  1. I have a 'Newporter' spa from Costco which has all Balboa internals. It won't heat past 90 degrees right now. The tub has a VS model controller box with a board labeled FREE300. It shows the firmware version on boot, but no error codes. It goes right to "PR" and behaves normally except for the ceiling on the temperature. The pump was replaced about six months ago and behaves normally. Here is what I have done so far: Turned it off and then on again many times. Drained and refilled Swapped the temperature sensors Removed and reinstalled the temperature sensors (not replaced) Tested the sensors, they give an approximately 40k ohm resistance at household room temperature Followed the procedure to reset the resident memory by putting a jumper across the two pins on the board. Also did the dip-switch reset procedure recommended for other boards in the series. Tested line voltage where connected to the board. Tested line voltage at the nearest junction box. Also tried changing the filter cycle times ( I had set it way down after overheating during the summer) I am not in a financial place where I can start swapping parts unless I am sure it will fix it. Is there some way to diagnose for sure which part is failing?
  2. I was given and I have installed a Sunrise Spa from 1997 at the cottage for summer use only. It was in a garage until now. It has a Aqua Spa Pak model ASP-2000-6-yoDoes anyone have a manual? It seems to work quite well for its age, but I have trouble getting it to heat up sometimes. The heat dial (it does not have a LED temperature setting) seems to work but I get 98 F and other times 115 F. Does it heat up better with or without the jets on? What does the High limit reset do exactly? Sometimes when I press the High limit reset the heater light goes on but usually it does not. Is the heater on only when the red light is on? The previous owner had a few extra wires hooked on the main board that I am not sure what they did but want to restore. I will put a picture below and maybe reinstalling this may help. I am guessing a thermostat and on/off. I would also appreciate suggestions to fix heating temp and for where to get parts down the road. Thank you.
  3. Hello. I have a Caldera hot tub and it was given to me. I cleaned it all up and filled it the other day. The jets work and so does the circulating pump. When I turned it on the word temp was flashing. I looked at the troubleshooting section of the manual and it said dirty filter. I took the filter out and cleaned. Now sometimes it will stop blinking and heat and then just stop. I have checked the pressure switch with a multimeter and it seems to function properly. Does anyone have any insight on what the problem may be.
  4. I have a 2000 Sweetwater Palermo spa. The water temperature is 3 degrees lower than the digital readout on the display on my control panel. (the temperature from a thermometer of the water reads 97 degrees but the display reads 100). I have a new heater, new filter and recently changed the water. I've had this spa since 2000 and am very familiar with how it heats and this is really not normal for the spa. Any clues what the issue might be? Sensor, topside control panel, etc.? Thanks.
  5. New Artesian Island Elite spa. How to determine the Optimum Circulation Pump Setting For Captiva Elite for 2 ppl?. Default is 12+12 hrs (24hrs 7 days a week) - always on. Seems like for warmer months 8 and 8 with two 4hr breaks (or perhaps even 6 and 6) would extend pump life with nominal effect on heating and filtering. During Winter I would reset to run 12+12 to allow continual low level heating. Looking for optimum power efficiency and pump life. Thoughts?
  6. We have a Arctic Spa summit less than a year old. It periodically allows the temperature to drop more than 10 degrees without the heater kicking in. The thermostat can be set to 103 and the temp reads 96. The store we purchased from has no idea what it can be because it does sometimes work and we cannot predict when it won’t. If you try increase the heat, it still won’t kick in until it feels like it. We recently replaced the chip in the mother board on advise from the technician but does not appear to have helped. Pumps all work fine and it does hit the temperature you set it to at times. Any advise or similar issues would be great to hear.
  7. Hi all, I have a Hot Springs Hot Spot SX that isn't heating. I'm able to set the target temp and the spa will attempt to run and heat up but after a while I get the following error code while the jets are running - display reads ===== with 'ready' slowly blinking, with filter cycle icon in lower right lit and jet icon in lower left lit. I feel like I may need to replace the electronic pressure switch because it dripped slowly for a couple minutes when I first turned it on. Any guidance is much appreciated!
  8. I managed to snag a used Zodiac Heat Pump this weekend. In looking to install it, we discovered some very specific municipal laws and in such, my heat pump needs to be 10feet from the pool. As such, I was thinking I could perhaps bury the in and out pipes for the pump, just because this is a high traffic area. I was thinking of just digging a trench an filling it with crush stone. I wouldn't bother putting soil over top as in fall i'd likely dig them back up for the winter. The pipes would likely be a few inches underground for about 5-6feet. I'm just wondering if this is a good idea and whether i'm looking at potential major heat loss or even damaged hoses? Thx in advance..
