  1. Hey everyone, So I've been doing a good deal of research on a new spa purchase. I know I want a larger tub, that is preferably deeper(I'm a larger fella, tall and heavy, but not huge). A big plus for me in a tub is easy maintenance, with lower to no odor, and minimal skin irritation. I'd like something my girlfriend and myself can stretch out in, but also that will accommodate several people for when we have parties. I intend to build a Sauna in close-ish vicinity to the tub, not that this is all that relevant, but I'm assuming you guys and gals have more experience with this, so who knows, perhaps it's a point to be made. Anyhow, build quality and energy consumption are huge selling points for me, as I'd like a tub that is low maintenance, durable in southern Michigan winters, won't cost me a ton to maintain in both price and time, and will cause me less hassle in the long run. I know that a good relationship with a dealer is extremely important, so that aside, assuming they all give equal service, what are your thought on Models, and brands I should be looking at, methods for getting the best price, and filtration and sanitization methods and add-ons for these models, to make maintenance as easy and cost effective as possible. Also, are there any brands that simply just blow the competition out of the water in terms of any of these specifics? Thanks for your input, and try not to make this a soap box for disdain.
  2. Hi, I am new to the Spa world. Have owned in ground pools with separate in ground spa but not a portable spa. I feel the Hot Springs pricing I got is too high and hoping someone can help me. Grandee 2013 floor model $10,690 plus $1,300 ACE. $100 for upgrade to cradle 1 cover. Vanguard floor model $9295 plus $1,300 ACE. Or 5% off a 2013 special order models. What can I really expect to pay? Includes delivery and install that is it. No steps or additional chemicals.
  3. My Hot Springs Grandee was installed new in 1996 and other than the occasional fix-it visit by a spa technician, it's been working like a champ for 16 years. This past week we went to use it and found that the water was only around 95 degrees instead of its normal 103. Everything else looks completely normal. Both the red and green lights on the main panel are on, the temperature indicator says 103, pumps all work fine. I drained the spa, cleaned the filters, refilled, and turned everything back on. It heated right up to about 95 degrees and won't get any hotter. One noticeable difference is that the heater return, which normally puts out significant hot water (along with little bubbles) when the thermostat is tripped, now has a pretty anemic flow. The technician we usually use here in Northern California is booked up for two weeks and we have guests arriving this weekend. Is there a possible simple fix I'm missing, or do I just wait for the technician? Thanks.
  4. I have a Hot Springs Landmark hot tub, bought new in 2002. Not getting power to the heater. Well, first the heater relay board shorted out and blew. I bought a new heater board and installed it today, but the heater is still not working. The no fault heater seems ok, tested it with meter and got about 10 ohms between wires. The circulation pump is running. On the main board the green light is on and the red light is on. Still getting no voltage to the heater though. Could the new board be bad or maybe a relay on main board. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem. Thanks.
  5. I bought a 2000 hot springs grandee that looks to be in great shape. Im going to rebuild the pumps and change all the O rings in the valves this winter to get in ready for spring. It has a Freshwater II ozonator, 2 wavemaster 7000 pumps, silent flow 5000 circ pump, IQ 2000 control, 2003 no fault heater 6000 (must have been replaced). Is there a way to test the ozonator without water? Is there a way to clean/sanatize the plumbing system with it empty? I was even thinking of removing the Everwood shell and checking all the hidden plumbing. Ill do whatever it takes to get this puppy running perfect. Any suggestion would be great. thanks..
  6. We are new to hot tub ownership. Bought a used 2002 Hot Springs Vanguard. It took a couple weeks for the electrician to get to us and wire in the 20 and 30 amp box for power. We have noticed the tub is not heating, seems like it did early on, but it could have been the honeymoon stage we were in. We did the restart where you shut both amps off, the 20 first then the 30, let it sit for about 25 min and then turned on the 30, the jets would not work unless the 20 was on also. So now we are thinking the electrician maybe wired it wrong? Our outside temps have been 100 or higher, right now the tub water is 90. Not sure if there is anything we can check ourselves? Looks like maybe the heater is different, we found no reset button on it and there are extra screw holes on the floor of the base where the pump is. Also I am thinking the board may have been upgraded a year or two ago. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer. Happy 4th of July.
