 degree angle on this pump. Does anyone know of a compatible pump that has a 45 degree outlet on it in a single speed? Thanks for your help!

Here's the background: I have a 2009 Sundance Certa 780, wired for 240V/60A which was purchased used in 2014 from a reputable shop with one year warranty, which is of course now expired. We’ve used it on average five nights a week since professional installation for 20 to 40 minutes per soak (I don’t know if that is considered a little or a lot, but I miss it already). I have no idea how much use it saw with the first owner, but it was in very good visual condition. Symptoms: The water no longer heats up. Heater light illuminates on the panel as expected. Both pumps work as expected. Pump one in both low and high modes, and pump two in high mode. Ozonator continues to blow bubbles when circulation pump is on. The filter is clean and there are no visible obstructions in any transparent lines accessible with the side panel off. Troubleshooting conducted to date: Confirmed the flow switch works via ohm meter. The circuit closes when pump is on and is open when pump is off. A flow error appeared on panel when I removed the J3 connector to test, but has not shown an error at other times. Confirmed the temp sensor is working. It reads about 21K ohms resistance and water temp confirmed via manual thermometer to be low 90’s farenheit. Measured voltage to “heater in” connectors to J7 and J8 at terminal block is 240v. Measured amperage to pumps to confirm inductive amp meter working correctly, but I didn’t get any reading on J7/J8 wires, or J9/J10 leads to heater when heater light came on (and heard relays click). With all power disconnected, I pulled J9/J10 and checked the wires from the heater, which registered an open circuit. No resistance on any setting. My conclusion is that I have a bad heater unit. What do the experts here think and is that reasonable on a seven year old spa? What other trouble shooting steps would you take prior to ordering a non-refundable part? So, if I’m correct and it’s the heater unit, it appears to be a Therm Products Heater C3229-2A for Jacuzzi and Sundance Heater Assembly 6500-402, 6500-403 120/240 Volt. If these conclusions are correct, where the heck can I find installation instructions? I’m comfortable with DIY, but having never worked on a spa before, so would like some info before I commit. For example, is it safe to assume the spa needs to be drained? Then it looks like there are a few wires to connect and a couple of hose connections. What else am I missing? Hello, I have a 1999 Sundance optima Spa. i recently bought a SpaCuzn Core insert from the manufacturer. Long story short, it was the incorrect size, and got sucked in the intake. The pump shut down. I shut the breaker off immediately. We drained the tub and retrieved the filter inset and put the tub back together. At the time of the incident, the pump was only 7 months old. Afterwards, the pump felt like it had diminished flow, but was working on both a low and a high speed. About a month later, the pump stopped working all together. We drained the tub once again, and after taking pump apart, we discovered that in the process of the insert getting sucked into the intake, it broke part of the plastic filter housing and that small piece of plastic also got sucked into the impeller and had been rolling around in there this whole time. We just replaced the pump with a brand new one. We were excited to get back up and running, but are having having the same problem - we push the button on the panel and it shows both 1 and 2 speed, we hear a click and the pump does not turn on. So, draining the tub again and are in search whatever part we need. Any ideas?? Thank you!

We have a 2002 Sundance Cameo that stated to trip the 240 GFI every few days. Since I have a 'time of use' electricity service, the spa is in 'Economy mode' so it only heats up during the cleaning cycles. I set the cleaning cycles to run during the night (cheaper electricity) so that when I get into the spa ( ~6 am) the spa is at the desired temp (~100f) The GFI trips sometimes during the night... every few days..... It Never trips while using the spa with all 4 consumers on (circulating pump, big motor, the two speed pump and air blower going) Things I did so far. 1) Ozone generator was >5 years old so I replace it. ---> No help 2) Circulating pump was 13 years old so I replaced it with a more efficient one --> No help 3) Heater element was 13 years old so I replaced it --> No help GFI test button in the main panel work well --- H E L P -- What should I do next ?

