  1. Is this the ozonator we just had installed or an electric issue?

We recently installed a Hot Spot Rhythm at our vacation rental.  As soon as the tub was installed, we began to experience issues related to the hot tub itself or its installation.

    1.  The electricians used by the company installed the wrong kind of breaker to the house and the pool pump on our in ground pool would not run.  We spent weeks and $$ getting the issue diagnosed and fixed.  (We covered those costs ourselves.)

    2.  The hot tub salesman had recommended we NOT upgrade with an ozonator, telling us that it wouldn't do anything at all to help with water quality since the tub did not run continuously.  We ended up having to refund renters for a tub that quickly became nasty since chemicals alone could not keep up with even one use.  He was not aware of the automatic cycling you can set the tub to.  I had to provide the information to him.

    3.  After complaining to the store about the condition and costs of chemicals, refilling repeatedly, and continued poor quality of the water after one use by renters, they sent a repairman out to install an ozonator.  But when he arrived, he did not bring all the needed parts and had to return during ANOTHER renter's stay to complete the job.  More money lost in more refunds to renters.

    4.  After the installation and use for less than 2 weeks, the hot tub has now stopped working.  Whenever the jets are turned on it trips the breaker for the hot tub.  More refunds to renter for loss of use of the hot tub.

    5.  And now our dealer tells us it will be 10 days before they can fix the tub.  More refunds to the next renters!

Talk about buyers remorse!  We had a 2004 HighLife that we replaced since it was requiring more repairs every year.  The nearly $10,000 purchase and installation of our new tub has cost me thousands more in lost income due to refunds to renters.  Is this the new normal?  If so, I feel we should remove the hot tub and cut our losses.

Has anyone else experienced this many issues with installation and repair on a new tub?  I know Hot Springs only allows certified dealers to install and service their tubs, but this is now part of the issue.  The service department is so backed up they can't even fix the tubs they install in a timely manner.

Is this new problem electrical (to the breaker) or the hot tub's own system due to the installation of the ozonator?  Any information or opinion would be helpful!

      Hello TikiHousePensacolaBeach

I am sorry to hear that your Hot Spot is not providing you the service and use you are looking for.  Thank you for the detailed account of your spa that was very helpful.

The first thing I noticed is that you had a Highlife spa before. The Highlife and Hot Spot models function a bit differently. The Highlife having a circulation pump allows the spa to move the water without creating too much heat. The Hot Spot can be programed  for longer filter times but that can increase the spa temperature and cause the spa to trip. Since the filtering is being done by the jet pump versus a circulation pump.

Since you Hot Spot is being used in a rental home I imagine that renters are not checking the spa as an owner would. For example the condition of the filters, that can also be a reason why your spa is tripping. They should be cleaned frequently  based on the amount of use. I know that you have had a Hot Spring spa before however, the Hot Spot (Value line) does not have all the bells and whistles as the Hightlife line does.

This does not mean the Hot Spot is not a good spa it just will need a little more TLC for the amount of use it is getting.

For your set up I would recommend managing your water twice a week and filter cleaning after each renter.  Depending on your weather  (if its hot) I would lessen the filter cycles to prevent overheating or tripping.

Since the Ozone was installed has that helped with water care?

I see that you have had to be an advocate for your spa and I am sorry for all of the frustration. If there is anything I can do to help, please contact us at 800-999-4688 ext 8432.

Thank you for being a loyal Hot Spring owner.

  2. @mreidy1 @dr.spaWe just last year purchased the same tub. The sales guy told us the Ozonator was a waste of money and talked us out of it. We are now getting it put on since the tub has a hard time keeping up with our renters. (He knew this was a vacation rental too!) Have you had any issues? Any advise for how long the ozonator needs to run to make any difference?
  3. @PreservedSwine Thank you so much for this answer! Even the spa guy who sold me the tub said this didn't know how to set these! And the manual? Ha!