  7. I have started a new thread, so I apologize if I have duplicated what I have said in other threads, but here is the problem: After turning on the breakers at the sub-panel, with or without jets running, the unit shuts down and the ready light flashes on the main display panel. This happens with and without filters. The breaker doesn't trip, but the only way to restart the spa is to turn the breaker off and back on again. There is a slight hum coming from the circ pump. I dont' know if this is normal, but a small stream of water shoots back into the filter compartment, so I'm not sure if this is from the ozonator or an overflow of the circ pump. We had a technician look at it (when it was wired wrong) but he couldn't figure out why it wouldn't heat. He thought it was wired wrong but my husband kept insisting that there are only supposed to be 3 wires hooked up, so that didn't help the technician (especially since my husband was wrong). Without the heater hooked up, the jets run fine and everything seems to be working (except the heater, since it wasn't wired). I don't know if you can normally see water coming out of the heater return/drain, but we don't see anything, and as mentioned before, the only movement we can see is in the filter compartment (even when jets aren't running). We have hard water, and based on what was mentioned in another thread, the sizzling in the heater sounds like there is little or no flow. This is what the technician did: Took off one end of the pump to see if there was an air lock, none, then checked the opposite end of the heater for an air lock, and again none. He opened both drains, nothing there either. He checked the suction where the grey standpipe is, and there is suction there, so does that mean the pump is working? Also, he checked the voltage of the heater (none because it was wired wrong), and he also took off the heater relay board to see if anything was fried behind it. We also put a plastic bag over the drain but nothing, so my guess is a blockage. I will call him back, to check the suggestions made by PreservedSwine, but wonder if there's something that I can do in the meantime. Note that after he left, I put a garden hose down the grey standpipe in case there was an air lock somewhere else and nothing happened, the spa still shuts off after about 30 seconds. Thanks.
  8. Hi everyone: We just moved a hot tub, ran new wires, filled it up and thought it was working fine, until it didn't heat up. I have been reading posts online about what to do and I am completely lost. One thread I read says to press the red reset button on the heater but I can't find one. Also, the electrician isn't completely sure if it's hooked up correctly because what is in the panel doesn't exactly match what's in the manual and the cover of the panel is a little confusing. All jets as well as the light work. There are also lights on the circuit board. The power light is green and the heater light is red (nothing is flashing). We cleaned the filters, the weir gate is working fine, and the circulation pump seems to be working as there is a slight vibration on it and on the heater. The water just doesn't seem to be moving around in the tub. When it first had power, some cloudy water poured out of the drain and it seemed to be circulating. What can I try to narrow down what the problem is? I have a picture but don't know how to paste it on here. If this helps, there are 3 wires coming out of the deck, black wire is hot and is in #2, red wire is hot and is in #4, and blue wire is neutral and is in #5...is this right? Note that this spa is in Canada so I think the wire colours are slightly different for hot and neutral. I am extremely clueless when it comes to this spa so I would really appreciate anyone's help!! Thank you.
  9. I have a Hot Springs Envoy spa that is about 7 years old. It has a minor leak. Due to the location of the tub on my deck and the remote location of my home, the labor repair cost alone will be about $4,000 (removal of the deck railing, crane, etc.). I had a technician come out and look they can only access the front panel where all of the pumps and control panel are located. They do not see a leak at the pumps. As a last resort, I am going to try a liquid stop leak in a bottle product. Has anybody had any experience (success?) with this type of repair? I have looked at several brands: Fix a leak “The Orginal” by Marlig Industries, Pool and Spa Leak fix, Watertite Leak Stopper for Spa./Pool, Leisure Time Stop Leak. Surprisingly the Marlig product gets rave reviews online. I am only interested in feedback from people who have used this type of products. As I stated the labor and equipment rental to repair the tub will be over $4,000. This is a last ditch effort. If it doesn't work I will be investing in a new hot tub. Any feedback regarding the leak in a bottle repair would be greatly appreciated. HELP!!!!
  10. I'm in the market for my first hot tub and there is a classified listing in my city for a 2004 Hot Springs Vista. I emailed the owner who sent photos. It appears to be in really great shape. She said it is in excellent condition, rarely used, and has new cover and head rests. My question is, what is a fair price range for this? I'll have to pay to move it as well, so just trying to get thoughts on what I should pay given the inherent risks of purchasing a used, non-warrantied spa. Any advice is much appreciated.
  11. Hello everyone, I am a fairly new user who has been reading many articles on here for a few years. I am just about to make a purchase on a hot tub and can use some advice. I have been considering a Limelight Pulse and a Jacuzzi J-365. We wet tested the jacuzzi and liked the feel a lot, and liked the appearance moderately. All dealers in our area are unable to let us wet test a Pulse as they either dont have any, or the ones they have are sold and cant be filled. To get the Pulse we would have to order without a wet test. We like the Pulse looks better, but are not sure about the feel. The dealer who we would purchase from has told us Jacuzzi jets have less pressure and therefore for my wife who is sensitive to the feel, would like the Jacuzzi better. Would everyone agree with that? What are everyones thoughts in regards to quality J365 vs Pulse? The deal we have on the J365 is: $9100 + tax, includes: delivery (we are 1.5 hrs away), hook up and filling with water, orientation, spa lifter, steps, and chemicals. Thoughts? Thanks in advance everyone!