i recently installed a 2006 sundance altamar hot tub at my house. when i hit the blower button it was making a vacuum sound....now when i hit it all i hear is a clicking sound at the top right of the circuit board....any suggestions on how i can diagnose the problem?

So, we had a wind storm that destroyed out HT enough for the insurance company to allow us to get a new one. We had a Hot Springs Vanguard. Good Spa, five years old. New replacement cost $14700. So we have that amount to play with for a new toy. Was going to look at Marquis, but the local dealer has none to wet test, NIX. Wet tested a Caldera Cantabria. Was ok, nothing to write home about. Tested Bullfrog A7. Really like the concept of changing packs. Only problem is the dealer has only sold BF spas since Nov 2013. He has been in biz as a commercial pool guy for 6 years. They have sold about 10 in 10 months of business. I believe this is the second BF dealer in the Houston Area. Houston is not a huge HT town because most people have what they think is a spa in their swimming pool but I won't ramble...... The A8 falls well within the insurance payout budget. Concerns are the purification system (ozonator), filtration is not 24 hr continuous, and will the parts within a jet pack wear out if they have moving parts. The plastic of the jet packs seems a little frail but I may be way off base. We really did like the jets that we tried and love to be able to customize. Our Sundance dealer only had an Altamar and a lesser series set up that we didn't try. Liked the Altamar but much smaller than we wanted. Liked all aspects of the spa. Jets were not as good as the BF IMHO. Do like the waterfalls and rambling brook feature that the waterfall can be converted to, and I like the sanitation system plus UV. Sundance seems a great brand also and the dealer is willing to take my damaged but working spa off my hands and give me a few bucks for it. The Optima fell in the $12,500 range with piston lifter, steps, delivery, chemical kit, electrical hookup and stereo. Or we could get the Aspen or Maxxus for about $500 above(out of pocket) what the insurance will allow. We have space for a tub that size. Dealer has been in biz in Houston area a long time 20 plus years. So torn between Maxxus, Aspen, Optima and BullFrog A8 Thank all in advance,

Well, as the title of the topic states, the circuit board in my Sundance Spa Sentry 800 burst into flames and is beyond repair. The hot tub had been turned off for around two years or so when it had stopped working for no reason. I had winterized it well and thought id try to fix the problem myself this year. i had a feeling it was a fuse problem so I went to radioshack and purchased replacement fuses for the circuit board making sure that they were lower amp so that the equipment would not be damaged and were ceramic as they had been before. i popped in the new fuses and hit the breaker. Miraculously everything began working like it had before. a few hours later i had the hot tub filled and the pump and heater were just fine. after the hot tub had heated up a bit i thought i would make sure that the jets were still working. about 20 seconds after the jets had started the hot tub shut down. I thought it might have been a fuse as i had put a 1 amp fuse where a 1.25 amp fuse was needed, as well as an 5 amp where an 8 amp was asked for. After shutting off the power i went to the panel inside the hot tub to find smoke bellowing out of it. upon looking inside there were huge black burn marks all over the circuit board, some with exposed copper. oddly, I'm not so sure it had anything to do with the fuses i put in because the burn marks were not on the fuses or contact points for the fuse. I just ordered a new board and want to make sure that my $400.00 investment won't be for nothing and that the new board will not fry like the old one. the board that burned out was a 6600-014 and the board i am replacing it with is the same, a 6600-014 Spa Circuit Board for Sundance® Spas any ideas?? My 13 year old Coast Spa blew it's pumps last winter and we are looking to replace it with something more efficient. I'm 6' tall and my hubby is 6'9", so size does matter and we we're looking to get a 6/7 person spa (the Coast Spa was 92" x 92" x 39"). We'd like open seating with different jet options in each seat (including foot jets), but a lounge, lights and stereo are not important to us. So far, we've looked at the D1 Meridian which we liked because of its opening seating and large footwell, but with no option to wet test the Meridian, we tested the Latitude and weren't impressed at all. That takes D1 off the list. Still in the running is the Hot Springs Pulse (scheduled to wet test later this week, quoted cost $8,600), the Cladera Niagara (also hoping to wet test this week, quoted cost $9,900), and maybe the Sundance Optima (I just found this one mentioned in a few other posts and decided to look into it, but I have no idea of cost). We've tried and liked the Hot Spring Grandee, but it is a bit larger than we wanted, it lacked foot jets, I found myself floating