  1. They shouldn't have to touch the filter cycles. The only reason they use the filter cycles is to be a "heat mode" for the economy mode. When the spa is in Economy mode, the tub will only heat during these heat cycles. Yes, both pumps bypass the filter. So having them running adds no extra filtration.
  2. What kind of transformer does your spa have? Follow the black and red wires from the white plug on the board back to the transformer to find out which company made it. If it is an Excellent brand transformer, get it replaced. Also, on the board, just make sure that the capacitors are flat on the top, not rounded over.
  3. The filter cycles are being phased out. On your spa, the only time a filter cycle will actually do anything is at 12pm. At that point it will turn each of the pumps on for a few minutes. Other than that, all the filtering is done by the circulation pump.
  4. When a Sweetwater starts up, it dislays "888", then the revision number, in this case 3.56, and then starts up. I would check the board to look for blown caps. (They are soda can looking things that stick straight out of the board. )
  5. There was never a recall, but they were one of those things that if you saw it out in the field, it was supposed to be replaced. It can cause weird issues like the ones you are having.
  6. When the control panel "goes dim," is there any display at all? On a Sundance Optima, there are no 110v components. If the tub is only getting 110v, it will normally go into "lock" mode and won't be able to unlock. If there is no display when it goes out, your tub may be going into watchdog mode and then the lines are fading out. It could be as simple as a temperature sensor. A couple of other things to check: 1) The 2 capacitors on the circuit board near the Eprom (probably says 9.50B on the eprom). They look like small soda cans sticking straight out of the board. Make sure they are flat on top, not popped up. 2) The transformer. Inside with the circuit board is the transformer. It has yellow, blue, black, and red wires coming out of it. See if you can figure out which brand of transformer it is. If it is an "excellent" brand transformer, it should be replaced. (oh the irony) 3) Does the tub have a CD ozonator? If so, try unplugging that and seeing how the tub runs.
  7. If you have to press the wrong buttons to get the pumps to work, it sounds like a bad control panel.
  8. From the service side of things. for whatever unknown reason, the temp sensor seems to raise hell with the motherboard, sounds like the top-side is working fine to me, if all the pumps, light blower, ect., work it has to be a temp sensor. Sundance- most common brain scrambler =temp sensor let me know how it works out, temp sensor is easy to test, and every good service center has one in stock for this very reason. It's not the topside believe me. PS do not let them sell you a new board, the chip can be swaped out, this is what you get for not going with Balboa! lol! No. The temp sensor is not causing this problem. The temp sensor is not a "brain scrambler." All it does is read resistance. Yes, it could be the topside. Yes it could be the board. NO. It is not the temp sensor. Yes the chip can be swapped out. Will this fix the issue? Maybe. Check the capacitors right next to the chip. They should look like small soda cans. Are the tops flat? Or are they bulged out? If they are bulged out, replace the board.
  9. The display is scrolling. The tub will run fine like this, but it should be taken care of. It is either going to be a bad board or a bad topside control.
