  1. Belated Merry Christmas! Newbie here replacing an old single speed pentair pump with a new variable speed model and I want to make sure I get the "right" size. I've read conflicting information about not buying a too powerful motor. I certainly don't want to overspend if I don't have to. Also it's near impossible for me to calculate the head based on what I've read on the information I need to do so. Best I have to go off of is the existing pump model I'm replacing. It's a 1.5 HP, 3450 RPM, 230V Pentair (7-177451-03 / E44549). My in-ground pool is 21,000 gallons as best I can calculate with 2" pipes coming in and out of pump. Any advice on what approach to take in getting a "right" sized variable speed pump replacement would be very much appreciated. Thank you! Jason
