  1. The pool is in Fort Lauderdale Florida. It is Gunite with Diamond Brite coating. The water can't spill over onto the decking; it spills over on the back side into an area that is all a rock path. I don't see how it could damage the coping unless you can tell me more. The coping tile is well sealed and adhered. In fact, by the attached spa, tiles are intended to stay below the water line. I would think all the water in the pool continues to be turned over through the filter port no matter if the level is higher than the port. But I'm not sure it would skim the stuff off floating on the top so well if the water is higher than the top of the port. I'll have to observe when the next pine needles get blown into the pool. Thanks all for helping me learn.
  2. Have a new pool and spa for the first time. The pool builder said there is a built in overflow but has a plug in that would need to be removed. He said he doesn't have it removed in his pool and lets rain water fill the pool to the brim so he left ours in.He said water costs money so makes it take longer until you might have to add. But I've noticed the pool company we have, if the water level goes up above the filter port, drains that excess water down so the level is not above the top of the port where the water runs in to go to the filter. Is there any problem with what the pool builder said? Why can't I let the water be clear to the brim of the pool and save money filling? No lawn to bother and the water still goes through the filter process. Thanks for your insights.