all over the place, and with its $10,500 price tag, it is more than we were looking to spend. Given these parameters, any other ideas on quality spas we should check out? Another question, I know that Watkins owns both Hot Springs and Caldera, but is one superior to the other? The Hot Springs rep said that the mid-tier Pulse is superior to the top-tier Caldera Niagara. This sounds fishy to me. Anyone have thoughts on this? These two tubs are very similar in look (and even the rep said they were similar), though I found the Pulse's seating to be a bit more open which I lean towards. Also, the dealers don't seem willing to negotiate price. How do their prices seem to you educated masses? Any ideas on how to negotiate? As far as dealers, I think the Caldera and Hot Springs are similar (though the Caldera dealer says it doesn't charge a trip fee while the spa is under warranty while the Hot Springs dealer charges $50 after the first year). The Sundance is only available at a big box outdoor retailer (Great Escape), so I'm not sure how good service would be after the sale (which is a valid point of concern). As I said, we haven't made a trip to check out the Sundance tubs yet, but will if given some recommendations. Looking forward to your responses. PS: We did check out the Marquis too, but didn't see one in the showroom that we liked dry, the dealer seemed suspect and the prices thrown around were $10K plus. PPS: We live in the NW burbs of Chicago.

Good morning! My Sundance Optima 850 has the FLO error and the circulation pump is not running. If the flow switch is bad, will this keep the circulation pump from running? Or is it for sure the circulation pump? (well...unless it's a control board issue I suppose) The flow switch does have a little debris on it which made me suspect it, but if the $50 part is causing the issue, that's better than the $200 part! haha! Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I have spent hours reading this forum as well as a lot of other hot tub/spa information online. I'll tell you; my head is spinning! We have been overwhelmed with the different spas and options out there. Why I asked for help asap is because we looked at a used hot tub this evening & we need to let the guy know tomorrow whether or not we want to take it. First though, I'll give you some background information. Sorry, but this post will be long. We are new to hot tubs, so we are coming at selection from a newbie perspective. The main reason we want/need a hot tub is for my husband. He is 6'5, 40 years old and has early osteoarthritis. He is in a lot of pain after work if he walks or stands alot. He does residential and commercial construction - all aspects. So the hydrotherapy aspect is what we need it for. Money is tight - I'm forgoing getting a car and taking the bus because he needs a hot tub more. Doctor recommended it years ago, but we've never gotten around to getting one. We also have a small yard, but decided we can put it on the side of the house. The tub would probably be used every day by my husband and occasional use from myself and my 11 & 17 year old sons. We live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and have very cold winters. It's not too humid here since we're in the prairies. I have psoriasis and occasional bacterial skin infections, so I would want a system that doesn't make it worse. We don't travel, so looking after it regularly would be no problem. We know we want a lounger and a cool down seat. Because my husband is so tall - 6'5, & my 17 yr old is 6'6, a tub with a long lounger is best. We've sat in all these tubs I'll list below, but he has only wet tested the used Down East spa so far. Warranty is very important to my husband, so we're looking for a comprehensive package, & my husband is more partial to insulation that is easy to get to - not the sprayed in full foam. UPDATED: We've decided not to go with #1 -the used tub. Moving it would be a hassle & we'd prefer to have a warranty. Also a no for #2 - the Sundance Peyton. 7 feet isn't large enough for my tall family. A few inches extra definitely makes a difference. NO for #3 the Ciara - instead possibly the Olympus - I'll type over the Ciara specs in #3. Same with #6 - the Bullfrog spa. The price was just too high. Question though, is 2 - 2 hp pumps enough? That's what the Makena has, and for the price, we thought it would have higher hp. This one has 2 loungers though, so I don't know if we'll like it. We can sit in it, but not wet test it. We have only seen the pics on the web. The problem is these are in her back yard ,(new & packaged though) and she hasn't opened an actual store or warehouse yet, so we're concerned about warranty in the future. After looking at this last week, we thought it was too expensive but after deciding warranty and a better tub is important to us, we're willing to finance a higher price. They will also give 3 years warranty from their store on things that are usually 2 years. They said they could fill the tub for us to wet test it this week. We're leaning towards this one if they can bring down