I have a 230-gallon spa, and I started it as a chlorine tub. I ran it that way for, say, 1.5 years. Then, I wanted to switch to bromine, and I found an article saying that to make the switch, simply stop using chlorine tabs and start using bromine tabs, which I did about a year ago, and I’ve had only one issue since: a little algae, but that's long gone now.
That said, I just found two statements in a post here (https://www.poolspaforum.com/forum/index.php?/topic/52138-bromine-use-in-spas/) saying that “bromine tablets alone will not sanitize the water without a bromide reserve to work with” and that “sodium bromide cannot be tested with a bromine test kit or strips.”
Question 1: Do you think I should add some kind of bromine bank, just to be safe? Or am I okay with bromine tabs alone?
Also, for shock I want to stop using MPS and start using regular Clorox bleach. I found a statement in a different post here saying to add 1 cup of regular Clorox for a 400-gallon tub, but it’s not clear whether that means after every soak or once a week. And I alone use my tub, every day for 45 minutes to an hour, and, again, my tub is 230 gallons.
Question 2: Should I use 0.575 cups (is to 230 gallons as 1 cup is to 400) of regular Clorox bleach after every soak? Or once per week? Or some other regimen?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
