Appreciate the advice, I believe you are right. I'll have the new GFCI Monday and I'll know for sure.
If power was coming out of the GFCI, I should be able to get a reading with the tic-tracer anywhere along the power cord, correct? Its heavy duty, but I still should be able to have the tracer light up if the if the cable is energized. There isn't anything special about the cable that would make getting a reading more difficult than usual. I tried the tracer on a number of other cables that I know do work and they all lit up the tracer.
Wire terminal is accessible on the GFCI box. I checked it and the connection look fine. Can't really test the while its plugged in since the access panel is on the side flush with the outlet. If you are talking about the wire terminal inside the hot tub control panel, I tested there too and no power.