the price even more. The lighting package is great and we love that their is actual handles that light up too. There are speakers installed, but no stereo. The price for ozone is kind of expensive, but I wanted to ask about whether we should just buy an ozone kit online and install it ourselves. Is it worth getting ozone? Guess that's kind of another topic. The dealer would include cover lifter and stairs, and give us a deal on railing and anything else we want. The no tax or free salt system ended last week, but he's willing to honor it, so it's a pretty great deal. This tub also has the best warranty out of all of them. 5 years on most things as opposed to only 2 or 3 years for the rest of the tubs we looked at. I think I may bus it down there and wet test it later. We've heard great things about the hotsprings brand - our friend has one. We originally wanted the flair, but the lounger was too short. 6) New addition to list: http://www.northwindhottubs.com/freedom.html Northwind Freedom: It's the largest out of all of them at 92x92 and 40 inches deep. The other tubs were either 36 or 38. They said for $7800 we could get the floor model with ozone, upgraded insulation, a lighting package, steps & free delivery. Warranty wasn't that great, but it could be upgraded. The thing is, this one has NO LOUNGER, and we think we want one. The guy says most people don't like loungers & if they had one on their first tub, they get no lounger on their 2nd. I'm going to make a new post to see what people think about loungers. Does anyone here own the Freedom or a Northwind tub. I have no idea what the quality or reputation is. I also am not sure on what the best & easiest sanitation system for problem skin to use is - enzymes (we were told enzymes are the newest and greatest thing to use), bromine, chlorine, salt etc, and I'm not sure if we should let ozone included or not be a deciding factor. If ozone makes a big difference, would you recommend paying a lot more for the dealer to install it, or ordering one online. My husband is extremely handy, so it would be no problem for him to install himself. His (new, but small) construction company also has plumbers or electricians we can call on, (though my husband used to work with an electrician). Anyway, thanks again for your time & answers. Hello there! Although we've been talking about it for a long time, last Saturday my wife and I, on a whim, went into our first spa store in West LA, Pacific Spas and Sauna. We looked around at their spas, and (after dry tests only) we're focused on the Sundance Cameo and the Caldera Cantabria. Although the tub will mostly be for me and my wife, we want a big tub for social gatherings. We like the idea of a lounger, but as I said, no wet tests yet. I started doing research soon thereafter, which led me to this place. And I've already done enough reading in the Hot Tub Water Chemistry to almost scare me off the whole thing. I think I might be a bromine kinda guy, but that's another discussion... I've seen that both Sundance and Caldera seem to be top brands, but other brands like D1 are also getting my attention. I looked on Yelp and saw a bunch of negative reviews of PS&S, which scared the crap out of me. So I wanted to check here. PS&S has a "deal" on a 2011 (?) new Cantabria that was apparently ordered and then the buyer had to back out...whatever. Doesn't matter. The offer on the table is $10K, which includes the spa, hydraulic cover lift (don't know the brand), Durastep, the first batch of Aquafinesse (which, according to what I've read, I may not even use), tax, and delivery. Anyway, I'm here to see if anyone on the boards here have dealt with this dealer. We have a wet test planned for sometime this week, but I'd like to know whether to keep the appointment. I don't want to spend that much money and have the dealer abandon me if I have trouble (which is what almost all of the negative Yelp reviews say). Is this a good price? Is the dealer reputable? What other dealers do people on this board like in SoCal? What other tubs should I be looking at? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2007 Maxxus hot tub and it randomly goes into watchdog mode. The incoming power is fine (I'm an electrician). I ohm'd the heater sensor and temp sensor. Temp sensor was ~20K which was close to water temp, the heater sensor was ~14K which is off my temp/resistance reference chart so I replaced it. Tub fired up, ran for a while then I heard the contactor click a few times and then it was back into watchdog mode. I've checked everything I can inside the control panel as far as connections/fuses/etc. The two main capacitors are not bulged and the flow switch was replaced earlier in the year. The capacitors are 3300mf and rated for 35 volts. Anything else I can check? UPDATE: Now when I turn the power on I get differing amount of characters/lines on the display. Before I would get either the ---- or the tub would work for a little while then go into watchdog mode. UPDATE#2: Now when I turn it on the entire LCD display lights up and has a very fast flicker.