  9. I have a Down East D3000 purchased in 2000 I believe. It has a Balboa 51999/mas25 control board and basic 2 button control panel. A year ago it froze and I just finally had the time to fix it. We assumed either the pressure switch or heater went out. I tested both, heater works fine and pressure switch seems to be ok. After reassembling it we tested it. When first started (breaker flipped) it runs through its flashing 0 then shows the water temp. After the five seconds it errors out with Fl with out starting the pump which I am assuming the heater shutting down due to no flow. If the light/jet button is pushed in those first five seconds it runs and heats. When reaching temp on low speed it shuts down, but won't start the pump when calling for heat again and errors out with Fl again. When on high it doesn't seem to be shutting down to low on its own after 30 minutes either like it should. I am trying to narrow down if it is the controls or the control board bad before buying anything since each is around $200. Is there an OHM test I can do at the board to check if the panel is sending the signal at start up to start the pump, which wires and reading? The water temp seems to be about 5-10 degrees higher than what the panel reads also, but I don't see a bad thermostat causing my issues but could see a bad panel or board giving me a bad reading.
  10. My inground pool was opened last week. I have a Max E Therm heater and an Intellisense Control pad. I have the control pad set to heat the pool up to 82 degrees. The pool water was at 62F when I turned on the heater. The pool heated to 75F but won't heat any higher. I can hear the ETherm stop heating when we get to 75F (it says 75F on the ETherm LED panel). The Intellisense control pad states that the water is at 75F. Any ideas as to what could be causing this, or the best way to troubleshoot ?? thanks wjk
  11. Hi all, I hate to have this be my first post, but I wanted to throw this out there before I end up "throwing my tub out there." We purchased our first tub (Emerald Spas E550) in September of this year and tried to do as much research as possible to ensure our maintenance costs would be reasonable. We're in the NYC area so we can have falls and winters with varying temperatures. We typically use the tub on the weekends and heat it to 102F. We use it for a half hour and lower the temperature to ~90 when we're done, covering it with the supplied 4"x2" cover from the shop. When we come out in the morning (about 8 hours later), we find that the temperature has dropped to 90 degrees and the tub is in heat mode. From what we've been told by a few shops, manufacturers and other tub users, we should not see that sort of heat loss overnight. Typically - we're told - is that 2-3 degrees is the norm when using a good cover and the tub is insulated properly. We've had a few folks tell us 12 degree drops are definitely not normal. About the tub: It's on a 240 line in a concrete yard. It has a 4"x2" cover and has the spray foam insulation. It does not have reflective insulation on the panels. We are not running it in economy mode. We've called Emerald and they said it's not normal; call the shop. Called the shop and they say "it might be normal". They've sent a tech to look at the electrical setup and he said it's fine; the spa is working as expected and there's no anomalies in the setup. They're saying a 10-12 degree drop is normal and it's "the cost of doing business" when it comes to a tub - but I can't justify $200 in increased cost monthly to use a hot tub 8 days a month in the winter. We can't leave the tub at 102 all the time because it would essentially be heating all the time. My question is - is a 10-12 degree drop normal? Should I try to add insulation myself to the inside of the cabinet? Should I continue to badger the shop or manufacturer? Am I doing something that hot tub newbies shouldn't be doing? Any help is appreciated and of course, let me know if you need more info.
  12. Hello and thanks for looking. We have a coleman hottub we just were given. Seems to have a few issues, one being it seems to be taking forever to heat up and a code comes up saying cool. It's been on for two days and it's at 77 degrees. Another issue is about every other day the thing seems to trip the breaker. Would appreciate any help
  13. Hi All, I have a 2003 Landmark S Hot Springs Spa. I bought it used and ran it successfully for a few months. Deciding that it needed some basic maintenance, i turned off the power from the breakers, drained the spa and removed the 5 filters. They were quite dirty so i decided to completely replace them (not knowing how old they were). I bought 5 replacement filters of identical brand/model, inserted them in place of the old filters, filled the spa and turned it on from the breaker box. The tub turns on fine, the jets seem to be working well as usual but i am not getting any heat. I set the temp to 100 and allowed the tub to run for a few hours but no luck. I assume it must be filter related and/or i have fooled the hot tub into thinking that the high temp is tripping. What are the recommended steps to ensure that i have replaced the filters correctly? How should i get the heat back on? All was working well until i decided to do routine maintenance. Thanks,
  14. The Story behind the tub. i purchased a balboa hot tub from a spa company in my city and this tub is a 1998. when i first set everything up they forgot to send me the pump so when i called them they couldnt find it and gave me a brand new ultra jet pump. when i wired everything up the lite leader board wasnt putting out the right voltage so i had to get it replaced. once i finally had everything said and done the problem im having is the following When i wired the pump up the diagram on the lite leader showed brn blu and blk going to pump as high low and common. and the wires that i have for my pump are black red and white. so finally i found a diagram on the internet for lite leader that had those 3 colors and i wired it up. the problem im having is when i first boot up the hot tub it begins heating with the pump on low speed. which is my understanding thats how it should be but unfortunately it wont heat up the tub past 80 degrees. but when i switch the high and low wire so that it heats with the pump on high it heats the tub to 104. the issue im having is that this will use much much more electricity. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? Any help is appreciated it!
