  1. What is the difference between a controller and the board? And I'll try giving a call to tech support
  2. I tested the wire for resistance and continuity and all the wires passed. I unplugged the secondary panel but no luck as well, and I don't see any water damage. Yes It does display when I turn it on, but then it turns off (goes to sleep I'm guessing)
  3. So I just spliced the wire, and it doesn't appear it made any differences and I do not see any other bad wires
  4. If looks like the outside of the cable is slightly frayed. But should I still be able to change the temp or something on the panel? Since the buttons are on the board.
  5. So I am working on my new to me hot tub (hot springs vanguard) I needed to replace the heater and circ pump. They are now replaced and they seem to be working. But I can't turn my jets on. I'm assuming it's the control panel as of now, because I can't adjust anything on the control panel. When it turns on, it shows that it is set to 102, but then it turns off. But when I press the jet button, temp button or the light button nothing happens. Screen doesn't pop on and nothing adjusts. Is there any way to test the control panel? Oh by the way, the power light is solid red and is there any way to test pump? I would love to know if it is working
  6. Sorry If I have been confusing, I turned both breakers on, I realized the jets didn't start and it popped the breaker for the jets, so I then turned off the heater as well, I felt the heater and it got hot so I know that was working. I then tried running the tub without the heater on and the circ pump disconnected and that is when I am getting the blinking light. It makes sense if it won't run without the circ pump.plugged in, but I'm not sure if it is suppose to or not. I will try and get a new circ pump to see if it fixes the issues.
  7. Isn't the thermistor the sensor on the heater? I got new ones on my new heater and it only pops the breaker If the circ pump is plugged in. But the main jets still won't run. Sorry if I'm incorrect about the thermistor I don't know a ton about spa parts
  8. Okay just did a resistance test for the circ pump and got a nice OL, main pump was giving me 2.2 ohms and heater was 10-11ohms. I touched the terminals on the board and wasn't getting any ohms (not sure if I'm supposed to). I'm 100% sure the circ pump needs replaced I would just like to narrow down the rest as best as possible before ordering parts (also I am curious if I'm able to open up the circ pump and possibly fix anything, I like messing around with stuff and am reasonably handy)
  9. Hi, I have a new to me hot spring vanguard spa. The previous owner (family friend) said the heater stopped working and it started to look the breaker. I heater was clearly messed up, so I bought a new one and installed that, and then i hooked up all my electrical and found out it was still popping my breaker for the pumps. The heater breaker didn't pop (but I turned it off to not damage the heater). I unplugged the circ pump and the main jet pump, flipped the breaker and it didn't blow any circuits. I then plugged the circ pump in and then it DID pop the breaker. I then unplugged that and plugged in the main jet, it did not pop the breaker. But it did not run the jets at all, the main display turned off and the power light flashed. I am not sure if this is because it will not run without the circ pump or if I'm looking at 2 bad pumps or even a bad board. I have a multimeter so if there are any good tests I would be willing to try! Thanks!!
  10. Good call, I think I'll go this route. I cant find 20a or 30a GFCI breakers anyway and I purchased the 50a, but I didn't want to do it if it was unsafe. Thanks for the inline fuse idea
  11. I'm getting ready to wire my hot springs vanguard hot tub, and I have some questions regarding the wiring. I found some instructions and it lists connecting to a load center with a 30 amp and a 20 amp GFCI breakers. Then running smaller wire from the breaker to the spa. I was under the impression that I should be using a 50 amp GFCI breaker and then running 6 gauge to the spa. Am I able to do this? And then just wire tie in the smaller wires to the 6 gauge, then would then connect to the panel in the right place. Or do I need to run 5 wires with 2 different breakers at the panel? Thanks!!
  12. Yeah after I posted this, and went and looked at it some more, I realized that was a pretty dumb idea haha. The guy lost the screw on drain cap when he drained it. I might just screw a hose on and put the other end in the tub so that I can make sure there isn't anymore damage. Thanks for the idea to check.
  13. Hey guys, I got a free hot tub from an old family friend. It went on the fritz with him about 6 months ago, but he is an old guy and didn't care to attempt to fix for how little he used it, so he drained it and offer it to me. I believe it is an '08 hot spring vanguard (?) The issues he was having from his memory was the second control panel stopped working, and then he said it stopped heating up. I took a look inside, it looks like a little water was left in the heating element, froze and busted the plastic cap off. So I know it needs a new heater for sure. I was just wondering if it's best to go with the current heater or is it possible to change over to a Balboa system? We are thinking of extending our deck around it, so it would probably need a panel on the top side, but I'm not sure how that would play with the second control panel on it. Any advice/help would be great! Thank you! Below is some pictures (sorry it was before I cleaned out the inside, obviously some critters got in there) http://imgur.com/a/0Xqp8o7