Hello - We have a Sundance 850 series 'Marin' hot tub that had a few issues in the past (see post: http://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26961&st=0) We resolved our previous problem by replacing the circuit board and all of the filters. After we did this in the spring last year, the hot tub worked for about 4-5 months but then just quit working. It gives us the awful "Watchdog" (----) error again. We did some tests and think the circuit board is bad again. So, recently we actually paid a Sundance hot tub tech to come out to diagnose the problem, as we did not want to keep replacing the expensive circuit board every 4-5 months just to get it to work. We figured there must be some underlying issue corrupting the boards. The tech determined that he wasn't really sure what the problem was but thought that we could start by replacing the circuit board and topside and then maybe the remote topside too if that didn't work. I gave him the old board we took out a few years ago (yes, I kept it!) in case that helped him diagnose and he said they both have the same issue. FYI - He did say that he thought one little spot in the topside might be getting a little warm. Also, when he was there, the hot tub was able to start ONCE, but then he couldn't get it to start again. I really don't want to pay to replace of those pieces as a trial and error type "solution" to the problem. He said the temp sensor is good. He looked at the capacitors on both boards, we kept the old circuit board too, and said they were not swollen and look fine. The tech was also unable to read the history/memory to get any other clues as to what could be the problem. So much for hiring someone to tell us what was wrong...ughh! (FYI - Also, in our previous problem - see link above-, we also had the breaker tripping and the tech that just came out said that was due to the ozenator so he just disconnected it since it's an option feature anyway and not required to make the spa work.) Before we buy a new circuit board or any other parts, do you have any idea if just replacing the circuit board will make it work? If it is going to cost A LOT to repair (we plan on doing the work ourselves) in parts, then we may just get rid of the tub completely. I've also seen some refurbished circuit boards online. Has anyone used a refurb board and do they work ok? I noticed some come with the Eprom and some don't. (I was told you can install your current Eprom into the refurb board fairly painlessly.) Hi, I am thinking about buying an older model Sundance Altamar and trying to retrofit it with Sundance's new technology, such as the Fluidix jets and ClearRay system. Does anyone know the Altamar models for which this would be possible? Would it be cost effective? For example, a new 2013 Altamar in my area costs around $10,000. I see 2002 Altamar models selling for around $1,500. If I could get the total retrofitting cost to around $5,000, I'm tempted to do it. I don't know if that's possible or not. Thanks!

