I have a Hayward TriStar 950 VS pump, a Hayward SwimClear Lg Cap 425 sq.ft. cartridge filter, and SGS Breeze 540 salt chlorinator. I get so many opinions from pool maintenance people, pool builders, suppliers, etc., as to what PSI my 10,000 gal pool in Arizona ought to be reading. From one guy who said just run it at max speed 10-12 hrs/day (why have a VS pump instead a less expensive single speed then?) all the way down to ones that say run at the minimum you can get so long as it "turns the water over at least once a day." Great! How do I figure that one out?
Anyway, I have found one pump speed setting where it allows the PSI gauge to sit at exactly 18, as long as it runs at that speed. Fiddling with the settings and lowering the speed later in the day will lower the PSI to between 8 and 10.
So, how do I know what speed setting is best for my pool if the PSI reading appears to be wholly dependent on the exact speed I set my pump?
