I'm a new hot tub user and for about a week now I've been having an issue of just above 0ppm bromine levels, my pH and TA are completely fine and in the correct range although the bromine is next to nothing, I have a Sundance Optima 880 and I tried using the Brominator and a floating dispenser both together and one at a time and neither has fixed my issue and now just yesterday when the jets are on the hot tub starts to create foam. During the refilling stage I used infused bromine granules as I heard this is something you're supposed to use to boost the bromine upon refill, this worked and I had high bromine levels although they naturally ended up dropping. I've tried, refilling the water, using non-chlorine shock treatment, cleaning the filter with a filter cleaner hose attachment

I own an Artesian Kona Elite hot tub. It has two 5HP pumps and the following filters: • Pleatco PAS50SV-F2M (large) • Artesian Spas 06-0052-12 (small) The situation I am contending with is balancing the filtration times, foaming and the water temperature. With long filtration cycle times I have no foam but the hot tub water becomes excessively hot (set at 104°F but 107°F actual temperature). With short filtration cycles I have steady temperatures...but the foam quickly returns. Example: Filtering essentially 24 hours/day results in no foam, but the water temperature stabilizes 3-4°F above the set point. Filtering 3 hours AM and 3 hours PM keeps the water temperature steady as set but...voila! Revenge of the Foam. I keep the water chemistry balanced, check and rinse the filters at least weekly, and occasionally use enzyme and Bright & Clear. Every 3-4 months I drain, clean and refill the hot tub with an inline filter to reduce minerals. When I change the water I swap filters with an identical set cleaned with Spa Depot Power Soak filter cleaner and thoroughly rinsed. We're experienced spa bathers, so hot tub-safe cleaners are used and suits are re-rinsed after washing. We live in central Oklahoma and the hot tub is outdoors. We live near a storm water mitigation reservoir which is typically dry and filled with tall grasses and vegetation. Knowing that dust, pollen and other airborne contaminants are literally everywhere, we keep the cover on and secured when the tub is not in use. Some questions I have been unable to get satisfactory answers for: (1) The tub has two different size filters. The guys that delivered the spa installed the large filter nearest the control panel and pack side of the hot tub. Since there have been numerous issues with the delivery and installation process (still being worked out 10 months later) I'm wondering whether these were installed in the correct position? Based on the absence of any guidance on the topic, I'm assuming the positions are interchangeable but I don't like to assume facts not in evidence. (2) Is it possible to use different filters to increase the efficiency of the filtration process? The local spa company says no, that the filter sizes are sacrosanct for the make and model of hot tub. (3) The local spa company advised to use anti-foam agent. When I argued that should not be necessary on a regular basis they did change their tune, but as yet haven't offered up any advise on mitigating the foam without turning the hot tub into a lobster pot. Hello! This is my first post here, so first off thank you to everyone who has contributed and made this forum a great place to learn from unbiased (not the salesperson at Leslie's) about my new hot tub. I'm having a water chemistry and decontamination problem that I'm hoping for help with. My tub: Divine DL 1040 from Costco 440 gallons Usine 3-step bromine as detailed on this site. The backstory: I forgot to maintain my water balance and sanitizer levels for about a month back in May/June, so of course it was nasty when I finally opened it up. I superchlorinated overnight, drained and rinsed the tub and shop-vacced as much water as possible out of the lines (there are 120-something jets and 4 pumps in the tub so I didn't get it all, of course). I chose not to refill it at that time since I live in CA and we have the drought and all so I left it covered for the entire summer with periodic openings of the cover to let in fresh air. The problem: I refilled the tub last weekend and shocked it up to 20 ppm FC, but it was down to 0 ppm after 2 days and I noticed what I later determined to be white water mold after running the jets. Here's how I've tried to treat it: superchlorinated to probably 100 ppm FC, ran the jets for an hour, let it sit for 3 days. neutralized down to 10 or so ppm FC treated with Ahh-some and let sit overnight with the filters floating around in the ahh-some water as prescribed by the manufacturer drained the tub and scrubbed the gunk off with lysol wipes and bleach cleaner then rinsed with a hose refilled the tub, balanced the water, but the sanitizer demand was high and the white water mold came back. superchlorinated to probably 75-100 ppm FC again, ran the jets for an hour, let sit overnight treated with Ahh-some again and got way more gunk and a ton of foam that didn't come out the first time (note: I didn't neutralize the sanitizer this time) soaked the filters in filter cleaner overnight separate from the ahh-some treated tub this time ran the jets all day with the tub putting out mountains of foam and dripping gunk on the sides of the tub and the surrounding plants and lawn drained, scrubbed the heck out of it with ahh-some water, rinsed and refilled. rinsed and replaced the filters and balanced the water, I can see no evidence of the WWM so far but... now the same amount of concentrated bleach that had been elevating the FC by 2.5 ppm is only raising it by about .4 ppm and as soon as I added the bleach and turned on the jets I got a mountain of soap foam (much different in appearance than the foam from the ahh-some superchlorination treatment, these new bubbles are large and have a soapy appearance and feel to them) Update: i used some foam down product so I could get a look at the water and sure enough there seems to be a bunch of WWM floating around (in super small bits). Does this mean that it is still alive and reproducing or is the tub just clearing out the dead stuff from the pipes? Does anyone have ideas about what is going on with my tub or what I should do now?
