  1. Hi All, I've got an older Thermospa in which the 'finish' on the foam headrests is in rough shape. It looks like they were originally coated with some kind of paint, but in many places that finish is worn off and I can feel the exposed spongy material below. They have some mildew staining as well in places and I'm hesitant to use standard mildew products to try and clean it up before I understand if I can refinish them in some way. Structurally they are in good shape, it's just the finish that is the issue. I have found some new ones for sale but they are $50-$75 each and there are 6 in the tub. Does anyone know of a path to restoration for these? Thanks, Rob
  2. After doing the decontamination procedure twice and the high sanitizer procedure once, once we balanced the final fill, there was no foam during running the jets. However, as soon as we got in, the foam started. It wasn't bad enough to make us want to get out, and the foam immediately dissolved after we turned off the jets/blower. So I'm guessing it is due to our clothing? Also we use one of those zorbo sponges, after 3 uses it's still new looking. After the first dip I started just throwing our towels and swimwear in the washer on rinse only, but so far there is no change. I also did a TSP soak of the filter for an hour, rinsed it well, followed by a muriatic acid dip and rinse too. My question is - is there a way to get rid of the foam without draining? I've tried Spa Selections Foam Out, which only dissolves it for a brief bit of time, under an hour. My other question is - If it has to do with clothing, why have I never experienced foaming at hotels and apartments? That gets many uses and many types of clothing. Just curious. Thanks!
  3. I'm a new hot tub user and for about a week now I've been having an issue of just above 0ppm bromine levels, my pH and TA are completely fine and in the correct range although the bromine is next to nothing, I have a Sundance Optima 880 and I tried using the Brominator and a floating dispenser both together and one at a time and neither has fixed my issue and now just yesterday when the jets are on the hot tub starts to create foam. During the refilling stage I used infused bromine granules as I heard this is something you're supposed to use to boost the bromine upon refill, this worked and I had high bromine levels although they naturally ended up dropping. I've tried, refilling the water, using non-chlorine shock treatment, cleaning the filter with a filter cleaner hose attachment
  4. Hi all. I just changed the water in my Tropic Seas spa (375 gallon, 6 seater) and when I turn the ozonator on, the water foams up. I am using a Nature2 spa stick and bromine along with Cense. I havent always had this foaming issue. I cleaned the spa after draining it. Filled it as I always have, test strips indicate everything in the recommended ranges. Any idea on this? Would love to be able to use the ozonator without this foam. I know some bubbles are expected because its air blowing through the water, but it foams up. Once the ozonator is off, it does disappear relatively quickly. Any help or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!
  5. Whenever I turn on my jets my hot tub ends up looking like a bubble bath full of fizzy foam. Not just a little bit either, I'd probably be ok with that, but it ends up getting like 4 to 5 inches thick across the entire surface. If I turn off the jets, the foam starts to go away and after about 5 to 10 minutes the water is back to being crystal clear with no foam at all. I've done some reading and have tried a few things, but all to no avail. The only thing I haven't done is a drain and refill only because I just did it about a month ago and don't want to have to do it again so soon. I don't think my well pump can handle draining and refilling this thing every month. We use it about 2 times a week, or less, and its usually just 2 people. My water test results are below. All the levels seem ok to me, but there's gotta be something I'm missing. I'll also use Leisure Time 'Enzyme' and 'Bright & Clear' sometimes, as needed. Please take a look and let me know if you have any ideas...thanks! Hardness - 280 ppm pH - 7.7 TA - 90 ppm TDS - 590 ppm Sanitizer (MPS) - within 'OK' range
  6. After a month our new 245 Jacuzzi is getting foam. What causes this and how does one prevent it ... as opposed to just buying Anti Foam additive
  7. The day before Thanksgiving our new 420 Gallon spa arrived. We are quite excited, but I am struggling with getting the water right. It does have an ozonator (but how the hell do you tell if it's working?!?!?). I am using the Spa Frog floater system (bromine). Startup/Fill: Filled tub from the hose Heated the tub overnight Put in the Spa Frog "jump start" capsules I opened the Spa Frog mineral and bromines to 6 and floated them in the tub After the fill I couldn't get my alkanlinity over about 60 without PH spiking to 7.8 or higher. CH was low so I added the stuff the spa store gave me to bump it up to 160-170 consistently. PH has been staying 7.4-7.6. Here's where I am struggling: FOAM! We have a good amount of foam that I can't seem to knockdown What do add - how much of the MPS "shock" do I add, and when? The container (Amerse) says 2 ounces per 300 gallons weekly or after every use. I have a friend with the same tub that never adds it and his water is fine - mine has been a little cloudy. I used the tub on Monday of this week and then added a half-dose of the MPS. I was out of town until yesterday and when I got home my water was cloudy, there was a residue at the waterline and it smelled like chemicals. Immediately tested and PH was a little low and bromine was .1. I shocked with MPS and bromine spiked to 9.1 before we had to head out to dinner reservations (i am sure it went over 10ppm) What do I use: ColorQ Test Kit Amerse chemicals Spa Frog Am I just not adding enough MPS after each use? My wife and I probably spend 4 nights a week in the tub, 30 minutes at a go. So that's 4 hours of use weekly. Do I really need to add 3 ounces of MPS after each use, or once I get this damn thing stabilized can I do weekly treatments? I thought the Spa Frog was supposed to make life easier... THANKS!
