  1. Hello. I am new to this forum and also a fairly new hot tub owner. I am having trouble with my chlorine levels, specifically getting rid of combined chlorine. For the first couple months I was just using non-chlorine shock and a chlorine floating thing. After doing more research I realized I should also be using chlorine shock. So last night my FC was at 5.0 and by CC was at 1.2. I threw in 2 Tbs of Dichlor (that’s how much the instructions said to use to get my FC to 12) and left the jets on and lid off for an hour. 12 hours later I tested it and my FC is at 11.2 and CC is 2.4. Why has my CC doubled? I thought the shock was supposed to kill it?

  3. We currently have an above ground, 500 gal hot tub with ozonator. It's only 4 months old. When we first got it, we did the Ahsome flush. The last new/clean fill we did was about a month ago, and things were going really well. We use 10% sodium hypochlorite to sanitize. CC was consistently at .5 or below. With this last fill, I tested the overnight demand and there was a 60% loss. I think, due to the ozonator, this hot tub has a high chlorine demand. My husband and some friends hung out in the hot tub last weekend for hours and didn't replenish any of the chlorine. The next day, I tested and FC was 0, CC was 1. The water was also very cloudy. so I thought I would try to SLAM. I've been doing it for 3 days now keeping it at 13ppm (as best as I can). The water has cleared up and is no longer cloudy. Initially, I was losing 5ppm chlorine every hour. Now, it's about 1-2ppm every 3 hours. Unfortunately the CC is still somewhere between .5 and 1ppm (I'm using the Taylor K-2006 kit, at the 10ml level). Am I understanding this correctly, I keep chlorine levels up until CC drops below .5ppm? Thanks! pH = 7.4 CYA = 30 Temp = 96%F
  4. I don't know if this is possible, but is there a way of measuring the MPS just by measuring the combined chlorine? I know the MPS show up as CC in a DPD test. I'm using mainly MPS in my hot tup right now and doing a chlorine chock every 14 days, so far so good. I've ordered the Lamotte ColorQ 7 (liquids) to keep track of the water. If it's possible, what ppm is recommended to have in a hot tub and is there some kind of convert table from CC to MPS?
