  1. Very new to the hot tub owner scene but I have met with several local dealers and can get my hands on the following: D1 Nautilus for $12999; Master Spa Clarity Precision 8 for $11995; Hydropool 720 for $15500. All include cover, stairs, delivery. From my research it seems you can find things people love and hate about every spa out there, which is making my decision even more difficult! Anyone have one of these models that could speak to them? Thank you!
  2. We have a 2009 Tiger River Spa Caspian model. About 2 years ago we replaced all the boards and button controls. It has been working great since. Tried to use it last night and found the whole system didn't have any power. Checked house breaker (still ok) and both breakers at the unit. When both breakers are on there is indication that the board is trying to power up when the pwr on indicator lights up. Then the D21 sensor shows red and it seems that something is trying to start up but nothing happens. This happens multiple times to no joy. I need to figure out what this sensor (D21) is linked to. Both main breakers are off again and I could really use some help before I call the repair people. Thanks Andrea
  3. My wife and I owned a D1 Aurora spa for 15 years. Early on, we discovered that she had skin sensititvity issue with most sanitizer systems. I couldn't use the D1 vision (silver ion) system, chlorine, or Bromine without her getting a severe itchy skin rash. I found that I could use Baqua Spa without ussue, and I used it for several years, but it was a pain in the butt, and caused other issues. About 8-9 years ago, I tried Pristine Blue (copper sanitizer system) and it was the answer to all my problems. I could maintain crystal clear water without using any chlorine (I used only the monopersulfate shock ans pristine Blue). The D1 had a 24 hour 10 GPM circulation pump and UV type ozonator that ran 24/7 (it didn't shut off when the tub was in use). About two years ago, I started having water clarity issues and found out the UV bulb in the ozone generator had failed. I replaced the bulb and the water cleared up immediately. Fast forward .. The D1 developed a leak that could not be repaired, so we decided it was time to buy a new spa. There is no D1 dealer near us, so we shopped around and bought a Bullfrog Spa about two months ago. The Bullfrog is eqipped with a programmable 35 GPM circ pump and plasma discharge ozone generator. I have set the circ pump to run 24 hours per day, but it only runs about 18 hours per day (probably due to the fact that it is a 35 GPM pump and overheats the water). My issue is that I can't seem to keep the water clear. It reminds me of the D1 with a bad ozone generator. I have to use large doses of chlorine shock several times a week, and monopersulfate shock every day. My wife can't get in the tub for 24 hours after a dose of chlorine shock, and she now takes a shower after every hot tub use (she still has small outbreaks sometimes, despite the precautions). It still often goes from clear to cloudy overnight, and tends to foam a lot as though there are soaps / detergents in the water. We wash all swim suits in the washing machine without detergent to prevent soap in the spa, so that shouldn't be a problem. We are becoming frustrated and begining to wonder if we made a bad decision. We were happy with the D1, maybe we should have bought another one instead of the Bullfrog. The only difference I can see is the circ pump / ozone system design: The D1 has a system whereby the ozone is mixed with the water in a seperate chamber and fully consumed before the water is re-introdued into the tub so that the ozone can run even when the tub is occupied. The D1 used a UV ozone generator and the Bullfrog uses a plasma discharge generator from Del Ozone The D1 had a 10 GPM pump that never shut off. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Is the UV generator better? I never smell ozone, even when the generator and pump are running, is it possible that the generator is not working? Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I am contemplating Jacuzzi J-470 or the Dimension Lotus Bay. Both around the same price. I've wet tested a 300 series Jacuzzi and liked it. Neither dealer has a Lotus Bay or J-470 to wet test. Looking for differences in jet pressure, efficiency, and filtration between these two spas, especially if you can offer as a comparison to the J-385. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Hello there! Although we've been talking about it for a long time, last Saturday my wife and I, on a whim, went into our first spa store in West LA, Pacific Spas and Sauna. We looked around at their spas, and (after dry tests only) we're focused on the Sundance Cameo and the Caldera Cantabria. Although the tub will mostly be for me and my wife, we want a big tub for social gatherings. We like the idea of a lounger, but as I said, no wet tests yet. I started doing research soon thereafter, which led me to this place. And I've already done enough reading in the Hot Tub Water Chemistry to almost scare me off the whole thing. I think I might be a bromine kinda guy, but that's another discussion... I've seen that both Sundance and Caldera seem to be top brands, but other brands like D1 are also getting my attention. I looked on Yelp and saw a bunch of negative reviews of PS&S, which scared the crap out of me. So I wanted to check here. PS&S has a "deal" on a 2011 (?) new Cantabria that was apparently ordered and then the buyer had to back out...whatever. Doesn't matter. The offer on the table is $10K, which includes the spa, hydraulic cover lift (don't know the brand), Durastep, the first batch of Aquafinesse (which, according to what I've read, I may not even use), tax, and delivery. Anyway, I'm here to see if anyone on the boards here have dealt with this dealer. We have a wet test planned for sometime this week, but I'd like to know whether to keep the appointment. I don't want to spend that much money and have the dealer abandon me if I have trouble (which is what almost all of the negative Yelp reviews say). Is this a good price? Is the dealer reputable? What other dealers do people on this board like in SoCal? What other tubs should I be looking at? Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi Everyone. This will be my second hot tub purchase. Previously I had a Jacuzzi 335 and I really like the power of it. There were several seats that really just knocked the crap out of me (when I had the diverters configured just right), which I really like/want. I've tried Hot Springs, but that seems like lack the power that I'm looking for. So next I tried D1, Jacuzzi, and Sundance. The Jacuzzi was OK, but I think I'd like to have a different brand this time, so that leaves it between D1 and Sundance. For D1, I'm considering the Amore Bay, which seems like it is one of their top of the line models. For Sundance, I'm looking at the Aspen (880 series). The D1 sales guy keeps talking about how the combination of the ozone + UV + mineral system (Vision?) basically allows me to use little to know chlorine and still maintain a perfectly clean and balanced tub. I don't know how much of this is marketing BS vs. fact. On my old Jacuzzi, I used a Bromine system, which I thought was super easy (basically once I did the initial set-up, I just shocked it once a week and of course checked the other chemical measurements). I remember that I had decided on going with Bromine since it didn't require the daily addition of chlorine. If I went with what the D1 guy is recommending (ozone + UV + mineral), would I need or be able to use bromine? How would that work? Would the D1 method require adding something after every time I use it? Also, are there any Amore Bay or Aspen owners out there that can share their perspective on either of these two models? Thanks.
  7. After many hours of research on this site and "the other" spa site, wet testing HS Grandee, Sundance Optima, Caldera Salena and D1 Chairman, talking to 8 different dealers, we purchased a D1 Nautilus today (our first hot tub) as it fit us both best with its' his and her corner seats. I'm 6'3", she's 5'7" and found the same seats in the Chairman to fit us best of the 4 tubs we wet tested. All dealers are different and must say we were most satisfied with these particular HS and D1 dealers with their long years selling their brands and professional selling skills. The tub is available now but the deck and tub pad must be built. I hope to be soaking before Halloween, just in time for the long, cold and white winters here in NH. Thanks to all for their contributions to this site that ultimately helped us with our decision. I'm sure i will be back to this site many more times researching water care advice.
  8. Hi, I have a 2004 D1 chairman spa and the recirculation pump has been replaced four times in the last two years. The recirc. pump will randomly just stop working and the pump heats up about every 6 months. The thermal protection on the pump is connected to the heater assembly and I have rewired the recirc. pump for the 120V system per D1 instructions (240V is not available anymore). The recirc. pump failure never occurs when I am refilling the spa. It's usually within a month or two the control panel lights start blinking and I see the recirc. pump not working. I have reset the GFCI main circuit breaker for one minute and even replaced the breaker with no luck. The water is crystal clear. I clean the filters and inner screen every month. The recirc. pump just went out a couple of weeks ago and I was going to have a D1 repair to diagnosis the situation in a few weeks. Low and behold, I open the spa today and the recirc. pump is working and the warning lamps have stopped blinking. The spa is working fine for now. Does anybody know what is causing the problem? Thanks for your help