  8. Hi all, I am a newbie to hot tubs, I have had my 1500L hot tub set up for just over a week now and already I have had to do a water change due to a film which leaves grease on my hand constantly appearing on the water no matter what. When I do a water test the PH is fine, Total alkalinity is fine and chlorine is fine. However every morning when I do a test the chlorine has completely disappeared and I have to put a dosage of chlorine in the water again. It still does the same thing even after a complete water change. It also seems to be leaving a sticky scummy scale round the side of the hot tub sides and I am constantly having to wipe this away. The water is also slighty cloudy, has a slight tint to it. I am not sure what the problem is, or what I am doing wrong that could be causing this ongoing problem. I hope someone can help me out! All help would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards Luke. More Information: The chemicals I am using are or have are: Chlorine Granules, PH Plus, PH Minus and I also have some ANTI-FOAM.
  9. Hi all, I see a lot of posts on the forum about ways to reduce foaming due to lotions coming off skin, detergent coming off bathing suits etc. but was wondering what could be used (and if safe to use) a product that will create copious amounts of foam? I have a 2001 Sovereign Hot Spring spa pool. Just seems like it would be fun on some occasions to add a safe product to the water to make lots of foam.
  10. Hi. I'm new here. I've been reading all the posts and learning a lot, but I'll admit I'm pretty confused and not sure if some of the things I've read applies to my situation. We bought a used tub last month. We cleaned it well (we think) and filled it up. We had ordered a starter kit of chemicals from SpaDepot and between those and the tub instructions/paperwork, started adding things: alkaline decreaser, PH down, bromine etc. Our 1st problem we ran into was that we did not know that we had to add both the bromine and the spa shock too. After a visit to the local pool store we learned that other brands have the bromine/shock mixed and ours did not. That is why even after putting in almost 1/2 a container of bromine, it still registered 0 on the test strip. We added the Shock and Voila! it's where its supposed to be. We also have a bromine floater and have to fill that about 1x a week. Our main problems/questions right now seem to be: 1. We are using AquaChek test strips. Are they good? Accurate? Sometimes we are guessing if the colors match the ones on the bottle. 2. I've read about the Taylor tester.... more info pls. Does that give you readings digitally? What is a good/basic model to start with? 3. I think (according to the test strip) that the Alkaline and PH levels are on the low side of normal. I put in some ALK increaser, will that raise the PH a bit as well? I'm going to test again tomorrow to check, if not I guess I'll put in some PH up. 4. Water appears slightly murky/cloudy. Could that be caused by Alk/ph levels being off? I have a clarifier, do you recommend I put some of that in? 5. It foams up quite a bit when we turn on the air --- but I just finished reading on there about the swimsuits/laundry soap issue ---- duhhhh. But I washed the suits to get the bromine smell out ---- now I have to stop washing them to keep the foam out of the spa. Does anyone know of a wash/rinse for suits that won't cause the spa to foam? Do you recommend a de-foamer? 6. I honestly feel like i'm constantly dumping stuff in and pretty soon I'lll have more "stuff" than water. We are also looking in to getting a Spa Frog stick. The guy at our local pool/spa store only sells the Nature2 which will not work with bromine. But he says when one uses a mineral stick like this, then the test strip readings will be off. Will it just be the bromine readings that are off? or the Alk/PH readings too? If that makes the bromine readings off, how would I know when to add more? 7. The tub has an ozonator. I've read those only last so many years. The tub is 2 years old. How do I test if it is working? How will I know if it quits working? As you can see I'm a complete newbie..... but we're eager to learn. We are not looking for the fix it/forget it thing - but a simple yet reliable method to know that our hot tub is clean and safe. Thanks for your help!
  11. So I was cleaning the foam of some leaking jets and then I came across a lower jet where the foam had solidified or gotten hard. I’m wondering if it might be an old leak where the chemicals may have hardened it. Is that possible or was there something wrong with the mixture when originally sprayed?