  10. They sell these at Costco in the seatle area and the optima was 8k so it seams alot cheaper then a dealer. See if you have a local Costco that may have them. If you do not want a service plan or warranty go with Cotsco. If you want your product backed up for several years go with a dealer. You are obviously not aware that the local dealers will service the spas sold through Costco as the warranty is from Sundance and they pay the local dealer for any service work needed to the spa. No Dealer is going to do work for free and no dealer will warrant a tub but rather the factory. As for the warranty it is the same as any dealer that sells the Sundance line..... I suppose you will now say that Sundance is a second rate spa now? I do not think you are aware that a dealer will not be happy to do the warranty work and will care less if it breaks down again unless they sold it. I don't think dealers are too happy about the situation either. You might see alot of dealers dropping that line or taking on another line of spas. We all know what happens when dealers switch manufacturers like underwear. Leaves an ugly taste in old customers mouths. "WE NO LONGER SERVICE THAT SPA SIIIRRRRR!" "YOU WILL HAVE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER SIIIRRRR!" Sort of like buying a spa from Cotsco to begin with. Sounds like sundance (NASCO or whatever) is desperately trying to sell more units. I can understand if they made a cheesier line like Hot Srings highlife model did for Cotsco but they took their identical spa's from my understanding and just plopped them into a hand full of Cotsco stores in essence affecting independent dealers. That is like the situation with Master spa's opening up Corporate Master Dealers right behind independent dealers stores (PA Hershey in particular of the top of my head). Alot of Dealers dropped Master spa because of that. Some people are lucky to find a place in this forum and identify with other people with similar situations. sounds like a personal problem and if you as a dealer refuse to service a spa that just goes to show you are a sore loser in the first place. Your beef is with Costco yet you think it is ok to refuse service to a customer that simply got a better price? I got it now. The beef is not with Costco, it is with ANY dealer that sells the same spa we sell and expects us to service it. Part of being a dealer is "servicing what you sell." Nowhere does it say "service what the dealer down the road sells." Yes, the customer got a better price, but what did he sacrifice to get that better price?
  11. ...and he has a HotSpring Grandee in the White House and a HotSpring Vanguard at his home in Crawford, TX! ...and he has a track record for making great decisions **Disclaimer** Im just kidding and don't want to make this a political debate **end disclaimer**
  12. The Sundance tub filters 24/7. When the tub is occupied, and the pumps are on, it is still filtering. However, the main pumps do not run water through the filter. The filtering is done with a dedicated, 35gpm pump. This move allowed Sundance to filter enough water (50k gallons per day) and remove the main restriction on therapy pumps.
  13. Bad connection. If the circuit board is not damaged, you can just crimp new connectors on the wires and the tub will be fine.
  14. I just learned that the inside nozzle of the fluid-x jets in the therapy seat of Sundance 800 series spas can be turned for a different massage. Is this something new for 2007 or do older spas have the same feature...say my 2002? All fluidix jets have an inside that can be turned. The inside nozzle of your intelli-jets can be either straight, or turned so that it rotates.
  15. The other larger jets should either shoot straight or give a wave like motion, depending on how you have the inside nozzle. The inside nozzle can also be spun so the wave can go in whichever direction you would like.
  16. They filter 50k gallons of water, UNBYPASSED, everyday. They just chose to separate the filtering from the therapy. That way your jet pressure never drops even as your filter starts to fill up. it seems to me that when your in the tub is when you need the filtered water the most If you are not running the jets, you are still filtering in a Sundance when you are in the tub. You are filtering 35GPM. If you turn the pumps on, you are still filtering. If you get in the tub, and the circulation pump is off for some reason, and you turn the jets on, the circulation pump will turn on to filter.

  18. No one else does what? Use barbs and clamps? There are plenty of spas that utilize barbs and clamps.
  19. If you open up the equipment and look at the circuit board, there is a chip on the board near the top, in the middle, that should read 1.28F or something like that. If you buy the 1.28GX chip (should be around $25), you will be able to program the circulation pump. If you press the cycle button 5 times, and it reverts back to the 1st filter cycle, you cannot program the circ. pump. If, on the 5th press, it displays "Circ", then you can press Select and adjust it.
  20. Yes, this would be a waste of bromine and water.
  21. The neutral that is supposed to be coming out of the GFCI should not be connected at all. If it is connected to the neutral on the GFCI and the ground on the spa, it will trip every time. Instead, the neutral wire should be grounded at the spa end and at the breaker box. There should be no wire hooked up to the load neutral section of the GFCI.
  22. If your tub goes down in the winter, DO NOT DRAIN IT. Cover up any vents with a heavy blanket and do not open the cover. This should keep most tubs for a day or two. Unless something actually breaks, tubs can be thawed very easily if you know what you are doing.
  23. The pressure switch is screwed into the heater tube. When you open up the control box, almost in the middle of the heater tube, there should be a switch screwed into the tube with 2 wires going to it. That is the pressure switch. You should be able to get one at any pool/spa store.
