  1. When my pump is on low speed, the filter creates a weak vortex/whirpool above the weir/basket; on high speed, the vortex/whirlpool makes it through the weir all the way down to the basket, causing the filter and pump to take in small amounts of air. I've confirmed there is no debris in the basket and no debris in the filter or weir. Weir is being sucked all the way down properly. When I remove the weir, the vortex is still there, but again, not strong enough for it to reach the bottom/to put air into the system. I've ensured my water level is correct based on the manufacturers instructions + this was tested when I was in the spa so the water was even higher (it happens regardless of whether nobody is in, 1 person is in, or 2+ people are in). It's almost like the weir is designed to narrowly and/or the filter is sucking too hard. I've tested it with opening/closing every air valve and jet in different ways with no success. Filter is from factory. Tub is 2 weeks old. I've emailed the manufacturer. Has anyone heard of this before? It's noisy and I highly doubt adding air down the filter into the pump is doing any good. I can't simply remove the weir, as it clips in and holds the basket + filter in place when the pump is not on. Temporarily I can do this when the pump is on high speed, but that's beside the point. Again, the water level is sufficient. My friend has the exact same hot tub and his does not do this.
  2. So we got our very first hot tub- a Hot Spot/Hot Springs Stride model. We have well water, so the common problem we have is metal in the water -even though I use a prefilter on the hose to refill- which of course turns yellowish/greenish when you use the MPS oxidizer to shock it... No big deal- I had a system worked out where whenever I top up the water, I put a new filter in the tub, add the well water, add the MPS, it turns yellow, but then with the filters running, it’s clear again by morning, I take the yucky filter out- clean it and replace it with a new filter. I have two filters I rotate out- one for the day after the refill and then the other right up until I refill. This has worked well, up until now... My child had a sleepover with 3 friends and these boys splashed quite a bit (!!) of water out, so the refill was much more water than the usual top up... as expected the water turned yellow/green after I put the oxidizer in; I did the same process I usually do, but the next day water looked unchanged! What shocked me was the filter didn’t look that dirty either- not like it usually does. I figured since it was so much water added, maybe it needed some help- added a half a bottle of Metal Gon and ran the filter 6hrs, then 6hrs overnight. Nothing really happened except I began to see lots of yellow/orange around the tub. Added the other half of the bottle and ran filters 6hrs in the morning and 6hrs overnight again. Checked the filter- it had some brownish runoff when I cleaned it, but not much and definitely not like the normal brown “muck.” It is now 3 days later, with running the filter on the 6hr/6hr setting, and not seeing any real progress. Water is clear, but the yellow/green color. Other metrics are in balance (alkalinity, pH, calcium and chlorine all check out) My question is, is it possible for the jets to be working (high and low settings both work- no gurgling or surging), but the filter to somehow have no suction? With how yucky the water looks but how relatively clean the filter looks, it’s almost like the water is just circulating around the tub, but not thru the filter. I have made sure the filter basket area is clear of debris and I can feel water coming out of the 2 small jets inside the filter housing area. ...or for some reason is the metal just not clumping together with the Metal Gon and filtering out this time? Not sure what else to try from here- don’t want to drain and refill since with the same water source I’d just be right back at this issue I fear.
  3. Hi there everyone, I just joined the forum and first time pool owner. My wife and I bought a house in Jan that has an above ground pool. We opened it up on Memorial day and we've been working on getting it set up and the right chemicals in and such. We have a DE Filter and it's working fine however whenever I put in the vacuum accessory into the filter we lose all pressure in the filter and I can't get any suction to get the vacuum to even work. We're trying our hardest to not call someone out, I found the forum hoping someone can help us out. We're pool newbie so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
  4. Last year I bought a house with an old inground pool that uses a Hayward Super Pump and a Hayward 270T sand filter. This year, after changing the sand (350 lbs.), I've encountered a problem. When I go to suction the bottom of the pool, the suction on the pump decreases significantly, until there is no water flow whatsoever--there is water in the pump system (because the basket section is full to the lid with water), it's just not moving. After that, I have to switch the pump off and on a couple of times, which starts the water moving again. It appears to me that the problem is with the pump not having enough strength, so that when it's tasked with suction duties, it slows down to a halt. (Note that the motor is still running). Do I need to replace the impeller? Seals? Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks.
