Hello- This is my first post – hoping for a little advice Recently, the Balboa circuit board in my 2007 Great Lakes GL3 tub fried at the heater connection point. I think I ordered a comparable replacement (photo provided), although I was looking at the provided hot sheet and uncertain if it is the correct one. I also bought a replacement 5.5KW heater element – I didn’t get a chance to test the old one, but I’m certain I damaged the original one when I removed it. The sheet that came with the circuit board (photo provided) shows PN G4152-01 VS501Z. The new board – printed on the board shows P/N 22972_E2 VS500Z (which is very similar to the printing on the original board, P/N 22972 Rev C), and in the same photo on the left, there is a sticker showing S/N G1152-01 and VS501Z. I’m guessing the S/N G1152-01 is similar to a PN, but I’m not certain. I believe my system is 240V, by the installed sheet and the test results that were attached to the control system (photo attached). I recall the electrician installing a 240V circuit and breaker for the tub when we bought it (used) in 2014. Last year, I replaced the original single 2-speed pump (240V) with an identical pump. I have a few questions: 1) The new sheet (labeled G4152-01) shows switch 10 on, rather than off (it was off on the original board), and it came preset as on. The instructions say that 10 should only be off with a 120V pump, and mine is a 240V pump. My uncertainty resided in the difference between the sheet being G4152-01 and the label on the new board showing S/N G1152-01. Online, I have not been able to find a sheet for G1152-01. I don’t want to damage the board choosing the wrong setting. Any insights are appreciated. 2) The new board comes with jumpers (black) between J74 and W10, and between J46 and W3, neither of which were present on the original board. The connections are there, but no jumpers between them. Is it ok to remove them, or should I leave them alone? Also the new board came with three white jumpers all connected to white AC, and I moved them to red AC to match what was on the original board, and from what I’ve read, white AC is for 120V components whereas red AC is for 240V components, which I feel I have. I’m pretty confident I got that right, but if not, I’d appreciate knowing. Thanks for any comments and suggestions!

So we are trying to start our hot tub after a couple of years of it being off. We filled it with water to prime it, we tried turning it on on the fuse panel. We get a code of the top screen panel saying “Pr” and the heater is making a clicking sound like a turn signal in a car. VS501 Balboa IMG_3394.MP4

Ok, So my wife decided we needed to get this used hot tub from her friend, long story short, I poured a slab and moved this thing to my backyard. Wired, and found/fixed leaks. Replaced 1 bad pump. (waterway executive 56 5hp Both are 2 speed.) Ok, so no Idea of the manufacturer, Cover around the filters says "Phoenix Spas" Control says Balboa The Spa Pack is a VS501z by Balboa. The heater is an M7 style SO... hopefully these are most of the details needed. I'm a plumber so I understand pumps and what not. Issue #1 The pump connected to the heater, is that supposed to be the Circ or the Pump 1? I would think it should be the Circ to move the water around thru the heater, but I'm not an expert. The new pump I installed was originally plugged in the Circ port on the board. However this pump wont run of the control panel. I know the spa heater works, tested and had the spa up to temp at 1 point of time. Now its acting goofy. I have no history on this tub, but know I can fix about anything with a little direction. Any suggestions or ideas? Jeff

My hot tub is making me crazy... I have a Calspa 2100 built in 2001 that had some weirdness going on... the jets button stopped working on my control pad (thus could not use hot tub with pump in high speed), I could only change temp to kick in low speed... (I could manually put the pump in high speed by engaging high speed relay). A new control pad was going to be a couple of hundred.. but because of it's age there was a chance the board was having issues.. so I changed the entire control pack. (besides button issue the hot tub was working). I installed a Balboa Spa Control System 54220-Z (VS501Z). I also replaced the original dually pump (it was so loud that it probably needed new bearings etc), I assumed a new pump would be more efficient and quieter. I purchased a Waterway 56 series executive pump. Part Number:3721621-1D Following the recommendations found online; I joined the TWO suction pipes together and they feed into suction side of pump. I joined the TWO return pipes together, and they split after the heater. The pump I just purchased will only run about a minute on low speed and turns itself off... it runs only about 10 seconds on high speed and turns it self off. My neighbor is an electrician and verified that the pump is wired correctly. My power is via 50 amp breaker via 6 guage wires to spa disconnect 50 amp GFCI, 6 guage wires to control pack. My electrician bypassed spa control pack and wired pump up directly to GFCI disconnect to test - pump operates the same - will only run about a minute on low speed and turns itself off... it runs only about 10 seconds on high speed and turns it self off. (we did this to see if control board was the issue) So obviously the issue is something with pump/motor. We did not test amp draw (he didn't have all of his tools at home). There is no obstruction, and the pump is moving water. We have tried with all jets open, some closed etc... and the pump has same issue. I think the motor has an issue. What other tests can I do to verify? Has anybody else had trouble replacing dually pump? Thanks, Steve

VS501Z Balboa electrical Our Balboa system did not seem to filter long enough to clear the water after chemical addition, staining the seats, floor, walls. so we decided to put a switch to activate the pump while the spaguts was off. Something went wrong with the installation and on the first activation the main fuse (30A) blew. (fuse was replaced, and all other fuses checked ok) So now upon activation the Balboa displays its ID and gets to the "PR" mode and the jets light on the panel goes on. To prime, pressing the jets button activates the relays, but not the motor. So I checked the line voltage to find that when the Balboa is powered up, the motor voltage is 120volts (shoudn't it be '0'?) When PR is showing, the voltage will go to 240, but as I say the motor will not work. Would anyone know if I may have fused the contacts on a 110V relay that goes to the low motor speed. and which relay that is. (K1, or K6, likely, but it would better to know. Is there a better analysis? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks Paul