Hi Everyone. This will be my second hot tub purchase. Previously I had a Jacuzzi 335 and I really like the power of it. There were several seats that really just knocked the crap out of me (when I had the diverters configured just right), which I really like/want. I've tried Hot Springs, but that seems like lack the power that I'm looking for. So next I tried D1, Jacuzzi, and Sundance. The Jacuzzi was OK, but I think I'd like to have a different brand this time, so that leaves it between D1 and Sundance. For D1, I'm considering the Amore Bay, which seems like it is one of their top of the line models. For Sundance, I'm looking at the Aspen (880 series). The D1 sales guy keeps talking about how the combination of the ozone + UV + mineral system (Vision?) basically allows me to use little to know chlorine and still maintain a perfectly clean and balanced tub. I don't know how much of this is marketing BS vs. fact. On my old Jacuzzi, I used a Bromine system, which I thought was super easy (basically once I did the initial set-up, I just shocked it once a week and of course checked the other chemical measurements). I remember that I had decided on going with Bromine since it didn't require the daily addition of chlorine. If I went with what the D1 guy is recommending (ozone + UV + mineral), would I need or be able to use bromine? How would that work? Would the D1 method require adding something after every time I use it? Also, are there any Amore Bay or Aspen owners out there that can share their perspective on either of these two models? From our wet tests, we love the optima but can only find one dealer. He is long established and decent yelp review, but from looking in this forum his price seems high. We are in New England Area. Dealer says it was filled and put outside as demo last month because they got a new Covana and needed to put a tub out to show it. This is the last 2012 optima they have in stock and he says it is a top seller for this level tub he quoted 13,000 at first. We thoroughly looked it over and there isn't a mark on that we could find. He also has HotSprings but we really liked the Optima hands down. (Also saw a caldera at another dealer but can't wet test) 2012 Sundance optima ... $11,000. (No stereo). He will not budge lower Cover, Lifter Cd ozone 220v added Delivery Starter chlorine kit Spa mineral purifier $100 toward chemicals in lieu of steps

Does the circulation pump run 24/7 in these models (Sundance Chelsee and Marquis Promise) or only certain times of the day? I have been told two different things and need clarification.

Hey everyone, So I've been doing a good deal of research on a new spa purchase. I know I want a larger tub, that is preferably deeper(I'm a larger fella, tall and heavy, but not huge). A big plus for me in a tub is easy maintenance, with lower to no odor, and minimal skin irritation. I'd like something my girlfriend and myself can stretch out in, but also that will accommodate several people for when we have parties. I intend to build a Sauna in close-ish vicinity to the tub, not that this is all that relevant, but I'm assuming you guys and gals have more experience with this, so who knows, perhaps it's a point to be made. Anyhow, build quality and energy consumption are huge selling points for me, as I'd like a tub that is low maintenance, durable in southern Michigan winters, won't cost me a ton to maintain in both price and time, and will cause me less hassle in the long run. I know that a good relationship with a dealer is extremely important, so that aside, assuming they all give equal service, what are your thought on Models, and brands I should be looking at, methods for getting the best price, and filtration and sanitization methods and add-ons for these models, to make maintenance as easy and cost effective as possible. Hello. My circulation pump has stopped working on me. It's an AO Smith C48M2N111A3. I'm going to either have it rebuilt locally or replace it with a Century UST1202. While I have this broken down, I planned on rebuilding the entire pump. I already have had to replace the pump housings on both motors from a rookie mistake (didn't pull the drain plugs in winter and ice cracked them). So the pump housings are practically new. But I thought I would replace the seals on the impeller because the motor mount shows signs that the seals were leaking. That's no big deal and have found those replacement parts. My issue is, I must just be missing what it is called or what they are, but there is a diffuser(?) that covers the impeller and there is a o ring between it and the out flow of the pump housing. Does anybody know what that cover is called and if I can get a replacement? It shows some small wear. What are these?

Currently own (for the past 2 months) a 2012 Sundance 880 Optima with 24hr circulation pump, Clearray UV light, 2 part filtration system (inside / outside microclean filtration, with floating skimmer). Sanitation system is the 4 month Sunpurity silver ion cartridge / MPS / shock / UV light. TRUE OR FALSE (provide comments too! ): 1) Dealer recommends NOT running the jet pumps after adding shock / MPS / chemical as the circ pump is fine. However, Sundance manual says to run jet pumps for 15 - 20 minutes afterwards. 2) Dealer recommends keeping the spa cover open for 40 minutes after adding chlorine shock to protect the cover. 3) Dealer reommends keeping the spa cover open for 40 minutes after adding MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidizer to protect the cover. 4) Nature2 cartridges can replace the Sunpurity cartridges. 5) Hot tubs / spas are awesome!!! 6) My current sanitation system is correct for silver ion cartridges (per deal recommendations): Add MPS after each use, add shock about once a week. Use test strips before each use, add chemical if required after each use. Thanks!

