  1. Hi experts! Short version: When replacing hot tub filters, is it OK to increase the sqft of the filters (with all other dimensions being equal)? (e.g. replace 35sqft OEM filter with a 50sqft after market filter). Longer version: My hot tub is a 2015 Marquis E-Series 545. According to the website their replacement OEM filters are #20364. It's a 5" x 13 5/16" (2 1/8" hole), with simple core. Importantly it's a 35sqft filter. The OEM filters are a) expensive b) harder to find (only found on specialty websites), whereas filters like: Unicel C-4950 are available everywhere and are half the price. It has the same dimensions EXCEPT it is a 50sqft filter. Is this OK (using a higher sqft filter)? Will it restrict flow in any way? I've read on some FAQs that higher sqft will result in better filtration, but I'm still unsure if it's "bad for the pump" or something. I do see there's a closer Unicel filter (Unicel C-4637), which is 37sqft, but they're a little harder to come by. Thanks everyone! Jonathan
  2. Hi, i purchased two 2x20 SunQuest solar panels last year which i connected and laid them against a west/south/west facing fence. While it heated OK, i was not getting the full value of the solar panels. I would like to move the panels to my Southwest facing roof that gets sun exposure from 10a - 6p that should definitely help with heating our pool (located in CT) The pool was recently installed a few year ago and at the time did not contemplate solar roof panels. I'm currently operating a 1HP Hayward Power-FLO Matrix pump with a Hayward Perflex Extended Cycle DE Filter. The filter is rated for 50 GPM and 50 PSI. To get the water up to the pool, i would need to run about 50 feet of PVC to the house and then up 2 stories, an additional 30 feet, and back to the pump area. I've read in multiple threads that a 1HP pump should get the water up to the second story but am hoping to confirm with my configuration. I could upgrade the pump to a hayward 1.5HP without changing the filter if needed. I've already installed a 3-way jandy valve that I used last year when the panels were against the fence (about 5 ft away). The plan was to run PVC above ground to the house (along side the pool and deck) and up to the roof with at least 1 check valve to make sure the back pressure does impact the pump. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Best, John
  3. I'm hoping I can get some help Its my job to take care of a brand new 2018 Hotspring Sovereign for a friend. Its was installed about 6 weeks ago and only used 3 times by my friend. Here is the problem the logo light will flash red after 3 to 4 hours. The hot top dealer had me clean the filters there's 3 , that didn't work after a few hours it started blinking red, then they had me take the filters out all together and run the tub still after a few hours the light is red and every time it goes red i have to reset the main breaker. They have had there service team out 3 times to correct the problem with no luck today they are coming again. Does anyone have any idear. Thank's Denny
  4. I own an Artesian Kona Elite hot tub. It has two 5HP pumps and the following filters: • Pleatco PAS50SV-F2M (large) • Artesian Spas 06-0052-12 (small) The situation I am contending with is balancing the filtration times, foaming and the water temperature. With long filtration cycle times I have no foam but the hot tub water becomes excessively hot (set at 104°F but 107°F actual temperature). With short filtration cycles I have steady temperatures...but the foam quickly returns. Example: Filtering essentially 24 hours/day results in no foam, but the water temperature stabilizes 3-4°F above the set point. Filtering 3 hours AM and 3 hours PM keeps the water temperature steady as set but...voila! Revenge of the Foam. I keep the water chemistry balanced, check and rinse the filters at least weekly, and occasionally use enzyme and Bright & Clear. Every 3-4 months I drain, clean and refill the hot tub with an inline filter to reduce minerals. When I change the water I swap filters with an identical set cleaned with Spa Depot Power Soak filter cleaner and thoroughly rinsed. We're experienced spa bathers, so hot tub-safe cleaners are used and suits are re-rinsed after washing. We live in central Oklahoma and the hot tub is outdoors. We live near a storm water mitigation reservoir which is typically dry and filled with tall grasses and vegetation. Knowing that dust, pollen and other airborne contaminants are literally everywhere, we keep the cover on and secured when the tub is not in use. Some questions I have been unable to get satisfactory answers for: (1) The tub has two different size filters. The guys that delivered the spa installed the large filter nearest the control panel and pack side of the hot tub. Since there have been numerous issues with the delivery and installation process (still being worked out 10 months later) I'm wondering whether these were installed in the correct position? Based on the absence of any guidance on the topic, I'm assuming the positions are interchangeable but I don't like to assume facts not in evidence. (2) Is it possible to use different filters to increase the efficiency of the filtration process? The local spa company says no, that the filter sizes are sacrosanct for the make and model of hot tub. (3) The local spa company advised to use anti-foam agent. When I argued that should not be necessary on a regular basis they did change their tune, but as yet haven't offered up any advise on mitigating the foam without turning the hot tub into a lobster pot. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you for any advice! Matt
  5. I HAVE A HOT SPRINGS PRODIGY WITH WHICH I AM GENERALLY WELL PLEASED I FIND THAT I HAVE TO CLEAN FILTERS MORE FREQUENTLY THEN EXPECTED AS HEATER WILL TURN OFF AND TUB WILL GO INTO "PROTECTION MODE" WHEN FILTERS ARE DIRTY - PARTICULARLY THE CIRCULATOR FILTER IT SEEMS THAT IF I DO NOT CLEAN THE CIRCULATOR FILTER WEEKLY I WILL TRIGGER THIS SHUT DOWN OTHER SPA OWNERS TELL ME THAT THEY ONLY HAVE TO CLEAN ONCE A MONTH WITH NO SUCH REPERCUSSIONS IF THEY DO NOT ANY THOUGHTS?
  6. My first post, so go easy on me! I recently bought a house with an Arctic Spas Arctic Fox hot tub (about 2 years old). I changed the water and replaced the long cylindrical white filter accessed on top opposite the control panel, but I was wondering if this model has any other filters, either accessible from above or by removing a side panel down below? I searched the forum but couldn't find any info on it. Cheers Simon
