  1. After doing the decontamination procedure twice and the high sanitizer procedure once, once we balanced the final fill, there was no foam during running the jets. However, as soon as we got in, the foam started. It wasn't bad enough to make us want to get out, and the foam immediately dissolved after we turned off the jets/blower. So I'm guessing it is due to our clothing? Also we use one of those zorbo sponges, after 3 uses it's still new looking. After the first dip I started just throwing our towels and swimwear in the washer on rinse only, but so far there is no change. I also did a TSP soak of the filter for an hour, rinsed it well, followed by a muriatic acid dip and rinse too. My question is - is there a way to get rid of the foam without draining? I've tried Spa Selections Foam Out, which only dissolves it for a brief bit of time, under an hour. My other question is - If it has to do with clothing, why have I never experienced foaming at hotels and apartments? That gets many uses and many types of clothing. Just curious. Thanks!
  2. I am trying to do the decontamination process from Nitro. I have already done the enzyme part and dumped that. Now it's filled and I am trying to balance it to the TA of 80 and PH of 7.2. I've got the TA at 80 but nothing is getting the PH down. I just bought the test kit K-2106. The PH is showing at the highest level, and I only have to add 2 drops and it turns pink. So I check the book and for my 350 gallon spa I calculate that I need .63875 oz of muratic acid (18.89 ml) I do that and come back a few hours later or the next morning and test again. It gives me the same thing - high PH and 2 drops turns it pink. I've done this 4 times now. The only thing differently that I've done is that there is no filter. I accidentally missed the part of throwing the filter into the spa when I put the enzyme in and have a new one ordered. I didn't think it would be a good idea to put the dirty one back in. (The spa set with water for over a year - covered on a covered porch. Water was still crystal clear.) Any ideas on what I should do?
  3. I bought a used/refurbished hot tub a year ago. No problems for the past year at all. Kept chemical levels good and drained/refilled every 3 months. None the less I developed biomold and it seemed to happen overnight. I used two rounds of Spa Purge (drained and refilled after each round) and there was definitely a good amount that loosened up and drained out. Before refilling again I used a shop vac to suck water out of each jet. I also used the shop vac in reverse to blow the jets out. Problem is every time I do this more and more biofilm comes out of the jets. It seemed the Spa Purge worked as far as loosening it up but even after draining it seems it's still sitting in my pipes. Do I keep doing spa purge's and draining until it's all gone? Does biomold get to a point that I can super shock it to kill it? I'm losing my mind trying to figure it out. To me it seems like even when draining the water since the jets aren't running obviously some water containing the biomold just settles back in!
  4. Hello! This is my first post here, so first off thank you to everyone who has contributed and made this forum a great place to learn from unbiased (not the salesperson at Leslie's) about my new hot tub. I'm having a water chemistry and decontamination problem that I'm hoping for help with. My tub: Divine DL 1040 from Costco 440 gallons Usine 3-step bromine as detailed on this site. The backstory: I forgot to maintain my water balance and sanitizer levels for about a month back in May/June, so of course it was nasty when I finally opened it up. I superchlorinated overnight, drained and rinsed the tub and shop-vacced as much water as possible out of the lines (there are 120-something jets and 4 pumps in the tub so I didn't get it all, of course). I chose not to refill it at that time since I live in CA and we have the drought and all so I left it covered for the entire summer with periodic openings of the cover to let in fresh air. The problem: I refilled the tub last weekend and shocked it up to 20 ppm FC, but it was down to 0 ppm after 2 days and I noticed what I later determined to be white water mold after running the jets. Here's how I've tried to treat it: superchlorinated to probably 100 ppm FC, ran the jets for an hour, let it sit for 3 days. neutralized down to 10 or so ppm FC treated with Ahh-some and let sit overnight with the filters floating around in the ahh-some water as prescribed by the manufacturer drained the tub and scrubbed the gunk off with lysol wipes and bleach cleaner then rinsed with a hose refilled the tub, balanced the water, but the sanitizer demand was high and the white water mold came back. superchlorinated to probably 75-100 ppm FC again, ran the jets for an hour, let sit overnight treated with Ahh-some again and got way more gunk and a ton of foam that didn't come out the first time (note: I didn't neutralize the sanitizer this time) soaked the filters in filter cleaner overnight separate from the ahh-some treated tub this time ran the jets all day with the tub putting out mountains of foam and dripping gunk on the sides of the tub and the surrounding plants and lawn drained, scrubbed the heck out of it with ahh-some water, rinsed and refilled. rinsed and replaced the filters and balanced the water, I can see no evidence of the WWM so far but... now the same amount of concentrated bleach that had been elevating the FC by 2.5 ppm is only raising it by about .4 ppm and as soon as I added the bleach and turned on the jets I got a mountain of soap foam (much different in appearance than the foam from the ahh-some superchlorination treatment, these new bubbles are large and have a soapy appearance and feel to them) Update: i used some foam down product so I could get a look at the water and sure enough there seems to be a bunch of WWM floating around (in super small bits). Does this mean that it is still alive and reproducing or is the tub just clearing out the dead stuff from the pipes? Does anyone have ideas about what is going on with my tub or what I should do now? Thanks!
  5. I own a marque spirit 2 person hot tub approximately nine years old. I ended up with the house and the hot tub in a divorce but not before my Ex. let the hot tub sit covered with about 6" of water. The inside of the tub is now filled with slugs and black mold I mean covered. Should I even try and save this tub? I have missed my hot tub and can not afford a new one. Thanks for any help.
  6. I'm the new owner of a 2000 Hot Springs Sovreign (Model I) hot tub. I basically got it for free from a friend of a friend, just had to pay for the move, a new ozonator, and a new top. They weren't using it. I had it checked out before the move. It did look like it had once had some sort of creature living for sometime behind the door in with the motor/heater/etc. This worried me some, but when I had it checked out the guy ran the tub and it just needed an ozonator and had no leaks, so I figured the creature had not eaten away at any of the pipes. I'm preparing to do a full system clean (using 1 - "flush" from a dealer / 2- superclorination / 3 - rinse). But before getting to that, I hosed it all off (on its side before putting it into place), I scrubbed the whole thing down, and I cleaned out the dirt, sticks, etc left by whatever creature lived in the "pump room" which now looks like new. While doing this late last night, five different times I stood up to stretch and found a small slug (5 different slugs) in the tub itself. Is it possible that there are slugs living in the plumbing? Will my superchlorine and flush kill and remove these along with other "organic" matter? Will my wife freak out forever if there are a bunch of dead slugs floating on top of the tub? Anything else I should do? Am I doomed? I should also mention that I still have the old top on the tub (don't have the new one yet), so maybe it is possible they are in that, but I don't think so as the tub was wide open when this happened. Signed, Feeling Queezy (and hoping I am still going to end up with an awesome tub and very clean water)
  7. I recently bought a forclosure with an in-ground fiberglass spa separate from the pool with it's own pump/filter system. It was covered, full of water, and had not been turned on in probably 2 years (green scum on top but didn't really look too bad). I drained and refilled it, had the filter cartridge checked (it's a large pressure filter like a pool), had the system checked, and with a few minor repairs it's up and running. Now I want to disinfect it. All of the disinfection processes I've found involve draining the tub 2-3 times. Two issues - my area has severe water restrictions, and I'm on septic so there's nowhere to drain super-chlorinated water. I'm looking for a solution where another draining is not required. Also, I have ordered a new cover. Thanks!
