  1. I have a Hot Springs Grandee that is about 3-4 years old. I have been using the same chemicals in it since i got it. (dealer suggested). My wife rarely gets in because she has sensitive skin and breaks out itching and red skin. Even I find it really drying my skin out. I am using: Freshwater continuous silver ion cartridge , SpaGuard Enhanced Shock, SpaGuard Shock-Oxidizer plus their Stain and Scale and PH Decreaser. Those are all I use. Does anyone have suggestions for better results and works with Hot Spring Spas?
  2. Hello i am wondering if there are any chemicals that are recommended you should wait to swim after you put them in? We use bromine, I am only at my bf’s house on the weekends and I am the one that maintains the chemicals. I need to lower the alkalinity in the tub but I also want to use the tub while I’m here. How long should I wait?
  3. In an effort to save money as the cost of replastering is expensive, I've recently decided to apply an epoxy paint to my 11,000 gallon in ground pool. It looks great and so far so good, it cost about $600 for supplies and prepping vs. quotes of $4,500 - $7,000 to replaster. My question is what chemicals to use in the water. I've heard differing opinions on di-chloro, tri-chloro and cal hypo to regulate chlorine in the water. I live in Las Vagas and the days are hot and sunny. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with what chlorine/shock chemicals are best in an epoxy painted pool?
  4. Hi all, I am a newbie to hot tubs, I have had my 1500L hot tub set up for just over a week now and already I have had to do a water change due to a film which leaves grease on my hand constantly appearing on the water no matter what. When I do a water test the PH is fine, Total alkalinity is fine and chlorine is fine. However every morning when I do a test the chlorine has completely disappeared and I have to put a dosage of chlorine in the water again. It still does the same thing even after a complete water change. It also seems to be leaving a sticky scummy scale round the side of the hot tub sides and I am constantly having to wipe this away. The water is also slighty cloudy, has a slight tint to it. I am not sure what the problem is, or what I am doing wrong that could be causing this ongoing problem. I hope someone can help me out! All help would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Luke. More Information: The chemicals I am using are or have are: Chlorine Granules, PH Plus, PH Minus and I also have some ANTI-FOAM.
  5. Hi. I'm new here. I've been reading all the posts and learning a lot, but I'll admit I'm pretty confused and not sure if some of the things I've read applies to my situation. We bought a used tub last month. We cleaned it well (we think) and filled it up. We had ordered a starter kit of chemicals from SpaDepot and between those and the tub instructions/paperwork, started adding things: alkaline decreaser, PH down, bromine etc. Our 1st problem we ran into was that we did not know that we had to add both the bromine and the spa shock too. After a visit to the local pool store we learned that other brands have the bromine/shock mixed and ours did not. That is why even after putting in almost 1/2 a container of bromine, it still registered 0 on the test strip. We added the Shock and Voila! it's where its supposed to be. We also have a bromine floater and have to fill that about 1x a week. Our main problems/questions right now seem to be: 1. We are using AquaChek test strips. Are they good? Accurate? Sometimes we are guessing if the colors match the ones on the bottle. 2. I've read about the Taylor tester.... more info pls. Does that give you readings digitally? What is a good/basic model to start with? 3. I think (according to the test strip) that the Alkaline and PH levels are on the low side of normal. I put in some ALK increaser, will that raise the PH a bit as well? I'm going to test again tomorrow to check, if not I guess I'll put in some PH up. 4. Water appears slightly murky/cloudy. Could that be caused by Alk/ph levels being off? I have a clarifier, do you recommend I put some of that in? 5. It foams up quite a bit when we turn on the air --- but I just finished reading on there about the swimsuits/laundry soap issue ---- duhhhh. But I washed the suits to get the bromine smell out ---- now I have to stop washing them to keep the foam out of the spa. Does anyone know of a wash/rinse for suits that won't cause the spa to foam? Do you recommend a de-foamer? 6. I honestly feel like i'm constantly dumping stuff in and pretty soon I'lll have more "stuff" than water. We are also looking in to getting a Spa Frog stick. The guy at our local pool/spa store only sells the Nature2 which will not work with bromine. But he says when one uses a mineral stick like this, then the test strip readings will be off. Will it just be the bromine readings that are off? or the Alk/PH readings too? If that makes the bromine readings off, how would I know when to add more? 7. The tub has an ozonator. I've read those only last so many years. The tub is 2 years old. How do I test if it is working? How will I know if it quits working? As you can see I'm a complete newbie..... but we're eager to learn. We are not looking for the fix it/forget it thing - but a simple yet reliable method to know that our hot tub is clean and safe. Thanks for your help!
  6. Okay, I am new to the hot tub world, but have purchased a 2003 HS Sovereign and need to know what chemicals I need and if there is a good (less expensive) online option for purchasing these. I am about an hour away from the nearest dealer so need to be able to do as much as possible on my own. Also, I saw where specific brands are referenced. Are there less expensive subs that can be used or do I need to stick the specific brands noted? Thank you so much in advance!!
