  1. Mike - If you can't afford a new cover, go to Home Depot and get a 4x8 sheet or two of 1-1/2 or 2 inch thick styrofoam board (about $20 apiece) - they sell it near the insulation. Cut it to match the outline of the top of your spa (butt two sheets together if you need to), then attach it to the bottom of your plywood (use a thick-bodied adhesive construction adhesive, or silicone rubber). Voila, a cheap cover with good insulation.
  2. I'm not an electrician, so take this as the advice of a random person on the internet. The solution is to throw away the old GFCI, and install a GFCI in the circuit breaker panel of the same amperage as the current circuit breaker. It'll cost you $50-$100, but it's the modern and safest approach. If "replace circuit breaker" is not one of your strengths, call an electrician to do it for you - maybe another $50-$100. You really don't want to have a spa without it being protected by a good GFCI. Jersey Hot Tub's suggested solution is similar - it's a new box that you'd mount near the spa. Run the wires from the main breaker panel into the new box (with a built-in GFCI), run wires out of the new box to the spa, and you're good to go.
  3. Okay, I resolved my problem, and I'll post it here for posterity. There is a Jacuzzi "Standard Troubleshooting Approach" manual. I found a copy HERE. suitable to my model year. 5.7 Programming Control Panel With Service Jumper Installed Signaturing the Circuit Board: In addition to programming the TIME OF DAY and FILTER CYCLES (page 24), four additional parameters can be programmed with the service jumper JP9 #1 installed (fi g, 13): MONTH, DAY, YEAR and DAY OF WEEK. These parameters are programmed immediately following the MINUTES in the setup menu. To program MONTH, DAY, Year and DAY OF WEEK Press DISPLAY, MODE and DISPLAY buttons within 5 seconds of each other. A number representing the current HOUR will display, followed by AM or PM. Press DISPLAY button once to advance to the MINUTES display. Press DISPLAY button once to advance to the date display. A number representing the current MONTH is now displayed (example: January=01). Press WARMER or COOLER to adjust the displayed MONTH. Press DISPLAY button once to advance to DAY of month. Press WARMER or COOLER to adjust displayed DAY of month. Press DISPLAY button once to advance to YEAR display. Press WARMER or COOLER to adjust displayed YEAR. Press DISPLAY button once to advance to DAY OF WEEK display. Press WARMER or COOLER to adjust displayed DAY OF WEEK. (Example: Sunday=1, Monday=2.) Press DISPLAY button once or wait 5 seconds to return to the actual water temperature display.
  4. I have a 2004 J-385. A bit different, but the same general age. Your understanding of Standard/Economy matches mine - it shouldn't turn on to heat the water except during the programmed cycles when it's in Economy mode. That's how mine works. In Standard mode, anytime the water temperature drops, pump 1 will turn on to heat the water. The Circulation pump is programmed separately. It doesn't pay attention to the Standard/Economy setting, and it Doesn't run the heater. It's whole purpose is simply to circulate the water, especially if you have an ozonator on the Jacuzzi. If a lot of people use the Jacuzzi and you have an Ozonator, Jacuzzi recommends that you just set it to run 24 hours a day. If you don't have an ozonator (or the ozonator is dead), you can probably set it to not run at all and it won't affect the water quality. So, I think the Jacuzzi is operating normally - pump 1 came on at 6:00 PM and ran for 30 minutes, heating the water, then it turned off. The Circulation pump also came on at 6:00PM, and ran until 9:00 PM because you have it programmed to run for three hours. When you came out at 8:15, you saw the circ pump running and the water was hot from the 6:00-6:30 cycle.
  5. I have a 2004 Jacuzzi J-385. One of it's features is that it auto-adjusts the time for Daylight Savings Time. This is great, except: 1. I live in Arizona and we don't do Daylight Savings Time 2. I have a Time-Of-Use electric plan, and I'd rather not have it self-adjust itself to come on during peak periods. Our peak period is changing to 8:00 PM, which could conflict with where I want the Jacuzzi to start up and top off the heat in the winter. 3. It must know what the date is in order to jump forward/back, but the manual doesn't say a word about changing the date. I've tried punching random buttons, but couldn't find anything that got me a date change screen. Anybody have any idea of how to change the date on this vintage?
