  1. Hi! I came by my Master Spa hottub with the house we moved into 2018. We moved in the winter and the hot tub had been drained and moved. That spring, I positioned the hot tub where I wanted it (funny story—got a bunch of pvc pipe on 2x6s and rolled it, husband didn’t believe it would work, but it did and he finally came and helped me roll it across the backyard to its slab!) Hooked it up and filled and everything worked—but leaked of course from the freeze damage. I had to dig out ALOT of insulation to replace two manifolds and quite a bit of piping. Since then, once we hit November I’ve been draining and winterizing it as with no insulation no way could it maintain heat in our -50C high wind Sask winters. And I am terrified of the heater going and loosing the whole thing. (happened to our neighbours—that was one giant ice block) Also, no way would I tredge through snow to use it! I just finished replacing the circuit board, new heater, (thanks to @CanadianSpaTech!!!) and soon as I have a new topside should be good to go. Is there anyway/how to re-insulate so I could run it all winter? Even at lower temps for the 2-3 months I wouldn’t use it?
  2. Hey gang - I have a cal spa hot tub up here in Canada. The base is heavily insulated. I filled the side frame with rockwool comfort batt r16. Then, I wrapped the sides in vapor barrier that I stapled. It heats up and maintains heat well. Except there’s a high amount of moisture dripping down the inside of the vapor barrier. obvious that moisture will cause a problem. So it needs to be vented somehow. My question to you folks is how do you vent a tub side? And is it common to vent a tub? My neighbors hot tub does not have vapor barrier, and therefore no vent. Because mine does, I suspect it needs to breath. Any suggestions? my thoughts were too add a vent through the insulation and vapor barrier like this: Provent Exhaust Hood White 4 inch https://www.homedepot.ca/product/dundas-jafine-provent-exhaust-hood-white-4-inch/1000502245
  3. I have an outdoor above ground endless pool which is nearing completion, I am concerned about heat loss. The pool sits on a 20cm fibre reinforced slab and has 15cm of wall cavity insulation and 40 cm of brick all round. The pool is 5M x 2.5M 9000 litres which I would like to keep at 2- to 23 degrees all year round, I have a heat exchanger on my boiler and a 17Kw air heat pump . My issue is heat loss through the water surface so I need a cost effective lid, I can't find one that will fit and be easy to remove, is there a simple solution? Rob
  4. I have a pool heater with a 6" vent pipe that is routed through a wood picket fence. I am concerned that the heat from the pipe will damage the wood and potentially be a fire hazard. Is there a recommended insulation material that I can use around the hold in the fence that the pipe passes through that insulates the wood? I'm thinking of something like a pool noodle that I can slip over the edges of the fence boards, but made of a heat resistant ceramic/silicone material. Any suggestions?
  5. Hi all, I put my leaking Vanguard up on cinder blocks and dug up through the bottom to find the location of a leak (hopefully *the*leak.) But could someone help me understand what I’m looking at? I’m assuming this is a stretch of flex PVC that is encased in insulating foam? It has a kind of bulge in it -- is that just a random accumulation of foam or a fitting? Water drips off the bottom of the bulge and it feels like the area above it is burst wide open. I was thinking I should cut out the damaged section, and PVC cement in a new short stretch with a fitting on either side, but I can’t quite imagine how I will clean all that foam off for a good fitting. The leak is approximately between "I" and "J" in the red area below (the leak drains the tub down to the jet stream jet "J" without the spa running): Here is a video that shows the leak location: https://youtu.be/tJKnqA7adhk Thank you in advance for any help or advice!
  6. Hey Guys, I have an old 02/03 Jadan spa (inground) that I have recently dropped into a raised deck. It looks awesome and works great, but the pump is running hard. And my power bill is going to be huge. What I didn't consider when putting this in the deck was that approx 750mm of the spa shell will be out of the ground and therefore completely uninsulated. So my question is, what type of insulation should I use to wrap the shell? It will get water on it. So I'll need something waterproof. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