Hello all, My 97' sundance cameo 850 won't let me change the set temp when powered on. It's stuck at the factory 80deg F The up and down arrows work on the pad, the two temp probes show a very similar reading for the correct number of ohms. The screen won't lock, but does let you change the time using thoes keys. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi All, (sorry for the long post ) My wife and I are about to get our first hot tub. We are located in Edmonton, Canada. I am quite diligent in doing my research and have been reading up a lot in this forum; you guys have been a TON of help! First off, we have wet tested an Arctic Spa Norwegian (stroke that one off the list VERY quickly, real bad experience, tub was over chlorinated and stung our eyes, too many motors, retarded volcano foot jet), a Beachcomber 580 (stroke that one off after testing the Jacuzzi and Sundance, didn't feel as good..... great sales guy, but too pricey for not as good of a tub IMO), a Jacuzzi J-365 , and a Sundance Optima (these two we will be discussing). **WET TEST IS EVERYTHING!!** Note that there is a Hot Springs seller in Edmonton, but they aren't a dedicated hot tub place... their core business is Plumbing and Lighting and they change hot tub brands like I change my socks; so we didn't even look. Polar Spas was a joke (ozone and don't need any chemicals at all... WTF? ?), and we didn't get around to KoKo Beach (Coast spas). Catalina had a great sales guy, but felt the tubs weren't as good quality as the Jacuzzi and Sundance (but they were quite a bit cheaper). I will assume if you are reading this, you know the difference between a Jacuzzi J-365 and a Sundance Optima, so I will condense what I have determined are the key differences, and key similarities that I find important. Note that what is important to me is i) good for -40C Canadian winters (-45 in Newfoundland ), ii) construction & quality, iii) insulation, iv) efficiency, v) bang for your buck (don't need no fancy stereo and lights and TVs and waterfalls), vi) hydrotherapy / relaxation / hot water / strong jets SUNDANCE OPTIMA (dealers "Floor Model Special", grey colour) has 15 more jets (different type of jets when compared to the jacuzzi... i think?) has stereo (don't even want it, it'll probably just break anyway) better filtration with the MicroClean Ultra Filter (is it better?? is it really necessary?) better waterfall (but who cares, would be ok if it didn't have one) bigger foot dome /w more jets ISO 9001 certified company (but doesn't Jacuzzi own Sundance, and aren't Jacuzzi tubs made in Sundance manufacturing facility?) Status Indicator Light (i kinda like this... don't want to have to go out and open the Jacuzzi tub to see if there is a problem at -40C. Slipstream Floating Skimmer (is this better then what the Jacuzzi J-365 has???) SilentAir Injection System (SunScents Aromatherapy Delivery system) i-touch controls (better then Jacuzzi?) 30% deposit ($3900), and only until noon Aug 7th to decide $3500 more than the Jacuzzi JACUZZI (dealers "Truckload Sale") is the shell color we prefer more (white) $500 deposit, have until Aug 17th to decide. $3500 less than Sundance BOTH same UV Clear Ray system same size and # of motors both tubs have one circ pump about the same size of tub same warranty same cover both good company's (maybe Sundance a bit better) both titanium heating element, energy efficient full foam insulation wet-tested both, liked both (maybe Sundance a bit better) Jacuzzi has the "Tri-Fusion System Shell" while Sundance has the "Rigid Bond System Shell". After reading up on both of these I have determined that these are the exact same (same manufacturing facility?) My initial price negotiation with the Sundance dealer failed; was quite firm not to reduce.... I may have not been very convincing thou. Hi, We have a small outdoor space where we'd like to put a spa. We really like the Sundance Capri, but the quote we got was $8,895, which seeems really high. So, can we do better on the price? Should we look at other spas? We also looked at the Arctic Fox, but haven't wet-tested it yet. Thanks for any help you can give us!
